Broken Bones

Well, yesterday at school I broke my ankle in P.E. while playing football*. I was trying to tackle this big guy in my class, I got my foot on the ball and moved it out of the way but he had already pulled his leg back to kick it. So he ended kicking my foot with full force. That pushed my foot to the side and since I was running at the time, I had to put my foot down. So I stepped down with all of my weight on my right ankle (my foot was still to the side). I then heard a crack and fell to the floor. I then complained to my friend who was in goal about how much it hurt, sat down for a few minutes and went limping off to play football again. Since I had never broken a bone before, I didn't realise it was broken. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. It still hurt a lot though.

Anyway, what I was going to ask before I got onto telling my little eventful day was...

Have you ever broken a bone?
If so, what did you brake and did it feel like you thought it would?

*Soccer not american football :).

Wow, that must be awful! I'm sorry that happened to you, Godlesswanderer. :( As for me, I've never actually broken a bone completely. I've just sprained my ankle a couple of times.

sligster 01-21-2005 03:00 PM

I, personally, have never broken a bone, cause I'm cautious like that.

Although my sister once broke her ankle because she and her friend were having a contest of who could jump off of the highest stair in the staircase... for what reason, only god knows....

But she got cocky and jumped off the 6th stair.... yea....

Disgruntled Intern 01-21-2005 03:57 PM

I've broken my nose, both arms, wrists, ankles and legs, 6 ribs, four fingers, my left collar bone, three toes and I've fractured my jaw...twice.

Most of the breakages were a result of backyard wrestling, car accidents, general 'stunt work', and my short lived skateboarding sponsorship.

I have arthritis in both hands and I walk with a slight limp due to a severe knee injury which ended my sponsorship five years ago.

SeaRex 01-21-2005 04:44 PM

Only my pinky toe and ring finger have been broken.

The toe broke when I was much younger. Made about a 90 degree angle with my other toes. I don't remember all that much from my life as a little kid, but I DO remember how much it hurt to break that toe. Then again, I had a very low threshold for pain as a child...

I don't remember how I broke my ring finger. I was maybe 12 or 13. All I remember is it had to be bound to my middle finger to heal.

No really interesting stories. My breaks were boring.

Dark Oddworld 01-21-2005 06:08 PM

I'm not an active ****er so I never brake bones

AquaticAmbi 01-21-2005 07:38 PM

Miraculously, I've never broken a bone in my body. I have no idea how I haven't considering my natural clumsiness.

There was one time where when my mom thought I broke my arm after falling off my grandmother's kitchen counter, though. I had x-rays and everything done. How exciting.

Rex Tirano 01-22-2005 04:13 AM

I've never broken a bone which suprises me because of all the things me and my friends get up to.

I thought I'd broken my ankle one time when we were playing football (soccer) and one of the girls had p.m.t. or something and tackled me. Turned out I had only sprained it and bruised the bone.

Cyber-Slig 01-22-2005 04:18 AM

Well this place is shite so I'm never out the house. But I had broken my nose once. And no, nobody punched me before anyone asks.

:D I'm really clumsy too. :D I don't know how I've gone this long with just a few sprains. Oh, and I jammed my finger one time-I was sure it was broken, but it wasn't.

Rich 01-22-2005 01:14 PM

I've never broken any bones, which is really surprising as I've always been clumsy. I've probably come close to breaking bones though.

Disgruntled Intern 01-22-2005 01:39 PM

Ugh, I hate it when people say they 'almost' broke a bone.

A bone is either broken or it isn't. There's no grey area.

Silversnow 01-22-2005 02:26 PM

No, I haven't. Never. Not even close. There was one time I thought my shoulder was... out of place? Disjointed? Anyway, it hurt like hell for ten minutes, and that's it. Luckily, nothing ever happens to me.

Alcar 01-22-2005 04:23 PM

I've broken my left arm, and my pinky toe on my left foot.

I broke my pinky toe only a month or two ago, while playing soccer in my backyard with my sister. We always play soccer, volleyball, tennis, badminton, or any other sports we can fit into our backyard (it isn't a terribly big backyard). Anyway, we never wear shoes, and as it happened, I went to kick the ball into her goals, at the same moment, she dug her foot into the ball as well, launching the ball off to the side. But our feet continued to accelerate. In trying to move my foot, and attention to where the ball was now heading, my pinky toe collided with her very hard ankle :p We both ended up hopping around like mad swearing curses at imaginary people :p

My left arm is a tad more interesting. A few years ago I used to do gymnastics as a competitive sport. In all honesty, I was extremely good. I usually came first or second in what events I did. During my usual afternoon training session at the place I trained at, we were pratising some very simple jumps off of the spring board, basically to warm up. Somehow, I managed to flip more than what I had intended, and as such, was heading head first for the ground when I came out of my flip. To protect myself, I launched my hands forward. I guess the full weight and momentum of my body somehow only went through my left arm. What still cracks me up today, is that I stood up feeling slightly disoriented, and had no idea I had just broke my left arm. It became apparent when I did a check of myself and noticed my arm was bent. It wasn't a normal break, instead of the usual lower arm cast, I had to have my arm set at an angle at the elbow, and have that casted. Furthermore, I developed a greater fear of gymnastics. After my arm was healed, I returned to gymnastics for one term. I decided to discontinue it after.

To be honest, when I look back on my life, I think that was the worst decision I've ever made. And consequently, the worst mistake.

My bones don't break, I'm invincible.
Okay, it's probably the opposite, but I'm not the most physical guy, so I have never broken a bone.

Leeum 01-23-2005 01:26 AM

Never broken a bone...yet :) I've got a spring bone in my right foot though, it dislocates itself when in wierd situations and damn does it hurt, i literally have a big buldge under the skin. To get it back in you normally have to massage it in a way, it's a pain in the ass tbh.

What I meant was, considering how much I fall over or have accidents (not the pissing in pants variety), it's surprising I've never broken a bone. In many of those incidents I could have easily broken some bones.

Alcar 01-23-2005 02:54 AM

Just to piss off Disgruntled Intern ;)

I almost broke my neck. Though I mean that with complete sincerity. Once again, it was during gymnastics. I lost my grip on the 'rings' while upside down. So I effectively fell face first at a complete 90 degree angle to the ground. I don't know how, but some reflex must have caused me to curl my head inwards. I took the fall on the back of my neck as well as my back. I was unable to breathe properly for a while (to the extent that I would not breathe at all simply to stop the pain it caused), and experienced very heavy pains for some time.

I still hate to imagine what would have happened had I not curled inwards.

I broke my index finger before, i was running around being an ass and i tripped landed on my index finger. It bent sidewards and it really hurt, It was about 2-3 years ago

EDIT: and i almost broke my neck, a day after my brothers sleepover for his party, we still had the duvet covers on the floor and they were in a pile. i kept running at them, jumping and landing on them and when i land did a rolly polly (sp?) but i landed one wrong and i landed on my neck. I couldnt breathe properly and i was just laying there for about ten minutes, i dont know why but i couldnt move.

Nate 01-23-2005 02:20 PM

I've never broken a bone though I did think I'd broken a rib once after being hit by a rogue jetski.

Once my brother was play-fighting with a friend of his (both were 13 at the time) and he said "punch my hand", holding it out to his side. The friend wacked him one on the nose and broke it.

Lets just say they weren't friends for too much longer.

Olli 01-26-2005 09:35 AM

I've broken both of my arms.
For one I got pushed off a trampoline onto a concrete floor.
The other I fell off the stairs (rails are good I say!).
I also broke my left wrist not too long ago in school, playing basketball.
I think I've been getting off lightly considering how clumsy and absent-minded I normally am.

Scrab Watcher 01-26-2005 11:37 AM

Well, when I was 3, I was dancing around the sitting room to the themesong of 'Bosco' on tv. Whatever happened, I went of-balance in midleap and landed flat on my nose. Ow.

Why are you all looking at me like that? *shifty eyes*

This story above any of the others make me the least comfortable... Probably because I can relate to it.

Languor 01-26-2005 04:51 PM

I've never broken any bones... never had surgery... never even somewhat seriously injured myself. Damn I'm awesome. :-P

I can relate to that. My friend has no rail on his stairs, I'm scared of falling off when I sleep round there.

Angel-FoX-crescent 01-27-2005 10:35 AM

Eee... when I was 11 I broke my right arm completely in two places plus a chipped shoulder when I fell off my horse at ridding school all coz some fool didn't put the saddle on right, goddess it hurt like crazy!
But hey I got over it and I still think horses are sweet as my horse at time "Blue"
was the softest horse I met.
But still borken bones are evil ouch...

Nate 01-27-2005 01:13 PM

I just found out that I have broken a bone... I think.

I visited an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat doctor) yesterday because of mucus problems and he told me that he thinks I've broken my nose sometime in the past as it is very slightly twisted. You wouldn't know it to look at but there is a bit of a weird bump on the side if you rub your finger along it. Truth be told, I can't remember how I broke my nose but I do remember when I was 12 my nose was unusually sensitive to bumps and vibrations.

So now it looks like I'm going to need a nose job. Hooray!

If you look really closely you can see there is slightly more nose on the left (my right) than on the right.

Languor 01-27-2005 01:26 PM

Broken noses gross me out the most out of all broken bones. To fix them don't doctors just snap them into place? *shivers* Disgusting...

Nate 01-27-2005 01:29 PM

If its a really bad one they make cuts at the base of the nose and flip the entire skin up. *throws up into rubbish bin* But thankfully I won't need that, they'll be able to come from inside the nostrils.

Gretin 01-27-2005 01:36 PM

I don't believe I've broken any bones before... I've fallen off horses before and injured myself in plenty of other ways, but, so far, I've always just ended up with cuts and bruises. Lucky, I guess. :)
