Nicknames Sources...

Hi all, I was wondering: where do your nicknames come from? I know some people have simple ones like part of their name or stuff like that :D, but others have nicknames that are completely different from themselves, like mine. So, mine came from this little dude here:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2740&stc=1
I don't know why, but he just made me think of "gretin" before I knew what his actual name was. Then I decided to use it as my nickname here! :)

Al the Glukkon 01-22-2005 05:15 PM

Al/ Alex. The Glukkon/Favorite Oddworld creature.

TheRaisin 01-22-2005 07:01 PM

I think mine is fairly obvious. I guess I related to The Almighty Raisin. Which, admittedly, is a bit odd . . .

Abeguy 01-22-2005 07:06 PM

Abe, First oddworld Character I actulley know about
guy. I'm a dude

Leto 01-22-2005 10:24 PM

The fact is, I'm just stupid when it comes to names. Since the name 'Munch' would obviously been taken, I would put 'Super' or 'The Real' at the start of it. So I chose super.

Thooper story, ain't it? :p

Gretin 01-22-2005 11:54 PM

I'm not exactly that good at making names... well, okay, I'm good at thinking of silly names, gretin was the only one that I made up from that game that sounded any good. I mean, galusha would sound a bit strange... or maybe not?
Another thing is that most of my names end up being two syllables (the above name is an exception).

munchou 01-23-2005 03:05 AM

Mine comes from "munch" too.
In fact, in 1998 I had my first PC and my first game : Abe's Oddysee, then I had Abe's Exoddus and internet (maybe in 1999). At the end of Abe's Exoddus, there is something like "Munch's Oddysee - Coming fall 2001". I was so excited ^^.
Then I subscribed to a site (caramail.com), and chose as nickname "munch", but it was already used, so I chose munchou. At the beginning, I didn't like this nick, but with the time... now I love it ! :D

Cyber-Slig 01-23-2005 04:44 AM

Well I just thought cyborgs were cool and then I thought of the least gay industrialist and wow! Cyber-Sig was invented!

Wil 01-23-2005 06:46 AM

On the old Oddworld Forums I went by the name of ‘Max the Meetle.’ It was really just something I thought about and made up, something along the lines of ‘Vince the Vykker,’ which I think was another of my creations, or else I'm just remembering somebody's else nickname as my own. When the vB OWF were born, I decided to become a Mug.

Hobo 01-23-2005 06:56 AM

Ho/ an urban bitch

bo/ short for botanical gardens. Where i grew up.

If you believe that i believe your name means the following:

Paramiteabe/ Moron

WiLL the Wander 01-23-2005 07:11 AM

I was very young, but I still remember: It's from Star trek: Next Generation. The strange thing is that I first saw the Star Trek 3 years ago, but I had this name for 5 years. I added the Wander after I found the Forum.

SeaRex 01-23-2005 08:20 AM

*sigh*

Scrapped Oddworld creature.

I hate the name, although if the name had nothing to do with OW, I would probably think it's a whole lot cooler.

Coolmanbizkit 01-23-2005 08:37 AM

I have no idea how Coolmanbizkit came along but i dont like it. I only have it because i have it on everything else and i cant think of another new name.

Oddish 01-23-2005 01:03 PM

Well I chose my name for obvious reasons. I wanted a oddworldly username that wasn't from one creature, like Slig,Mud, etc. I wanted to have an "odd" in it. Oddex, Oddguy, Oddball were already taken, so I just thought of "Oddish" It has an "odd" in it, and it was simple, and one worded too.

Esus 01-23-2005 01:09 PM

And of course, it's a Pokémon ;)

:

I thought of the least gay industrialist and wow! Cyber-Sig was invented!
Hahaha! Yet strikingly similar to mine.
I thought of the most gay Celtic God and wow! Esus emerged from the pack.

Nate 01-23-2005 01:32 PM

A few years back there was a girl in my circle of friends who was (is) a bit of a bitch. One day she started calling me Nate-Dog - I assume only to irritate me, although possibly referencing the rapper. It caught on and people started calling out "Nate-Dog... WOOF!" It was one of those situations where it would only get worse if I objected so I just went along with it. Some time later I needed a logon name for online footy tipping (with the same group of friends) and I just went with nate_dog - only that was taken so it just became nate_dog_woof.

A few months after that I joined the forums and I couldnt come up with anything better, though I still don't like it particularly much. When Death changed his name to whatever, I asked AbeBabe to change me to Thorn (my surname is {surname redacted}, geddit?) but she didn't want to start changing everyone around so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Angel-FoX-crescent 01-23-2005 01:36 PM

My turn!
Origin of Angel-FoX-crescent is 3 reasons

1. "Angel" coz I'm modest and kind
2. FoX after my favourite fox the fennec
see images
The real fox

and avitar of yours truly

3. Finally crescent, coz I love crescent moons they make my heart flutter.

TheRaisin 01-23-2005 02:52 PM

I don't think angels are particularly modest or kind, are they? It seems that traditionally they're creatures of tremendous power and wrath, and they don't think twice about flaunting it.

That fennec has some . . . pretty big ears, eh?

AquaticAmbi 01-23-2005 02:58 PM

Aquatic because I'm all into ocean-related stuff, such as studying sealife and scuba diving. And Ambi because it's my most common nickname thing. (Real name is Amber, of course.)

I think the use of two A's is neat sounding and looking. I use this name everywhere.

sligster 01-23-2005 08:35 PM

well, I love sligs... and when I found the forums, it was a few days after I had watched terminator 2, which I loved.

So I put the two together and came out with the horrible translation of sligster.

but that was what? 2? 3 years ago?

Well, while we're splitting hairs here, allow me to point out that giant raisins don't talk. Or exist.

Fuzzle Guy 01-24-2005 02:44 AM

Fuzzle (Oddworld Creature, because I couldn't wait to buy Munch at the time) uy (I'm Male)

and I have mine...

I'd say that you're entitled to a name change, you've been here a while now and that should be honoured. Same with me, "The Intern" should be axed. I should just be "Rich".

Rex Tirano 01-24-2005 11:16 AM

I stole it.

With permission.

Otherwise I would've been called Henna-Girl.

Scary ain't it?

I'm over it now. I can't be bothered going to the effort of changing it. Besides I've only got two more weeks of regular forum visiting before I go back to uni and it becomes more sporadic.

Rex, I have to say about your nick that it took me ages to realise you're a girl. Damn you and your androgynous name!

TheRaisin 01-24-2005 01:15 PM

It's not that hard to figure out, Nate. After reading about two of her posts I thought, "There's no way that's a guy." Heh. I mean, what with all the ^_^ and the "Location: your eyes are prettiful". Mmmyeah.

Nate 01-24-2005 08:14 PM

I should explain further: It took me ages to work it out, most of which time I was feeling rather confused.
