MSNbot e-mailing members...
 

Hi i jsut noticed in "who's online", that one of the MSNbots tried to e-mail a member. Then it tried woth another, and so on. What is it doing? Is it only checking the e-mails, or what?

I'm a bit confused.

It's checking e-mails, 'cos in order to see a member's e-mail ya gotta go to e-mail member.

The MSNBot is merely trying to email members. It is presented with a Error Message when it does so. They cannot get your email address through this either, as member email addresses are not displayed.

So they can get your email for various spam purposes.

MSN do not send spam or harvest emails. Nor does the MSNbot have the capacity to write and send emails using vBulletin software; it's clever but it isn't THAT clever. ;)

The MSNbot is programmed to indiscriminately explore an entire website, therefore it follows every single link presented to it. If it comes across a link to the email member page, it will go there, and will appear on the "who's online" list as attempting to email that person, even if it has only reached an error message telling it that it has to be logged on in order to send email messages to members.

I didn't mean MSNbots specifically, mostly spambots. But thanks for the info anyway :).

Spambots would be mostly blocked from entering this site.

Theres now 12 Spiders online right now, bloody hell.

2 at my last count.

And there's 2 now. They're completely harmless, all they do is record entire website for search engines.

well aslong they don't spam you and build links for this site in their searchbar then thats ok

I have no fear of the spambots, because nothing in the entire universe could spam as bad as you. :p
