oh.... my... god....

alright, this just pisses me off

http://www.newsnet5.com/education/4305177/detail.html

One student, let me say again ONE student... is allergic to peanuts.... so the school bans Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches...

Ridiculous.

There are a number of solutions to this, but a school-wide ban? Isn't that taking it a bit too far?

This may not be wide-spread, but vegetarians at my school mainly eat PB&J- not only because it is yummy, but I am told peanuts have very good nutrition.

This is obviously gonna get the poor kid a beating, too.

besides, look at this http://www.bangornews.com/news/templates/?a=99521

:

Is smelling the odor of a food similar to inhaling food protein? The chemicals in food that cause odors are not proteins. These chemicals stimulate nerve endings in the nose, which the brain senses as odors. Therefore, odors are not capable of causing allergic reactions.
hmmmm.....

There are plenty of people who are allergic to grass. They can't breathe around it, and get a rash if they touch it. You don't see people banning grass, do you?

I think the school's gone off it's rocker.

And then it says

:

the ban will likely follow the student into junior high and high school.
The beating subject comes up again. High School.... bigger kids who play football. Won't that be fun?

For christs sake, put him in a bubble or something.

How about give him a little SARS mask?

Seriously, though, if your child is THAT fragile, why not homeschool? Parents getting stoned?

Don't get me wrong- I feel bad for the kid and all, but this is just going too far.

.....Banning PB&J, just because one studant allergic to it? The people at that school are weird. Why doesn't he just Stay away from it!

a flock of seagulls 03-23-2005 06:48 PM

i dont like PB&J, but seriously!
a schoolwide ban!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!

TheRaisin 03-23-2005 07:12 PM

People in Ohio, man. Nahmsayin'?

This is so ridiculous. Uhm. I don't know what else to add. Indignation and all that. Those people are stupid, and... that's about all I have to say.

Statikk HDM 03-23-2005 07:15 PM

This is pretty shocking to me considering I've known plenty of kids in school with allergies to nuts and there was no ban. Hell, I've shucked and eaten pistacios and peanuts right in front of the deprived. Arn'y allergies to nuts some of the most common allergies?

Havoc 03-23-2005 08:07 PM

Peanutbutter! Yum! :D.

Eh... schoolwide ban? Ban in the first place... eh, the kid could... just not eat it. Or is that just me O.o. Are this this complicated now that Im talking non-sence here?

In the 2005 I know, kids on my school who are allergic to milk products just stay away from the milk products... its a verry simple sollution really.
When we talk about this guy I emidiatly see some nerdy guy with huge ass glasses and zits all over his face becouse he just got pushed into some peanutbutter :P. I mean, where is the world coming to. If they would even think of doing that on my school, im gonna hijack the cafeteria and ONLY serv peanutbutter and jelly :P

Alcar 03-23-2005 10:12 PM

Actually, I'm not at all shocked by it. When I was in Primary School, Peanut Butter was outright banned because a student was deadly allergic to it. Being very young, he could have eaten or been offered peanut butter and not known the difference. I think it was a wise choice.

Imagine the parents of that child. They don't want to send themselves into a paranoid panic everytime they drop their child off at School. Besides, it's only peanut butter :p

Alcar...

Nut allergies can be quite serious and can maybe knock a person unconscious.. This sort of ban doesn't surprise me to be honest. Besides, I don't like peanut butter ;)

Fuzzle Guy 03-24-2005 12:16 AM

My Old School wasn't allowed Peanuts so this doesn't suprise me.

soulstice 03-24-2005 06:12 AM

My primary school banned peanut butter too......just think. I missed out on all of those happy peanut butter years for one allergic kid...Oh well.

AquaticAmbi 03-24-2005 08:54 AM

I can see why they would ban peanut butter in primary school, since there's always candy given out. A child allergic to it could make the mistake of accepting a piece of chocolate filled with it.

But for the higher levels of school? Bah, I say! The student would know by then to ask what's inside the food he's offered.

I would be outraged if someone tried to take away my precious PB&J sandwiches that I often take in my lunch! *Cuddles lunchbox*

Rich 03-24-2005 01:26 PM

Ridiculous, they'll be banning animals in case vegetarians accidentally eat them next.

MojoMan220 03-24-2005 01:36 PM

This doesn't even effect me, and yet I feel as though I've got a responsibility to kick his ass.

TheRaisin 03-24-2005 02:51 PM

How old does a kid have to be to know he's allergic to nuts? The very day that his parents learned their kid was allergic to them, they should have sat him down and said "If you eat nuts or anything with nuts in it, YOU'LL DIE! YOUR THROAT WILL SWELL SHUT AND YOU'LL SUFFOCATE AND DIE!" That would probably work.

ANN NEELY 03-24-2005 03:14 PM

ARGH! IDGITS!

[RANT=VeryLoudly]This is totally idiotic. Just because one kid is allergic to peanuts, a school-wide ban?! *Looks in Thesaurus* Absurd! Nonsensical! Preposterous! Egregious! Senseless! Inconsistent! Ridiculous! We use peanuts quite frequently in our science class, even when I know 20 students that are allergic to them (They aren't in the class, BTW)! Idiotic! Silly! Stupid! Asinine! Ill-judged! Ill-devised! Mal entendu! Irrational! Unphilosophical! :banghead:

Besides, it's only peanut butter

ONLY Peanut Butter?! *Twitch*[/RANT]
