is it just me?

or are other people kinda dissapointed with SW?
i expected some creatures from the old games in there. like scarbs, mudokons, atleast sligs.
but allas, the only creatures were only vykkers and fuzzles...
is anyone else dissapointed?

Leto 03-14-2005 08:28 PM

No, not at all. It wasn't intended to be the same as the other games, so an entirely new location was formed. Along with the species'. I am happy that they left out what they did... It worked. Sligs wouldn't work in a western, and Scrabs and Paramites- they are more 'native' than OWS was made out to be.

Ess all good...

Abe the legend 03-14-2005 10:42 PM

I'm not disappointed at all. Infact, I applaud them for making a game where you don't have to rescue a bunch of green guys and fuzzy guys to get the good ending. A new game-style calls for new characters, right? And besides, it's still kinda Natives VS Industrialists.

oddguy 03-14-2005 11:54 PM

Yes...it's just you.

Stranger's Wrath is a great game.

*adds to hit list* Mwahahahaha!

i realy like it and i think it is great to have diferent sets of games which were all odd!

Cloverfield 03-15-2005 01:01 AM

Like Super Munch said, it was set in a whole new location, so you wouldn't expect too many similar species. If you consider the size of a continent like Mudos, it's going to be expected that different areas have different species. Even countries on Earth have different creatures in different areas, and we aren't even as large as Oddworld is.

A bit of variety never hurts anyways. Plus it allows us to explore more of what is on Oddworld.

Abe Babe...

Mudokon Princess 03-15-2005 05:08 AM

No, i wasnt disappointed at all...i thought it was the best! Also it WAS intended to be set in a different location with new characters (species) and what not. Change can be good ^_^

Oddish 03-15-2005 09:10 AM

I'm not dissapointed at all. It would be silly having the same creatures in a different and far away location. OWI do things realisticly.

Fuzzleman54321 03-15-2005 09:14 AM

Actully I am a bit disaponnted! I wanted scrabs, paramites and sligs to be in it too!

MojoMan220 03-15-2005 12:02 PM

Hey, aren't you the guy that used invincibility at the start of the game?

Xavier 03-15-2005 12:05 PM

I'm not disapointed at all, it made us discover new aspects of Oddworld...
some of you need to realise that Oddworld isn't only about what happened and was showed in the quintology, there's a hell of a lot more!!!

Abeguy 03-15-2005 01:13 PM

haven't played it, but I'm finally saving up for an Xbox so I'll get it around August:D

CarboN 03-15-2005 01:21 PM

I haven't finished the game yet, but it has so far been really good.
I really love it. Some of the voice acting is a bit irrĂ*tating, though. I liked the doc vykker.:(
Sligs would have been nice.

Angalok 03-15-2005 02:10 PM

Seriously, it is just you, as I couldn't have been more satisfied with the game! I personally was worried before it came out, because of the cowboy theme and the chicken men and Abe and Munch going MIA. I went in with leery hopes, and was completely blown away at how great it was. I'm not even a fan of first person shooters, and it was one of the greatest game experiences I've ever had; definitely on par with Abe's Oddysee (which was the defining moment in my video gaming life). Who'd have thought Oddworld could throw out all their beloved, established characters, start with a clean slate, and still make the universe and cast just as likeable and compelling? It just concretely proves to me that the disappointment I felt after Munch's Oddysee was in no way the Inhabitants' fault, but that of Microsoft's deadline. Whether the next Oddworld game is Abe or the Stranger, I'll be perfectly happy!

What does that have to do with anything? I did that too. Sure, I played the first game without cheats, but I played the game again with them on.

Lay off of us cheaters, or we'll team up and get you with the cheat mode on. :p
(Disclaimer: No offence intended)

I liked it , and then I felt like I was missing the point of having this be Oddworld, when there are bats, bees, skunks and chickens around. That bothered me.

Heh, this from the guy with a bat woman for a fan character. :D

I love using cheats myself... after I've beaten the game. I was just pointing out that he may have been less disappointed if he had played through properly.

Xavier 03-16-2005 05:13 AM

yep taking your time to play the game let you discover some sides of the game and let you see things you would have rushed over...

Nate 03-16-2005 04:01 PM

Disclaimer: I haven't actually finished it yet due to the homework thing.

I wasn't disappointed at all. It looks great and feels great, despite the fact that I'm crap at FPSs.

My one objection is that Lorne hyped it WAY too much. It didn't destroy my vibe of the game because I realised early on not to take him too seriously. The fact is that characters don't remember you for long, you can't have intelligent conversations and Clakkers don't seem to have their own lives - they're just wandering around at random or on paths.

But the game didn't need any of those things; they would have been superfluous if they were added. My problem is only that Lorne did a Peter Molyneaux and promised things that didn't exist.

Xavier 03-17-2005 05:24 AM

hmm when I played trough the game I had that impression of life he was talking about, that's all what matters to me

you can't blame Lorne to hype the game... he was the only one to do so (looks at EA).
and what he said wasn't totally wrong.

Nate 03-21-2005 04:25 PM

Nothing wrong with hyping, as long as you're careful. Look at Fable.

Xavier 03-22-2005 08:24 AM

Fable... it sold very well, wasn't that the point?

Fuzzle Guy 03-22-2005 08:28 AM

Well a few things that wouldn't normally be in Oddworld slipped up, things that would normally be in EA came along, they were a bit dissapointed, but yes, I would have prefered Sligs over Wolvarks. And I didn't really see the need for Slegs, why the hell couldn't it have just been kept as Slogs?

You know, I actually agree with you there. When I heard of this game, I was expecting to hit Clakkerz around and then the next town over they would remember what you did to the past town and you'd have a "rep" which was clearly not implimented in the game. I mean, sure, hype the game up, but I kinda wish he didn't just straight out lie to us about some things. That's just wrong, IMO.

I still think it's one of the best games of all time, though. I just wish that promises were kept is all. It seems like you're getting cheated otherwise.

Also, the Clakkerz didn't have nearly as many phrases as promised. I mean, I almost went insane at how many times certain phrases were said and in their corresponding order. For example:

*I hit a Clakker*
Clakker: Now come on!
Other Clakker: Now why'd you have to do that?
Other Clakker: Why'd you have to be such a pecker head?

and it would go on and on every time you hit one. It made me swear off Clakker-bashing for a little bit, before I caved in to the fun-ness of it. It would have been funny if they said some things like: "Um, and you're hitting me... Why again, exactly?" or "You know, this is quickly becoming a habit of yours, I've noticed" and tons others I could have recorded in one night that he had 3 years to do.

I am definately disapointed becuse I thought that sligs were everywhere in oddworld

Oddish 03-30-2005 11:31 AM

Welcome to a more realistic world, where you won' find the same speices everywhere. You see pandas are not everywhere, right?

Hahahahahahaha, too funny.

I was hyping up Stranger when I first saw it on the Discovery Channel. I think it is a fantastic game and met my expectations. The ending cutscene rocks.

Although I'm kicking myself becuase I just wish Stranger was marketed a little early and better. (No commericial?!) The game might of changed action gaming as we know it.

stingbee 03-30-2005 11:55 AM

that is true you don't find panda's everywhere but this is oddworld were talking about right

Oddish 03-30-2005 11:56 AM

Well oddworld is based on real life, like Earths.

a flock of seagulls 03-30-2005 01:49 PM

earthS?
as in two or more earths?
where is this other earth, i want to meet my other me.
i just realized how wierd it looks when you spell earth....
0.o

Oddish 03-30-2005 02:08 PM

It's not another "earth", it's like earth.

Well I'm trying that oddworld is quite realistic when it comes to inhabitants and their habitats. And oddworld is a huge place, and who knows how many Slig queens there in oddworld, and you can't have sligs in every town, place village, facilities. So what if it's fantasy, it's not a dreamworld where anything is possible.
