Incredible Disappearing Slegs

Note: I don't think this post counts as a spoiler as it reveals nothing about the plot. Nonetheless, if you don't want to know anything at all about the game, do not read ahead.

I've found the slegs to be thoroughly weird creatures. So weird, in fact, that I suspect that I may have found a bug in the game. So please tell me if you get the same thing.

Every time a sleg attacks me, it jumps up, embeds itself in Stranger's back and then fades away. Stranger takes a small hit in lifeforce but not much.

Is this just me or am I missing a deeper meaning here?

scrabinator 03-06-2005 09:58 PM

No, the same thing happens to me too. I think it's supposed to happen so you don't get bombarded with slegs or something...

panuru 03-07-2005 12:33 AM

Happened to me too. I found it odd as well... [no pun intended]. I think it would've been more fun to be bombarded with Slegs.

Alcar 03-07-2005 04:21 AM

Same here. But I've even observed a Sleg jumping at me, and just disappearing without causing any damage. I thought it weird at first, and still do... :p

Alcar...

It happend to me, It's like, when you shoot an outlaw dead, and leave it there and it fades away too!

OANST 03-07-2005 08:26 AM

Same here. I was a little irritated by it, actually.

Eh... that is in fact part of the game... Dead outlaws disapear after a while if you don't bounty them. Exept for the big bosses ofcourse.

Esus 03-07-2005 09:31 AM

it really freaked me out at first because I was spinning in circles looking for a sleg that had just attacked me.

Nate 03-07-2005 04:17 PM

I was expecting to get something like the slogs, they run up and maul you until you're dead. That's why I was standing a distance away and picking them off before I approached. But this way they're no challenge at all. Let one commit suicide by jumping into your back and then shake off the damage before the next arrives.

Biggy Bro Slig 03-07-2005 11:15 PM

Yeah, me & Fuzzle guy got that aswell.
Me and FG make a great team playing it, with my color blindness to find hidden things, and FG's amazing tactics!

The Marching Mudokon 03-08-2005 01:24 AM

That's very strange (no pun intended).

Yep. I'm actually getting quite sick of games where enemies disappear. Even after they're dead. It pulls me out of the life of the game world.

At least in Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus the characters dissipated or blew up or something. We all know OWI can be more creative while getting rid of useless corpses.

ConkerTribe 03-08-2005 05:47 AM

Yes, I too found that quite annoying. Either give us more time to play with the corpses or unlimited time. It's not like it would hurt anything. Give it some ragdoll physics while your at it. I mean, nothing's more satisfying than knocking a downed foe into some blades or some water or something. Why have them disappear like that?

Angalok 03-08-2005 09:39 AM

I actually think the Stranger's Wrath fade-away is a rather elegant solution. If you watch the enemy corpse, a red spot appears on them and then expands until they sort of burn away. It looked kind of like a weird decomposition. I'll agree, though, that the Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus corpse removal was more realistic; they should have stuck with the body shrinking, blackening, and steaming into nothingness (strong bacteria on Oddworld!).

As for the Slegs, I think they're sort of a kamikaze creature. They run up, bite, and then die; I suppose they're like bees who die after stinging.

Oddish 03-08-2005 10:01 AM

I like the steaming, shrinking, smoking deaths, it's cute, and I havn't seen anything like it.

Some times it's life savour, if your out of ammonition, you don't have to shoot all of then again. Mabey the slegs jump in you mouth.:p

Dude, don't spoil surprises like that!

Sorry Max, I forgot.

yeah it wasnt realy good of OWI to let the slegs disapear...
but it is fun through by just keeping to avoid them:p

How does your colour blindness help you find hidden things?

Is it just me or do slegs have two viewing cones in the radar? Do each of their eyes operate independantly?

sligster 03-08-2005 04:49 PM

I think it's intended. Always happens.

I <3 slegs. i go into first person and see how many I can "dance" around while trying to knock em into fans. great fun it is :)

Wil 03-11-2005 11:52 AM

I've deleted the last few posts. Slegs aren't a major surprise in the game, but the amazingness you were talking about is a supreme thing to discover late in the game.

Xavier 03-12-2005 01:05 AM

yes, you are right... I didn't realise :p

Nate 03-14-2005 04:24 PM

Ooooh... Amazingness... Something to look forward to then. Damn that homework for holding me back from my Xbox!

Still, what's the general vibe from the populous; are the disappearing slegs a bug or design feature?

I'm pretty sure it's a feature
