Stranger, Evil?

Stranger, is the good guy in our and the Clakkers opinion, but is he realy as much of a hero as we think he is?
For:

• Stranger catches Bounties for money, and saves the Clakkers from hell by bountying them.
• Stranger helps the natives throughout the game.

Against:

• Strangers Doc, is a Vykker, and this Vykker most probably gets his medicines ect. from Vykkers Labs. What do Vykkers Test on?
• Stranger is on the team of Clakkers, and Clakkers use Industrialised materials to live a normal life.
• If you feel like it, Stranger can beat the hell out of the Clakkers, which makes him evil to the Clakkers
• He uses BoomBats as Live ammo to keep himself alive, but surely, when the BoomBats blow up, the bats must die too...

What do you think...

I am not sure if he is bad? Afterall he is good in the eyes of the Clakkers and us, but using industrial civilization, this makes them bad to the characters we loved in the previous games: Abe Munch.

It's called survival FG. He uses boombats as bombs, we use dead animals as fertilizers, whats the difference? And how do we get our medicine? Animal testing. Do you think that some guy, will volunteer to have a new medicine tested on him? And clakkerz need machinery to survive. They do not use it for evil, for without the technology, they would die. They cannot swim, therefore fishing is a big nono, so why bother with fishing, when you can pick up fish in a net, when on a boat? What would you rather protected you from outlaws? A wooden tower and a few tiny walls, or a big, thick steel, wall? And yes, we would be evil. Technically, there is no ''good'', in Oddworld, if being evil is what you've listed. Grubbs catch fish, killing an animal isn't it? Live ammo, eats Wolvarks, that's killing too.

My Family does not use medicines that have been animal tested, we don't use animals as fertilises

It's the Quarmer meter your looking for, and there isn't realy a side of good, evil, ect. It's what they do that counts.

There is no more things as spoilers right now, FG, the game has been out for a week. Enough time to complete it. It's like telling people the end of Munch's oddysee, and then saying, ''That's a spoiler!!'', because some people don't have X-Boxes, or the game. In other words, there is no spoilers, till the next Oddworld.

First of All Dipstikk, that was Cyber-Slig, not Alpha, secondly, I have the game, but I also have a life, and do not sit there 24/7 infront of an Xbox, unlike Mindless 12 year olds with 935 posts with really gay sigs.

Cyber-Slig and Dipstikk, only admins and mod will decide when the Stranger will be old enough to be "spoiler free" but now you still have to post spoilers in the spoiler forums.

Woah, someone's wearing their big pants today. First of all, Ferril, I mistook CyberSlig for Alpha. So sue me, I'm tired. (the "Ferril" thing was a joke.)

Secondly, I don't know what you're crying about. You have the game. People have said that Stranger was a Steef. It's out in the open. Play through the game. I don't care how far people are in the game, this bawling about spoilers being posted needs to stop because it's shipped to it's destinations. It's time to stop walking around..on or eggshells (whatever the expression is) and be able to talk freely about the game.

Now if the mods have a problem with T-Nex's post, they can move yet another topic to the spoiler forum, or they could leave it here. I don't know, not my depatrment. But I agree with CyberBuddy 3000, crying about spoilers being posted is like if someone posts about the end of MO and people whine because they don't have it or an x-box.

You have to admit, reading "OMFG U MEENIE SPOILRZ" is reeeeeally annoying. ;)

What a lovely discussion we've got going here! So very adult.

As for the actual topic, I would say that the Stranger is good by his own definition. If you read the instruction manual's prologue, it states that the Stranger has always captured Outlaws for his own personal satisfaction, and only focused on the Moolah when he needed it for the impending operation. He defends the Clakkers and the Grubbs alike from violent forces, and I'd say defending the weak has always been a staple of goodness. He's a vigilante; he has his own sense of right and wrong, and disregards the government-imposed ones. Perhaps he's more focused on protecting number one than some heroes, but he still does the right thing when it comes down to it.

As for whether using the live ammo is evil, it was my impression that the critters willingly allowed themselves to be used as ammo. Sure they get zapped and captured at the beginning, but those Boombats could always fly off the top of the crossbow and escape, no? I think the Stranger has kind of a zen relationship with nature and can communicate with the live ammo. The Boombats are naturally explosive due to their diet, so I'm sure their livespan was about up as it is. After all, the instruction book states that the Riot Slugs give their lives willingly, and I'm sure that applies for the Boombats as well.

As for whether using animal tested products makes you inherently evil, I'd say that's a bit of a stretch. I mean, you can try to avoid those products whenever possible, but I dare say it's impossible to be good by that definition in today's market. As for the Stranger, I doubt he knows what they do at Vykker Labs, he's never been there and I don't think they advertise their sadism. He just saw a sign that said Doc's Office, and he needs an operation; what choice did he have?

Some official source their live-span was realy short anyway, and they were glad to help out...

On the topic. What about Stranger's joy in capturing these bounties? On the other side of the coin, he seems to enjoy fighting for good.
The word "evil" is a very loose term and veries from person to person. All I'm saying is that Abe's ideals of "evil" might differ from Stranger's. The Glukkons and Outlaws might see Abe and Stranger as "evil" as well, seeing as how they're trying to shut them down.

I've stopped, so basically they are like Hamsters, dying early? Makes sense, but aren't most of them too stupid to know that they'll be fired from a crossbow? Only the Chippunk talks, and even it, doesn't plead for it's life. And I don't think they all die. For example, Stingbees stay on the creature, so they will only be trapped on them. And fuzzles, chew at the enemy, they don't die in anyway. Thudslugs hard exterior, would keep them alive, so really, the only ammo that does die, is boombats.

Actually, Abe would be the most evil creature ever, it's only what he fights for that makes him good. Possessing a creature, would be terrifying, and embarressing for it, it turns on it's former allies, then it knows, what's at the end of the road. It goes boom. They know, they're already dead after possession.

Minor Spoilers Ahead!!

I don't think Stranger is either good OR evil. He's a selfish persone only doing stuff for his own needs. He hunts bounty's to get money for HIS operation. He leaves the clakkers alone cuz without them HE couldn't get bounty's for moolah. He helps the natives defend their villages becouse HE needs them to help HIM fight Sekto and fix his boat. He goes to fight Sekto becouse if he doesn't Sekto will hunt him down, so that also is in his own interest.
Its becouse the outlaws want revenge on Stranger for capturing that first guy that they hate him so much. Otherwise, they might just offer him money to do their dirty work in the first place and he would gladly accept it. So my view: Stranger is a selfish persone, nor good, nor evil.

Yeah, he doing that for the good, to let the mudokons be free.

Stranger doesn't help the clakkers, I think... He bags the bounties for moolah.

Stranger is good or evil, depending on how the player decides to accomplish the game.

Why, you can be a bona-fide boy scout:
-Bring 'em in alive.
-Clackerz have feelings too!
-...And money, which is rightfully theirs.

Or an insideous puppy kicker:
-Did someone say, "Meat grinders?"
-Clackerz make great airbags.
-Why yes officer, I do have my security guard impersonator license.
