Okay, I may have been playing since '97 but...
I've played the games for years, and kept up pretty well, but I hear(...) things here that I've never heard of, like Queen Margaret...
And how'd y'all find out it was called a Glokigi? I never heard them say that in the whole game... Any other pieces of the story I wouldn't know from simply playing through the series? |
There's tonnes you won't know just by playing the games, LawnChairFire. ;) I'll bet you won't know how Abe's Moon was formed or why the rift between the Glukkons and Mudokons first occured, or the name of the autobiography Aslik released to cash in on his popularity, or who drew up the Oddworld Map.
OWI rewards it fans with so very much, but really the only ways for them to do that is over the Internet and going to see them in person. Having been a part of Oddworld's online fan community since 1999, many golden nuggets of information have been taken in by my eyes. :) Hope that helps. To specifically reveal how we knew those creatures were Gloktigi: ex-Inhabitant game designer Paul O'Connor used to write a designer diary while Munch's Oddysee was being developed. Gloktigi were designed during this time, and he uploaded a small scan of the designs of the Octigi Family, including their ‘names.’ |

It's nothing to be ashamed of. I once invented new quintology heroes just to confuse people. :D |
No NDW... the name is "I Aslik" and it's official
I even have some text from that book |
Let me rephrase this:
Where can I find out these things? |
Nowhere. Everywhere. Its just stuff that you pick up over time from Alf, OWI and the internet. There's no one resource that has the entire mythos in bite-sized chunks but the fansites do a pretty good job.
Also if you are interested in specific creatures or characters you can get good stuff from the Universe section of http://www.oddworld.com :
|
I heard about Margaret from a video on the SW pre-order dvd...
there's a few little bits like that in the extras section of the dvd. |
:
Margret, Glukkon queen... There's also Sam, the Mudokon Queen, and Skilla the slig queen (dunno if that one's spelled right) |
:
|
Yes, Mr. Max, we need info.
|
:
|
Also, Lady Margaret and Sam are both mentioned in Munches Oddysee, have you played that one?
:
|
duh... Lady Margaret needed the lungs...
I completely forgot about her! |

|
"I Aslik" is a book on oddworld, not a real one...
I'll have to find it back, and I don't realy have the time tonight |
THERES A SLIG QUEEN...
Only just joined the Oddworld forum, but I have been to the Oddworld site quite often, I've hearld of the Gluk Queen in the Mullock file (I think)+in MO and Sam at the end of AE with the 100% finish... But the Slig Queen is a first. Just one quick question in the BAD ending of MO, near the end of the clip as it zooms out to the score/message/ad board(can't tell from memory), is that a picture of Sams face?? Its a one second shot. At least one thing still here in all Oddworld games is that all charcters and creatures have no noses?!(This my younger brother told me) If they do, theres no signs of a nostrils... |
Awww, I was thinking I might have to relinquish my Oddworld Encyclopaedia title because everyone knew pretty much everything I did. I think I'll hang onto it a while longer, though.
What you describe, AWWW, is Sam's likeness. It's the only realisation of her in MO, even though she was supposed to be a character - Abe was going to rescue her from Vykkers Labs. There is information on Skillya on Oddworld.com, but I think like the article on The Shrink, they streamlined this information, so some of it might be missing now. Info on I, Aslik and the rift between the Glukkons and Mudokons comes from the old Oddworld.com. Search the Forums for ‘Aslik’ and ‘autobiography’ and find a thread about games that are played on Oddworld. The info is in there. Search GD for ‘map’ and read the topics from the earliest to the latest. Also check out all the Daily Deceptions available on Oddworld.com, plus my own Fan of the Month profile on there, but if you do that, ignore that hideous picture. Simply put, Abe's Moon formed by a meteor shower strike on an Oddworld moon. A sequence depicting this was set to be included in Abe's Exoddus, but wasn't. One possible reason it was removed: In an interview with the Exoddus Club after the release of AE, Lorne said that we would never find out how the moons formed, and it would always be a mystery. Evidently he changed his mind by telling Abe Babe and Pilot when they visited the studios, and it caused quite a rucus when the two relayed the story to us. I was adiment Lorne had already told us the truth. |
Being the friendly guy that I am, I've done the searching for you:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/showth...+autobiography There's some pretty damn funny stuff in there and it kinda clarified the process of slavery in a way I hadn't considered before. |
