Something I just don't understand.

Okay, I've been a fan of all of the Oddworld games. Admittedly, I haven't taken the time to remember all of the character/enemy names but have beaten most of the games out there. But after playing Stranger there is something I just don't understand...

Why are they called Sloghandlers when they're clearly releasing Slegs.

Slegs = horns (bores) coming from mouth
Slogs = sharp teeth like slegs, but no bores

There doesn't seem to be a single slog in this game, yet there are Sloghandlers.

I was wondering that too, It's weird!

Could be a geographic thing, this is obviously a differnt part of ODDWORLD.

Maybe the folks around these parts have different names for the same beasts,
like say, woodchuck and groundhog.
Just a guess.

a sleg could be a specific breed, with slog being the general overall term.

such that a sleg is a species term and slog is possibly a genus or even family.

much like a Great Dane is a dog, denoted to the Canis familiaris[domesticated dogs] genus species, but at the same time, being a very specific breed within that territory.

It's still Mudos, so I doubt that would be the difference. But the species thing is a good thought.

I think it's an error on OWI's part. There are promotional images for the game that clearly show that Sloghandlers have Slogs! For the record, though, Slegs are a different species from Slogs, like coyotes are to domestic canines.

i haven't played Stranger's Wrath, so i don't have a clue. i was just making a guess.

does it say that in the game, though?

My thoughts exactly. There's even Slogs on the inside front cover.

It could work, you live in westren New York ,i live in central Ohio. Am sure we use different terms for the same thing. Am very sure folks in, say, the far west
use different words then we do here, and this is just the U.S. i am given to understand that Mudos is way larger then our world.

Abeguy 03-06-2005 12:53 PM

a Sloggus Sleggus
and a Sloggus Sloggus
:D

panuru 03-07-2005 01:09 AM

Someone should write Alf and ask him why this is. I wondered the same thing. I think that either OWI changed their minds from using Slogs to using Slegs at the last minute OR a Sleg is a type of (wild) Slog so what's it matter if the signs have Slogs on them? Who knows...

Hmmm... thats true.

Um, no. I wrote a strategy guide for the game and in the process of writing it I noticed this peculiar aspect of the game. That's all.

i wouldnt have the patience to do that. congratulations.

I think it's just the font of writing, if you look harder, you'll see that there is like a little line gooing through the O of Slog, making it Sleg Handlers

The Big Cheese 03-24-2005 02:05 AM

ill write ALF and ill tell you guys later

(if he replys)

stingbee 03-30-2005 12:03 AM

I think while in production of the game sleg were originally slog's perhaps oddworld decided to change them to sleg instead and forgot to change the name slogkeeper

That's not a real right thing to do when you're workingin the professional game industries...
