Oddworld Munch's Oddysee for GBA.

Hey,I just got Munch's Oddysee for GBA,well least the use the music from the Xbox version, and I was wondering,do any of you think this game is a good portable OW game when you're outdoors?Or do you think it's not a good game at all...I think it was great!

Leto 02-17-2005 11:39 PM

Yes, I thought it t'was great. But then again- I'm a sucker for the portable versions :p The story was crap- Cutscenes were good. It more for the experience. My only critisism is moving. Moving is pretty damn hard.

Wil 02-18-2005 05:44 AM

As for it being an Oddworld game, it was pretty poor. There were no real issues addressed, characterisation was dreadful, and the story was alright, but nothing to leap around about. It gave more insight into the Oddworld world, though, which is what compelled me to keep playing.

The gameplay, ignoring the limitations of the GBA, was much more puzzle-based than MO's gun-toting emphasis, which kind of harkened back to the Abe games, but similar tedium resulted from the parent game, plus the same level decorations, which wasn't impressive.

All in all, it's quite fun if you're looking for a return visit to Oddworld, but not if you're looking for the same kind of storytelling and moral depths.

Oddish 02-18-2005 07:41 AM

I didn't vote, because I don't have the game.

Leto 02-18-2005 01:31 PM

Great input, Oddish :fuzemb:

Yes, it's like if there was an Oddworld movie opposed to an Oddworld kids show. One would be awesomely epic- the other, just something to watch with your favourite characters in it.

(Yes, I know and Oddworld kids series will never exist, or I hope it wont. :p)

Neither do I. I do know that X-play gave it a 2 out of 5, though. But I can't judge because I've never played it.

Leto 02-18-2005 01:44 PM

Gamespot gave it a 3 out of 10. No pleasing some people :p

odd chick 02-18-2005 01:48 PM

Yeah, those people have to have perfect games! :p

Phat_man 02-18-2005 06:46 PM

Well listening to you guys talk about it is like listening to John Kerry.

Haha a political joke. If anyone takes that serious your out of your mind.

Alcar 02-18-2005 07:13 PM

I liked it, but I'm with the general concensus on this issue: I don't think it came anywhere near the proper Oddworld games, but it was good on its own merit.

Alcar...

Phat_man 02-18-2005 08:23 PM

What and my joke is just going to go unoticed huh? Too bad maybe you guys didn't get it.

You guys were flipping and flopping your opinions, get it?

Leto 02-18-2005 08:41 PM

Yes, Phat man, we noticed, just dont make anymore jokes, please. Please.

As an Oddworld game- It was appauling. As a game- It was relatively amusing. I finished it in two days, and it has satisfied me oddworld-wise until Stranger. Sad, no?

Phat_man 02-18-2005 08:44 PM

Sorry it was corny huh?

Tough crowd.

Took me until I finished it to actually enjoy it... ;) It was really just an experience thing. Just some pointless fun, with a bad story.

Abe16 02-19-2005 08:46 PM

It was okay. But I liked the X-box version

Mudokon Princess 02-19-2005 11:56 PM

MO for Xbox rox! But Stranger's Wrath is WAAAAAAYYYYYY better!

Shinjara 02-20-2005 09:16 AM

This version is the closest I can get to MO to be honest, due to having no XBox.

I thought the game was alright, it didn't have the spirit of the console games, which of course would have had way more effort put into them than this game.

I enjoyed playing it, but I disliked the controls :\

Nate 02-20-2005 04:40 PM

What actually is the plot of the GBA version?

Leto 02-20-2005 09:36 PM

A mudokon spiritual base thing, "Windmill Hill" (I think, doing this from memory), is due to be disposed of so a Glukkon can make it a construction site. Really simplified plot, but I can't be bothered playing the game again.

Are you shitting me? The controls almost ruined the game for me. Playing it disintergrated my thumbs even further. You have to push 'up' on the d-pad really, really hard to take a step foward. Time for a joystick, Nintendo. The controls cannot be put across as horribley as they deserve.

Shall play the game for 30 mins and post a plot a.s.a.p...

Software Bug 02-20-2005 09:39 PM

i realy liked it when i was bored but it wasnt such a game that when i came home from school i say : well i let the movie and homework and go plaay this game:p
it was fun to just see the reactions of sligs and slogs bechause they act difrent then in Munch's Oddysee

CarboN 02-24-2005 04:44 AM

Well, the game was okay.
I hated the password-system.
But the 'extra' what you got when you finished the game was fun.
I was kinda dissappointed when there was no bad ending, therefore no moral to rescue the mudokons and fuzzles.
It has been a long time since I played it.

Xavier 02-24-2005 05:30 AM

what was the extra in fact?

CarboN 02-24-2005 10:29 AM

Warning! This spoils if you're going to buy Munch's Oddysee for GBA..
The extra was a music player where you could play all the musics and sfxs that appeared in the game.
Okay, it's nothing so special, but I'm easy to amuse..

Wil 02-25-2005 12:50 PM

I finished the game. I don't remember any extra.

As for the story, I will post the premise. Since not many people own the game, the full synopsis should go in the Spoiler Forum. *snigger* I'm only pulling your toes.

Break Wind Hill is a Mudokon sanctuary protected by pure winds. When construction of Evenwurst Weenerz Factory begins, the polluted gases it bellows threaten the safe haven of Break Wind Hill. To close the factory down for good, Abe and Munch must reach the heart of the problem and elliminate the financial source of the construction work - Fort Glokz.

According to Alf, Evenwurst is built on the ruins of RuptureFarms, but this is never mentioned in the game, and by looking at the Oddworld Map this is clearly impossible.

Alpha 02-25-2005 01:01 PM

Never got that game, I always thought it was a remake of AO,AE and MO not new story's!.

CarboN 02-26-2005 02:40 PM

Remember the first screen when you start the game, where's Munch's head and all, you can select "new game", "password" etc, there's also "secret". That is the extra thingy.

brom42 02-26-2005 05:06 PM

I thought the game sucked. I am one of those people who will play a game that is really bad, just because it is in a series I like; so I played through the whole thing anyway.

Fuzzleman54321 02-27-2005 12:37 AM

You could only get the extra option if you got a ranking of A plus.

CarboN 02-27-2005 12:41 AM

Oh, that's right.. I didn't remember any rankings.

Edit: Wow! 100 posts :D
