Nobody here!

Is it just me, or are these forums empty too often? Yet I always see about 9 guests in here. Just sign up, guys! Come on!
It's just a small gripe I have. I want this to evolve into a full-fledged forum with tons of people on! Guests, start signing up.

AWWW 02-06-2005 05:03 PM

Hey I signed up, my names AWWW...
I loved this forum.
The rules here a alot tougher then the last forum that I was on, could this be the reason to joining, good thing really , if not a little of puting.

It took me u2 days(1 day for the e-mail, another for the admin to let me in ) before I could acually post, did it take you this long??

After the long wait I really happy to be apart of this place :)

Kimon 02-06-2005 05:11 PM

Actually it took me a bit longer, about 4 days. Congradulations on signing up. it's a good forum.

Oh yeah, and what do you mean by tougher?

Godlesswanderer 02-06-2005 05:18 PM

When I signed up around two months ago, it took 2 days for the conformation email to come. It was one of the only internet related things I've waited that long for before I forgot about it a moved on .

odd chick 02-06-2005 05:21 PM

I signed up in November and it took about 1 day before I was able to post. But I really like it here-it's pretty cool. ;)

AquaticAmbi 02-06-2005 06:16 PM

Uh, it's just you. There's plenty of members here.

Plus, everyone is in different time zones, so they're on at different times of the day.

And besides that, even if there weren't many, always remember: "quality over quantity.

Kimon 02-06-2005 06:18 PM

Oh okay. It's just that I've been on The Elder Scrolls forums for a while, and they have hundreds of members on at a time. So I'm comparing it to the best.

TheLonelySteef 02-06-2005 07:18 PM

I'm new to these forums also, only took a couple hours to get confirmed for me.
I wish their were more people too.

AWWW 02-06-2005 07:27 PM

:

Congradulations on signing up

Thanks.
What I meant by tougher is the last forum I was on was not as strict as this one(people there were breaking alot of the rules(lots and lots of spam there) and nothing was being done about it, I think it was more to the fact the other forum was just under staff).
Just a thought to the reason of not many people joining(the guest you were talking about).
To tell you all the truth this is only the second forum that I joined...
so I'm still a bit of a noob

Well only people who know about Oddworld are going to join right (none my friends like, say its too hard.)

Alcar 02-06-2005 09:44 PM

Actually, I prefer the way the forums currently are. Even then, I'd probably be better suited if there were less. as for the user activation, the varying times depends on if I remember to activate you ;)

Alcar...

Ugh, I hate large forums. I still go on them, but there's no sense of community about it. These forums are a great size at the moment, although maybe a little bigger would be nice, as some of the topics in Offtopic are getting hell-boring.

SeaRex 02-07-2005 08:46 AM

Alright. Has anyone ever visited the abysmal cesspool of retardation known as the "G4(TechTV)" forums? Hm?

Yeah, well the last thing I want to happen to this place is for it to turn into a rampant mob of fanboism and incoherent posts (like the G4 forum). No one every gets noticed on those forums because there's too much shit being thrown around in a gigantic, eternal orgy of 1337 speak and spam. Of course no one gets noticed. When you have an insane amount of members on at any given time, having a decent conversation is impossible. Threads will get swallowed up in five minutes, dragged down into the swirling funnel of excrement.

Not that this would ever happen here, as OW isn't overly popular, but you get the point.

There. I'm done. OWF is fine. We have enough members. Sure we could probably use a little growth, but we'll probably get some more members here and there, and of those, about 10% will be decent.

The end.

Esus 02-07-2005 08:56 AM

I like this forum.
Sometimes, we have busy periods when I come on and see tons of new posts. I prefer it when there are fewer, because then I have to read less, and threads are often too damn interesting to miss up on reading them; in General Oddworld, anyway.

Oddish 02-07-2005 09:56 AM

This is first forum I ever jioned in. I like becuase things are in place and sorted, and arttractive skins and banners, interesting if your an odd fan. And your not only person who likes oddworld.

Biggy Bro Slig 02-07-2005 10:10 AM

I didn't even here about forums till i joined this.

With this I must disagree. At the Elder Scrolls forum (not to sound preachy) there are hundreds of members, but the mods are competant and pretty much everyone participates as they are supposed to. There is definetly a sense of community. The forum 'elders' are respected for theire knowledge and experience, and they nurture the new guys.

Okay, that sounds sort of weird, but my point is, it's an orderly forum, and lots of fun.

Actually, I just posted a thread there about 5 minutes ago, and alreadt I have 5 responses, all of them supportive to the topic.

Just my 2 cents.

We have too much fresh meat. And by Fresh Meat I mean anyone who registered after 2002. I'm actually of vetran status via my being here. We don't have many vetrans left, its pretty much just 02^ peoples, which I don't mind so much as the fact that they all use fucking shorthand to talk and can't spell for shit. Damn 10 year olds think they can just grab a keyboard and a 56k internet connection and start talking... I'm not saying you can't, you can, and people do. Its like Chris Rock says "Just because you can do it, dosn't make it good idea!".

And it isn't. Because then things like this happen...

sligster 02-07-2005 04:51 PM

I like the forum the way it is. Like Searex said, too many people turns the forum into an online hellhole of spam and porn....

I personally wouldn't mind the latter....

In a big forum, it's hard to make a serious conversation, and when you do, you have to bump it every two minutes or it will be drowned out by lesser topics, and move back 3 or 4 pages in no time.

The population on this forum is fine.

Volsung 02-07-2005 05:03 PM

This is the first and only Forum i've ever joined. So I can't be very objective about what size would be good. On the other hand, I have in the past perused forums with absurdly high amounts of contributing members and a vast quantity of posts seemed to be unconnected drivel. I've no doubt that was a mod problem, and was not the unavoidable result of having an enormous amount of members, however, there is a nice sense of community here that a larger forum may not be able to maintain.

But the topic is a bit moot, really, if we don't have any control over how many people sign up or contribute. If we're trying to get the guests to sign up so this can be a larger forum, my feeling is: if you don't have anything to add, don't bother. The guests are probably just looking through for information. If that's the case, why not just use the search and save yourself the trouble of signing up and posting? The forum has answered almost all concievable questions about Oddworld or OWI at some point.

Kimon 02-07-2005 05:44 PM

Ok. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought about the population. Thanks for responding, everyone. :)

Abeguy 02-07-2005 06:21 PM

I joined Legendary Frog's forum and 1. it's so much more crowded and threads get posted within the next couple minutes of you posting and 2. The Mods are way more strict.
that's why most of my life is spent at school or here:D

Wil 02-08-2005 11:57 AM

There are too many people as it is!

Heh, seriously; while I would sincerely love the Forums to grow in stature and size, it'll be hell to moderate. It'll become one of those busy Forums where only the topics with interesting subject titles will be looked at. It's taken me over two hours to get through moderating all of GD this evening. I planned to get it done in significantly less time, what with having biology coursework to hand in tomorrow, but because if I don't get the whole thing done at once, unread (i.e. unmoderated) posts become ‘read,’ which is just no good.

Anyway, that's my strongest opinion, as selfish as it may be. Just to let you know, Zulag one is the busiest it's been for many, many months.

Abe's son 02-09-2005 04:32 PM

Yeah... and the bigger it grew the less intellegent people would show up. And that makes me a saaad panda. Well it makes Petey the Posting panda, and Gary the Grammar Griffon, very saaad mascots.

No but really we should have those mascots.

Nate 02-09-2005 07:41 PM

Well we have a few options here:

or
http://panda99.free.fr/herm/computer.JPG
for petey and
http://www.toyarchive.com/Dungeons&D...fedProto1a.jpg
for Gary.

Rich 02-10-2005 02:46 PM

Why, oh why did you go waste your time getting some stupid pics? :p
