Why Teach Kids That The World Is A Happy Place

Why bother with little kid shows and morning tv all kids end up finding out that the world is a terrble place with death and rape and all kinds of bad things.

Abe16 03-01-2005 08:17 PM

i know! dont they know that the world can be cruel!

Al the Glukkon 03-01-2005 08:20 PM

That would not be the right thing to do according to today's standards. I would also not want to have to tell my children to not rape or murder the other kids while playing cops and robbers.

Leto 03-01-2005 08:53 PM

Yes, I agree, though I have no children. I mean, what else can children watch? Law And Order? Kiddie shows are there for a reason, as horrible and hated by the public they are. Well, I hate them. But really, they don't have much else to cling on to. Let them have their idiotic fun while they can...

Havoc 03-01-2005 10:22 PM

YEa, what els you want to tell your kids?

"The world is in war and your going to be killed if you don't watch your step."

Alcar 03-01-2005 10:39 PM

If I were to have children, I'd certainly tell them that the world is happy place. Which it is. While there may be rape, murder, and other bad things, they are the unfortunate facts of life. But by far, the good things in life outweigh the bad.

I'd want to give my child the best possible childhood. And by burdening children with the prospect of unhappiness and suffering, you enivitably send them down that path.

there is cruelty in the world.

but a childhood is carefree. as it shoud be. there is an innocence when kids are young when social status, race, and popularity don't matter. all that does matter is having fun.

that's why i like little kids. the most important thing is fun. then they grow up and they're flawed by trying to be cool or unique. their parents might be bigots and so that rubs off on them.

a childhood is pure in the strongest sense of the word, and should not be burdened by the world's problems.

Oddish 03-02-2005 11:40 AM

I agree with those guys.

Aslo it's arttractive to the children, and it shows how they should be like, Not saying the should do exactly the same, but positive things. Kids should the know how wounderful the world is, and not get involed in the horrble things.

Esus 03-02-2005 12:26 PM

I bother with them because they are entertaining. Why? Why do you bother with them?

Dark Oddworld 03-02-2005 04:27 PM

I still think teaching kids with friendly creatures like barny and thoughs crapy kid shows is a bad idea

Abe16 03-02-2005 04:34 PM

I was just kiddin what i said above, i think that telling kids that the world is crappy and dirty is wrong. If I had any kids, I let them watch their shows. And when their 20, i'll boot'em out the door.

sligster 03-02-2005 04:43 PM

I would rather tell my kid the truth. He/she will find out the truth sooner or later, and when they do, they'll just call you a liar and won't trust you with anything.

Cold NRG 03-02-2005 05:07 PM

Generally, the kids raised in a positive way are the ones who don't follow that path. So in essence that's the only way rape and murder could look bad in comparison.

Like the saying goes: Without good there can be no evil.

and without evil, there can be no good.

Since when is the World a bad place to live? From what I have lived most people are happy and friendly. Just because a small percentage of people might do something wrong doesn't mean the rest of the world is out to get them. And kids only get one childhood. Would you rather have your kids living at home being too scared to go out of the house because a Terrorist might be outside waiting to blow them up? I wouldn't. I would like to tell them that the World is a great place to live.

Yes I may give them Warnings about not going into Stranger's Cars and other stuff but I wouldn't tell them all of the gory details about what might happen to them because them they would just be running scared.

thatbluebastard 03-05-2005 12:35 PM

i also think you take a lot of things in this world for granted.

maybe it's because you live in wisconson, i don't know.

In your prepackaged life, yes. In the life of an average Irani women, not so much.

Shinjara 03-05-2005 01:15 PM

I really do believe that children should be allowed to be "naive" (correct word to use?) about the world through their childhood. They are too young to understand what is going on, it takes children quite a while to comprehend life & death.

Childhood should be kept as a precious memory as best as it can. Although, personal circumstances can ruin that e.g Living in Iraq at present etc..

I'd be inclined to agree with this. Children are not mentally equipped to deal with the emotional trauma and unfortunate reality of the modern world anyway, so why offer it to them? Let them live in their happy world, who are we to take that away from them? At least they will have something good to look back on.

Wolfpac 03-05-2005 01:30 PM

But if you look at the Children in Iraq then they are just as happy as what someone living in the United States is. They still have innocents about them that they should treasure. As and adult living in Iraq you would know about all of the terrors going around you, but a child should not be subjected to a Political War. Teach your kids to play Football and play games; don't bring them into a life that can be much worse than what it could be. For the first few years of their lives, just let kids be kids. Don't tech them to hate because it will just breed violence.

and without evil, there can be no good.

"So it must be good to be evil sometimes"

I don't think these shows really teach kids that the world is a happy place, more about being a good person eg. Sharing and that crap.
With that said they don't teach kids the world is a bad place either.
I say just leave it how it is, just come up with some better characters.

Alcar 03-07-2005 04:52 AM

Ultimately, it is up to the parents or mentors. It is on their heads how they treat their children. Their behaviour is often a reflection of how good / bad their upbringing was.

That theory corollates to this one: Why live, you'll just die anyway.

There's plenty of stuff to do between their blissful years of ignorance and when they find out the truth. Why make someone miserable from the start? Jesus, just let them live through childhood.

Dark Oddworld 03-07-2005 08:44 PM

I've been asking a few kids around school and they all agree with me that the kids souldn't be told that the world is a nice place. Living in Wisconson must mean something with teaching kids that the world is a nice place.
