Color version of the manual?

Like many, I was disappointed that the manual for OW: SW was in black & white. I would guess this saved on manufacturing costs a bit, but does anyone know if there's a color version of the manual (electronic version, pdf format) available? I know Micro$oft made an electronic version of MO's manual.

EA always do B&W manuals...
I don't know of any downloadable version yet

Oddish 02-04-2005 12:49 PM

SW manual is black & white!? What the hell, why? I loved the the Oddworld coloured manules, and what's this, a crappy black & white one.

Shame EA... no wounder why so many people dislike EA.

Esus 02-04-2005 12:59 PM

It was really disappointing to hear it.
A while ago while I was thinking of the manual, I quickly checked the manuals for my other Ea games, and quite frankly, my heart sank. And now we've had confirmation.

Hrm, you are right. I only have a few EA published games, but the manuals are all B&W. *sigh*

Perhaps someone with an inside scoop *cough*Alf*cough* could help us out.

Dualist 02-04-2005 01:27 PM

It's just the instruction booklet, chill.

Oddish 02-04-2005 01:44 PM

It's oddworld, and oddworld is loved by it's briliant art, and having a black & white blooket dosn't suit them. Oddworld always had coloured books even back on the PSone when most blooklets were black & white back then. Also GT interactive is a smaller company than EA, some how GTI can make coloured blooklets, and EA a big campany can't, I don't see why they can't make a simple coloured book. It shows how much they care about their games.
Plus, it's oddworld. Coloured books realy catches your eye, and it has a better richer feeling when it's coloured. Not black & white!

So yeah, it's inportant for me to have coloured blooklets. And who knows how long EA could be with OWI makeing blooklets non-colourful through the whole series. It's just disappointing.

that's a Glukkon, er, I mean EA for ya... save money on ink... cut corners... all in the name of profit.

Haha. Yeah, all those big name companies are run by the Glukkons.

I'm still disappointed that the manual will be in black and white. That's ruined the experience for me, or at least the initial experience of a great game when I first open the box. I've been frequently visiting the Xbox.com Stranger's Wrath games description page in case they upload a colour manual - though I doubt they will, with Oddworld not tied to Microsoft anymore, I don't think they'll be eager to help.

Alcar...

oddguy 02-04-2005 08:54 PM

It's color on the outside.

*runs away from screaming mob*

Really though, it's not like the game is black and white. The game is what Oddworld has control over, and it is fantastic.

Yeah, I guess theres that. Still, it just shows how mass produced EA are.
Good, look at the positives, look at the positives....

*Sucks thumb, swing on the floor*

Not only is the manual in black and white, but it is also one of the smallest manuals I have ever seen. MO's manual was 29 pages, OSW is only 13 pages long. That's funny, because OSW is obviously the more advanced game. You won't find a list of the "odd objects", the industrial world, or the natural world, then again you won't find anything that goes into detail. Oh well, at least the game more then makes up for the EA manual.

erwinraaben55 02-05-2005 05:19 AM

Damn, thats no fun. The oddworld booklets were one of the nicest from all games. I read through them more times, just for fun.

_GrubHunter_ 02-05-2005 06:10 AM

Oh no, thats no cool :(

Wil 02-05-2005 12:28 PM

Manuals are an integral part of gaming, and Oddworld's have always been of a particularly high standard. I check through them regularly: they're never in the CD case, because they're always next to my computer where I need them frequently. A black and white Oddworld manual would be like a black and white Oddworld game. But fortunately, there is a colour Oddworld game inside that case.

Shame on EA.

That's shocking, thirteen pages? Black and white. No, the Good, Bad, and Odd section? What on Earth IS in there?

AWWW 02-06-2005 01:49 AM

Well the game is yet to come out over here in Pal, so there still is hope for colour.
I not sure if they do redesign the instructions books for Pals games as I never had the NTSC to compare with, does anyone here know??

I hope that they don't decide to change the box art as well, as Pal had have some really bad box art for some great games *looks at RE:Code Veronica Pal box art and shivers*

It goes over the controls, Stranger's bio, gameplay, live ammo, general store items, tips, and credits.

Wil 02-06-2005 06:45 AM

AWWW, I believe the European cover is different, but only minimally. I think it has an orange hue as opposed to a beige one, but I don't think we have anything concrete on that right now.

I know the manuals for the PC and PlayStation versions of Abe's Exoddus were different.

Yup, that's true.

Does it still have the staff picture in the credit's (guess it would not matter much with the black and white picture to represent Stranger Western feeling...)??
Also a section on the Oddworld Quintology series.

Its not going to feel like a Oddworld game instruction book without it(already bad that its going to be in b&w).

MojoMan220 02-06-2005 06:21 PM

Nope and nope! Sorry...

evil1 02-06-2005 08:10 PM

this may be off topic but last week i saw the game at gamestop... the cover alone makes up for the crappy manual

Wil 02-08-2005 10:27 AM

:

Nope

Nooooo! What's the point of its existence, then? I was so looking forward to the next incarnation of the Inhabitants' team photo. Would they be hunters, outlaws, cowboys? This is a disaster. EA will surely pay for their hate crimes.

Oddish 02-08-2005 10:31 AM

OMG, I was looking forward to it too. I thought were going to see OWI dressed as cowbows in a big wanted poster.:( Instead we get nothing.

How very dissapointing...

smerles 02-08-2005 11:50 AM

EA shall rot in a hell run by Glukkons :D

Nate 02-08-2005 12:49 PM

Is there a company photo at the end of the game credits? Are the credits interesting like the Abe ones or just a scrolling list like Munch?

MojoMan220 02-08-2005 01:52 PM

:

No. The credits are pretty neat, with good music and stellar font effects.

AWWW 02-08-2005 09:36 PM

I was not really talking about the ending credits to the game, more of the staff photo in the credit sections thats in all Oddworld games instructions booklets...

The black and white booklet shock would not kill me, but the non-exstince of the staff photo will.

But in the end of the day a good Oddworld game (with the promise of many more to come) would surly make me live on.
