2 Q's in 1 thread

1: Is Odd like Oddworld's "God?"

2: After learning the truth about OW's wildlife, is Abe like some Vegan hippy?

Mudokon Princess 03-06-2005 01:22 PM

1. Yes I do believe that Odd is Oddworld's god.

2. He mite be, I have no clue on that one

Dipstikk 03-06-2005 02:09 PM

1. I think it's a replacement word for God.
2. Yeah, probably. I think we can compare the natives in all of the games to hippies.

I always thought that the Odd was more like the Force, not a conscious deity per se but rather an omnipresent aether.

Abe16 03-06-2005 05:06 PM

I always took Odd as a God for oddworld.

Nate 03-06-2005 05:33 PM

Oh, yeah, clearly Odd stands in for God, but I was thinking in terms of what 'Odd' actually is.

Xavier 03-09-2005 02:15 AM

we don't realy know if there is a supreme being on oddworld like our "god".
there are ceveral divnities on oddworld tough

Nate 03-09-2005 03:42 PM

... Muds have worshipped powerful wildlife creatures but I don't know if they actually regard them as gods, or just species to be treated with reverence.

Xavier 03-10-2005 05:50 AM

They have the shrykull the see as a half god.
and there was a mention of a divinity in a nitroduction text for Hand of Odd

“Thank the Odd!” uttered by a thirsty Mudokon seems to suggest that, yes, Odd is some kind of Oddworld parody of God. However, the extended version, “Great Mother Odd”, sheds more light on its nature.

The Shaman screaches “Mother of Odd”. I don't know whether that's the mother of the god Odd, as a parody of “Mother of Jesus”, or whether it's Odd itself, the mother of all things that are odd.

Grubbs are kinds of animists, believing that nature has spirits, just like the Native Americans believed. They also believe in the Great Spirit, which could be the Grubb version of the Mudokons' Great Mother Odd.

Xavier 03-12-2005 01:09 AM

yeah, that's a point, not all the creatures have the same religions and beliefs on oddworld (like on earth)...

like Glukkons, they only believe in their god called Moolah ;)

Wil 03-12-2005 10:08 AM

Oh, I forgot to mention: Mudokons hunt, and Abe was at one point going to have been a fishermud. I don't think he's vegan.

Xavier 03-13-2005 12:49 AM

plus he apparently like some scrab cakes and paramites pies too...

mudling 03-13-2005 12:55 AM

yes but it was meant to show how the modokun slaves were blinded from real life and that he was about to become his favourite food. the modukons eat things but are consious on the amounts they ate or used. this made soulstorm brew a mager problem.

The idea of Odd as a deity is giving me an artistic brainstorm....
