Abes Exoddus crashing
 

I've been playing AE for years, and it has functioned properly, but the other day, all of a sudden, I loaded a level and started playing like normal, but after about 3 minutes, it crashed and I got one of those messages that says

Oddworld Abe's Exoddus has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So I tried a different level, and the same thing happened. I tried just about every save I have (and that is ALOT) and it just keeps crashing. Some times it only crashes when I do a certain action, like activate Shrykull or pull a lever. Anyone else have this problem? HELP!

It happened to me too once. I just reinstalled the game and it worked. You should scan your computer for viruses.

Ok thanks. I'll try that. Although that brings up the problem of all my saved files. If I save them into another folder and then put them back in once I reinstall it, they should work, right?

Yes. But on some uninstalls it asks you if you want to keep your saved game files.

Gahh!!! I tried that and all the saves worked like normal but it keeps on crashing! I also found that it crashes when I get zapped by a Security Orb. Any other ideas? Anyone?

Infact you're lucky it's running on Windows XP. Try right clicking the game > properties > compatibility > tick the option and run it under a different OS like Win2K.

Grrr. That didn't work either. But thats the closest I've gotten to it fully working. It worked for a little bit but then crashed...again. This might be the most ironic thing ever. I saved all 300 muds for the first time and right when I try to activate Shrykull in the room with the 2 flying sligs and UXB bombs with the final exit wheel, I zap 3 UXB's, one slig, and the Security Orb, and right after the 5th zap, it crashes. Its always the same.

Your save files might have been corrupted somehow. You might have to reinstall the game and loose your save files with it.
