A slog?

Well a few minutes ago, I was flipping through the Stranger's Wrath game manual, and I stumbled across this on the very first page:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/Ogopogo/slog.jpg

All the other creatures shown on that page were from Stranger's Wrath, but the only thing that wasn't in the game was that slog. It's not really a big deal, but I just wanted to share it with you.

T-nex 03-23-2005 02:24 PM

It looks like a slog to me...

sligster 03-23-2005 03:47 PM

yes, it is a slog. however, they are not in SW.

Even the "Slog" Handlers release Slegs- not Slogs.

Joe the Glukkon 03-23-2005 03:59 PM

I knew it was a slog, I just wanted to know what you think about the slog being in the game manual, and I know that slogs aren't in SW.

:fuzzle:

Chyros 03-23-2005 04:13 PM

I don't know exactly what opinion I should have, considering I don't have Sw, but to me it looks like it was imported straight from AO/AE into the manual; it has the exact same side-view presented in AO and AE, instead of being remodeled to the SW 3d-world... I think it's there just to complement to the Oddworld universe... this is particularly true if it's standing in front of a Slig, but I can't see it very clearly...

Abeguy 03-23-2005 04:16 PM

That is weird, very weird

Kimon 03-23-2005 04:39 PM

Slogs aren't in SW. There are Slog Handlers, but for some strange and much discussed reason they release Slegs.

EDIT: Wait... in your first post you said slogs were the only thing not in SW, and in this one you say you know they're in it. What opinion do you want, or is that a typo or something?

Typo. I mean't to say "aren't", not "are". I need to think more when I am typing a post. Hehe, editing to do...
Edit: And by opinion, I just meant comments, and what you think about the slog being in the game manual. More editing to do... *slaps forehead*

Kimon 03-23-2005 05:15 PM

Oh, okay, I know what you mean by opinions now that the typo is cleared up. But yeah, having a Slog in the maual is weird when it's not in the game.

sligster 03-23-2005 05:17 PM

The slog is being held by a Wolvark Slog Handler, btw.

To the right of the Slog, you can see the Wolvark (note the oversized slog/sleg- filled backpack) holding it on a leash.

So why the Slog is in there- it is probobly just because it's part of the Slog Handler appearence. Same thing in the Strat Guide.

Fuzzle Guy 03-24-2005 12:24 AM

Oddworld Inhabitants must have realised this before releasing this in Britain, because that image is not in the British manual, although I have found another Glitch.
On page 8 in the British manual, in the Basic Ammo section, all the pictures are correct, exept the Boom bat, he is upgraded, and in the Upgraded Ammo section, he is still upgraded, what's up with that?

Xavier 03-24-2005 11:02 AM

I guess the wolvarks are called slog keepers because they use to keep slogs, but because in that region there are only slegs they can only keep slegs, train them and trow them at you.

it would be to expencive to transport slogs over there while you have slegs.
my point is, they use what they can find

Fuzzle Guy 03-24-2005 10:56 PM

But they won't be able to find them if they all won't stop dissapearing :p

Dan Davis and Christopher Held from EA's Marketing department are responcible for the manual, not OWI. I did spot the anomolous Bada Boombat, though.

Somebody want to ask Alf why Sloghandlers carry Slegs?

Fuzzle Guy 03-25-2005 10:51 AM

They are called Sleg handlers, it's just the font it's in. I first made this mistake on EAgames.com, it looks like Slogs, but it's Slegs, go and see for yourself.

Xavier 03-25-2005 11:19 AM

In the prima official guide it's definatly "slog"...

Wil 03-26-2005 07:14 AM

It's ‘Slog’ in the game as well …

Fuzzle Guy 03-26-2005 10:12 PM

I read it as Sleg in the Game.

Cloverfield 03-29-2005 10:17 PM

If you look at the concept art picture, you will notice it is in similar style to the Native and Industrial art images from Munch's Oddysee. Remember that a lot of the characters in those pictures never ended up in the final game due to all of the changes. This image was probably created in the early stages of SW, and like many of these things, certain things are changed/removed/added to a game throughout it's development. Perhaps the original intention was to have Slogs instead of Slegs, but it was decided that having a more unique and new creature would be much more appropriate.

Abe Babe...

Biggy Bro Slig 03-29-2005 10:30 PM

On your 'current bounty' select, you will find the truth, of the Wolvark 'Sleg' handler.

Wil 03-30-2005 05:35 AM

biggy bro and Fuzzle Guy, I really don't know what's going on, but when I bag a Wolvark in the game, it shows up as a Sloghandler. It's all in capitals, too, so zero chance of a misreading.

Abe Babe, what you say makes sense, but I'm thinking OWI were perhaps planning on using both Slogs and Slegs, as Slegs were designed as far back as September 2002, when the X-Factor video was shot. That's plenty of time to change a name in the game, so I'm guessing they decided to streamline the game by just replacing Slogs with Slegs.

ODDFREEK 04-01-2005 01:52 PM

How come when you play strangers wrath the slegs jump into you and dissapear?

Xavier 04-02-2005 12:15 AM

I don't get it. Where does it say that? Because when I bag a Wolvark, it just shows a little thumbnail of what class he was.

Wil 04-04-2005 09:03 AM

You press the Select button. You get taken to a screen itemising the Outlaws/Wolvarks you've canned, a reminder of the tasks at hand, and how much Moolah you have. There's also an inventory panel you can access from there.

Read the topic, stingbee, we've already said that there is.

duveaux 04-14-2005 11:14 AM

What's the discussion still about? It is a slog, isn't it?
