You sickos are blocked.
If you've been wondering where I've been for the last week I have a good explanation. Our local I.T. guy/expression Nazi at school blocked OWF. And the real kicker is, it's for "Internet Communication!" I about had a HEART ATTACK when I saw that. Christ, isn't that what the internet's for. So, you probably won't be hearing much from me until Easter break and my 18th birthday. Following my 18th birthday I'll post on the weekends from the library. Other than that, you won't be seeing me until the tail end of May. Goddamn fascist blockers!
|
Why don't you just ask him to unblock it?
|
Because the man is sick
|
:
But anyway, how dare you try to gain access to Internet Communication resources using Information Communication Technology. [Disclaimer] The latter part of this post is sarcasm. Just making sure. |
:
Grow the hell up statikk, and for gods sake stop whinging and whining about something that you never should've had in the first place. This thread shouldn't even be in Off Topic, it should be in welcomes and birthdays, if the only purpose of it is to bitch about the fact that you won't be on OWF as much because you can't access it at school. And no, the internet is not just for communication. Unless you classify online shopping, research, learning, listening, and downloading as 'communication'. The only communication there is that of data - and you can hardly have a conversation with an ADSL router. (unless you're rain man) Honestly I thought you were more grown up than this Statikk. :nonono: |
He's not 'whinging', Mawk.
And for someone who rarely contributes unless he's insulting another member, you might do well to take your own advice and grow up. |
:
C'mon, lets face it, he was goofing off in IT and now he's saying that the teacher is a nazi because he's trying to get Statikk to actually do some WORK for a change. Surely you of all people can see how pathetic that is. And don't let your homosexual love of Statikk get in the way of your honesty either. :p |
:
While I agree that he was definitely 'goofing off' in class, I fail to see how that makes him pathetic in any way shape or form. Once again, take your own advice, Mawk. For someone who goes out of his way to appear as mature as possible you certainly managed to take a few steps back by making some off-handed remark about my sexuality. |
:
Secondly, I don't go out of my way to appear as anything. I'm just me. You're just gunna have to take my word for it, since niether you or I can prove it either way. I am slightly suprised that I come off as though I'm attempting to look more mature... I wasn't expecting that at all. :S And please, I'm not here to rip the piss out of Statikk. :) I'm just a little dissappointed in him, that's all. I goofed off in IT all the time, but I at least appreciated the fact that the teachers were only doing their jobs by getting us back to work again, since they would be neglegent to let students just goof off all day. |
I'm not gay.
|
Er, on topic, I have the same problem Statikk. The entire New South Wales Catholic Education Office makes us use an Internet sytem which they have the control to ban certain sites. The Oddworld Forums are banned because they are a Discussion Board / Chat Room. Oddworld Universe is banned because it contains Pornography, personally, I don't know how they know about that stash.
Anyhoo, to get around it, I use one of the many Proxies available on the Internet. While I am unable to post, I can look in on what is happening. Simply search 'phproxy' in Google and you'll be given a list of great sites to use it. Alcar... |
Heh heh, I can access OWF on my school computers. In fact, when I'm on OWF when there is moer than 5 people, chances are I'm on at school, otherwise I'm out of sync (time wise).
Anywhoo- as for sites that are blocked on the schools computers- Neopets. Many, many childish geeks try to go on this site, but to no avail. It says "This site has been blocked due to its drug use and sexual content. Your attempt has been recorded.". I find this most amusing. What are the neopets staff hiding..? :P |

|
Although I rarely use it for anything other than work - too many people about to whinge if you go off to look at cars and stuff - the hospital intranet has the irritating tendency to block the Google cache (when it'll allow the un-cached page itself perfectly happily), which I regularly use to locate my search terms in a document. I haven't worked out how or why yet, I just feel very "smashee PC, ug" when it does it.
|
That's an unfortunate turn of events. I remember in high school they had all kinds of perfectly normal sites blocked, but people still somehow managed to get "Smut smut smut!" pages. Very strange. As for goofing off, who cares? If I remember the classes that gave me internet access correctly, they were about learning to type and using word processor. Judging by his posting history, Statikk REALLY NEEDS that. <-(sarcasm). And here I was expecting a list of members he'd blocked.
Later, Statikk. |
I feel for you, Statikk. OWF is semi-blocked on our school network. I say semi-blocked, because we use some crap called Navaho, which allows me to log in and see all the new posts, then blocks me, meaning all the new posts are already marked as read by the Forums. It blocks perfectly normal sites, and woe betide any art student studying nudism. We're not allowed to use ‘chat rooms’ like MSN (even though MSN Messenger is an instant messenging program, not a room at all), but it's installed on every single computer, and anyone can use it no problem.
Censorship is such a load of bollocks. Come on! We're human beings as well as students and pupils! We do need to live our lives while on the school premeses. |

Uni firewall was more of a fire-sieve; It wasn't very good. Porn got through fine, according to the letters of complaint in the student newspaper. ("I caught one sick young man up in the library pumping away under the table with his trousers around his ankles late one evening when I was trying to do my coursework! How REVOLTING! Can't the university DO something about this plague?!") I never did find anything the Uni system blocked, thinking about it - just attachments on some emails. |
You can always try getting past by translating the page from something like german to english, for that use Altavista or Google translation.
Ours at school is a pain in the ass, it has like a learning mode on it and if it finds you going on a certain site too many times it'll automatically block it. We've even tried using a different browser. It sucks, they block websites when they should be tackling people using P2P software to take advantage of the 5MB line. |
Isn't there a backwards search engine? elgooG or something. Apparently all the Chinese use it, because it lets them read BBC World-service news etc - normally the Government prevents them accessing non-approved sites (including anything foreign, pretty much, so far as I can tell), but the "national firewall" doesn't recognise "sweN CBB" and lets them look at it. :D I may have got all the facts wrong, but it was in New Scientist recently. Amused me. :)
|
|
elgooG is origional, I must say. Its revoloutionary, really. :fuzemb: Well- Now I know an alternative of the exact same thing. Does it display all of the sites it find backwards?
