Alpha 02-27-2005 02:49 PM

I've played em all. Why?.

AWWW 02-27-2005 07:32 PM

Yeah I play love playing RPGs too, but not as much as I used to, there not as much free time in my week any more to be able to play all the games have, with RPGs taking from 30 to 50 hrs to complete, its better to not play them.

The ones that I really enjoyed:
Final Fantasy VII (first major RPG I played)
FFVIII-FFX
Grandia I and II
Pokemon (hey its one real addictive RPG, forget all the spin off stuff, the games were some of the best games on the Game Boy.)
Tales Of Symphonia (playing at the moment)

Does not look like much RPG, but those games alone took around 1000hrs of my life (replayed a few of them)

Dark Oddworld 02-27-2005 07:37 PM

I hate how everyone flames RPG just because they take a long time to beat and because of the "run over hit the enemy and walk back" thing. I also forgot to menton the .hack games apart from Final Fantasy its one of my biggest fav's .

Alpha 02-28-2005 02:24 AM

The only RPG attack system that looked crap are the one's where a character would take a step forward and magicly attack the enemy, that was stupid.

Abe's son 02-28-2005 01:12 PM

I hate Finaly Fantasy... I like along the lines of an RPG in the sense of the original Dues Ex... were you have weapons, the ability to upgrade them and a real time combat system. Fallout and Fallot II are another of my favorites. Futuristic RP's and real time combat are musts for me. Unfortunatly there arn't many like that... or at least as good as Dues Ex.

Esus 02-28-2005 01:26 PM

Zelda can be quite good, though I've only played the N64 ones. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is possibily my favourite game of all time, for a vast number of reasons which I won't go through at the moment. This is also the only game I've completed and unlocked/opened/found every single thing I can think of - that was years ago.
I also played and completed (though not fully, like MM) Ocarina of Time. It was very enjoyable. Not on par with MM though. :p
I like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. I never liked the original for some reason, it seemed pretty weak. Again, I compelted the Sith Lords. I'm not keen on the strategy to defeat a lot of opponents, which is essentially running away from them, turning, zapping/shooting, and running away; if hit, running behind aptly placed columns so the enemy literally forgets they are fighting you, which gives you unlimited time to heal, regain the force, plan out attacks and things. Even on the final boss for the game. Basically, better combat all together would be nice.
I enjoyed Morrowind for all I played of it, which, in terms of percentage, was possibly minute but I eventually became bored of the game and it's many faults.
I completed Fable, and thought it was rather entertaining, I honestly cannot play it anymore without driving myself mad. I'm also not keen on the possible exploits in the game; both to get an uber character after the arena and the house/trophy/money trick.
Pokémon was quite fun for what I played of it, but I can barely remember any of it - it was years ago and only the original Red version.

I've never dipped into Final Fantasy, and I can't think of any other RPG I have played.

T-nex 02-28-2005 01:49 PM

I llike Morrowind very much, cuz it's planned very good. It also has a freedom that no other game has.

Dark Oddworld 02-28-2005 01:58 PM

Zelda MM is also one of my favoret games. I hate the way everyone hated it so much just because it didn't live up to OOT. i didn't even like it as much MM. Donkey kong 64, Zelda, Oddworld, spyro the dragon and crash bandicoot were the games that made me start playing more of them I wouldn't even be playing games if it hadn't been for them.

I also played morrowind but I didn't like the freedom because I had no clue where to go. I play it some times but I stop for a while because the game play gets boring and the battle system is complet crap. It was fun but had to many falts.

Leto 02-28-2005 09:15 PM

The first person RPGS are indeed the best eavh11!2 lol lol. Deus Ex 1 or 2, both great games. Final Fantasy flopped after FFVIII. They all sucked after 8.

Morrowind, Morrowind! I have had at least 1500+ hours over the past year with it, and monthly breaks, sometimes. And now- I'm still finding new things. The Elder Scrolls is definatley one of the best game series ever made. I can't wait for TES:IV Oblivion! Ill have to update my PC, again, for it though. Firstly, for DooM³, and now, for TES:IV. Damn. I aint bargaining with it being on XboxNext.

Kingdom Hearts. Take out the Disney bit- it would be the best Square-soft game evah. Well, it is the best one. *Cough*

Fable. Who can say no to Fable? If you do, very sad indeed...

:

I've played em all. Why?.

What do you mean by this? You have played every single RPG in existence..? Ahuh.

:

I also played morrowind but I didn't like the freedom because I had no clue where to go. I play it some times but I stop for a while because the game play gets boring and the battle system is complet crap. It was fun but had to many falts.

There is no pleasing some people! You get all into the battle, instead of watching you press the 'fight' button, then watch you character run up and attack! Well, I guess people like the lazy option... I much prefer realtime battles, though. They have a sense of, say, realism and fear of death.

Then again, many people arent liking the real times... Bah. Meh. Who doth care? I'm shutting up now.

Dark Oddworld 03-01-2005 07:13 AM

I like real time battle too but the constant missing the enemy thing in morrowind is just frustrating

Alpha 03-01-2005 12:16 PM

SM: I meant all the games listed above and did you think 8th sucked or just those after?.

Shinjara 03-01-2005 12:57 PM

I play RPGs, not so much recently though.

Favourites:

Final Fantasy 6,7,8,10-2.
Breath of Fire IV
Grandia 1
Oddworld: Abes Oddysee & Abe's Exoddus.

Cyber-Slig 03-01-2005 02:24 PM

Just got TES:Morrowind GOTY . I love it. Not keen on first person but I love the 3rd. I liked FFX. Cos of the Aeons. FFX-2 was a big dissapoint though.

Dark Oddworld 03-01-2005 02:51 PM

Some things were bad in FFX-2 but I still liked most of it

Cloverfield 03-01-2005 04:53 PM

:fuzblink: Oddworld isn't a RPG.

Well as the regulars on here know, I am a Final Fantasy addict. Along with Oddworld it is my favorite game series of all time. Although my favorite game of the series always has, and always will be Final Fantasy VII. Can someone say Sephiroth ... *dreams* But his presence aside, the game is what got me into the series, and I believe that it has the best storyline and gameplay out of the series. Although FFX is my second favorite.

FFX-2 was good, the battle system was fun. But the storyline was kind of lacking and I hated how they changed Yuna into a Rikku wannabe. FF12 has a weird battle system though... it really takes some getting used to. And yes, I have played demo levels from FF12. *brags*

From the non-FF RPGs, my favorites are Vagrant Story [good battle system but most of all the exploration is second to none] and Kingdom Hearts [yes, my Sephiroth is in it also]. Although I generally play any Square-Enix RPG, but haven't had too much time to play any for a while now.

On the Xbox, Morrowind and Enclave are good. Although somewhat different styles in RPG than I usually play. I wouldn't mind playing Fable one day, I have heard a lot of good things about it, although it's supposed to be somewhat short for a RPG.

About the people who don't like RPGs because of their length. I love a long game. Especially when it's a game I enjoy. I actually feel ripped off if I buy a game and it is too short. Although I don't think I would ever play a MMORPG, not even FFXI, because I really don't have time to play a game that "never ends" and I have heard too many people get addicted to those things.

Yes, yes, yes they do. Do. *Eye Twitch* I play far too much Morrowind, it aint healthy. And at my fathers work, everyone stays afterhours to play World Of Warcraft. Like, 3-5 hours after work hours. Yeouch.

Alpha, what I meant was that Final Fantasy 4 through 8 were superb, and when FF9 hit shelves, I say the game series should have stopped. After 8 (Which was the best FF in my opinion), it all flopped. And FFX-2 sucked, that goes without saying. Really, really bad.

Oddworld is most definatley not an RPG.

Monkey Island 1 and 2, if they are RPGs (Well, point 'n click RPGs), sure as hell ruled. Majorly kicked anus. I love those ol' point 'n click games. Monkey Island especially, though.

Dark Oddworld 03-02-2005 09:12 AM

Im not going to play FF 11 or 12 because 11 doesn't even look like a final fantasy game and 12 has a new battle system that I don't like (It looks like the battle system from .hack but the battle system in .hack got old real fast and I get a bit frustrated with it and the bad camra angles).

Fuzzles! 03-03-2005 07:23 AM

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I and II
Morrowind
Fable
PSO Online
D&D Heroes
Balder's Gate I and II (debeatable as an RPG though)

Hobo 03-03-2005 07:28 AM

Balder's Gate I and II (debeatable as an RPG though)

I think thats the most RPG of all of them, as you are playing the role of your own character, and you can shape your own world more than the others.

Anyway Fallout 1 & 2 and Planescape Torment beat EVERYTHING else. HAnds down. And up. And slightly to the left.

Hmm perhaps you are right...lol. Every played PSO online (episode II) for Xbox?

Silversnow 03-05-2005 02:31 PM

I adore RPG's. My favorites are:
Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Icewind Dale 1 & 2
Arcanum: Of steamworks and magick obscura
Grandia

Godlesswanderer 03-05-2005 05:29 PM

Technically, unless you get into specifics, all games are RPGs. In everygame you play some kind of role.

:

Yeah, I completed it in just under 15 hours. Which is extremely short compared to other RPGs. Also, after you complete the main story it just gets boring.

MojoMan220 03-05-2005 05:47 PM

My favorite RPG of all time was FFVIII, it had me immersed from start to finish. Morrowind consumed an entire summer (thank god it was summer, or I would have flunked), It was so gigantic! Right now I am on Fable, but I really haven't been interested in playing since my first weekend with the game. I really hate it when I loose interest; I still haven't finished Prince of Persia, Deus Ex 2, Vice City, or Ninja Gaiden, and those are great games.

webmaster_dragon 03-05-2005 06:14 PM

well unfortinatly I hated FFVIII but I loved the first 7 games, and tactics... I also like the pokemon games, they ARE fun (only the GBA ones) and yes evory think elts pokemon suxxx...

Cloverfield 03-05-2005 08:48 PM

Pokemon as a "game" ain't that bad [although a bit on the lame storyline side as opposed to stuff like FF and that]. Pokemon as a cash cow, money making, shove everything into your face franchise... that is what sucks.

:

Ack! 15 hours. That's lame for a RPG. You need to get at least a good 50 hours in. Although that's kind of along the lines to what I heard. Add another 5 hours on for me though as I'm a slow game player. Oh well, maybe by the time I go to the US this year I'll find it selling cheap second hand. I won't feel so ripped off then.

I'm playing with Knights of The Old Republic these days, just arrived to Tatooine. And RuneScape is pretty good too. It's simple but enjoyable. I also played Wizardry 8 earlier, another great RPG.

Loup Garou 03-06-2005 04:40 AM

I'm a RPG-fan as well, and my favourites are:
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics (not sure if it's a RPG..!!)
Diablo 2+Exp. Pack
Icewind Dale 1+2
Baldur's Gate 2+Exp. Pack
And no I haven't tried Final Fantasy...yet. By the way how many Final Fantasy is there?

Cyber-Slig 03-06-2005 04:53 AM

You play Diablo expansion, Loup? Great! What's your nick on it.
