The Dance Dance Revolution thread

Have you ever played the game? Well for people who don't know what DDR is..

It's a game where you use your FEET. The goal is to complete a song by following the steps and the beat. If you don't do good, you'll get booed. There are certain levels of the game. We have:

Beginner
Light
Standard
Heavy
Oni

If you pass a song you'll get a grade:

AAA -best-
AA -2nd best-
A -good-
B -a little bit good-
C -average-
D -bad-
E -failed-

There are also songs. Some are licened tracks and some are made up by hired artists. Some of my favorites would be the following:

Sandstorm
Sakura
A
Diving
Castles in the sky
Mad Blast

But I can't name all of them.

I got a few AAAs in Heavy mode here and then.
If you have anymore questions or comments about the game, post them here.

I've played it and I'm really bad at it due to my innate uncoordinatedness.

odd chick 01-06-2005 01:49 PM

I've never played it, but it looks like a lot of fun! :)

Facsimile 01-06-2005 03:41 PM

I see... So you use your FEET. That's an interesting concept, using your FEET. I can say I've never used my FEET to play a game, but I have seen them, and decided that
a. I don't want to play DDR, and
b. Japanese kids are very good with their FEET.

I keep trying to convince Ambi that we need to try out the game together at the mall sometime. After, of course, we chased the "good" people off the machine and I bragged how great I am. Better than anyone in the world, in fact. Then we play it on the highest difficulty and fail miserably.

She won't do it, though! You will play that crazy game with me SOMETIME, Ambi! I swear!

But boy, it would be fun-nae. I'm the most awkward person. I'm not going to dignify that with an "ever" or "that I know"; I'm just the most awkward person.

i love DDR! i'm actually starting to get AA's in some heavy songs :D

...That shouldn't stop your awkward ass from trying it! You're just using me as an excuse! :| :p

That you are, my love. That you are. But I'm the second most awkward and uncoordinated. How we have not seriously injured each other or someone else by being together is beyond me. DDR would probably accomplish both of those.

Well crap. I just completely deleted my whole post. That angers me. Anyways...

I was gunna start this thread. Idea stealer. :P I started playing DDR maybe a couple of months ago, and ever since I first played for real I've been addicted. It's so fun, and it's cool to see yourself slowly get better. As of now I can pass pretty much any song on Standard (except for things like Max 300 (although I have passed it before), and things above 250+ BPM can be a bit of a stretch, depending on the song). Next time I play though I plan on upgrading to Heavy, because Standard is getting slightly boring, and I think I can probably do Heavy. To all of you who have never played: try it! It's a ton of fun when you actually start playing, and you don't have to be good at dancing - I suck at dancing at parties, but hey I got DDR down. :)

Oh, and my favorite songs:
-A
-bag (haha... everyone hates that song)
-Butterfly (not really a favorite, but it's cool)
-the second song under "D" on DDR Extreme... dunno the title cause it's in Japanese (it sounds like Linkin Park except Asian, and it has cool Standard dance steps)
-Drop the Bomb (most of the mixes)
-Genom Screams
-Healing Vision (both mixes)
-Janejana (another song everyone hates :))
-Orion.78 (both mixes, especially the Civilization mix)
-ALL PARANOIA MIXES. PARANOIA IS AWESOME.
-Rhythm and Police
-Tsugaru (both mixes)
-Witch Doctor (hated this song, but have come to like it... :))

And that's about all I can think of. If I had the game in front of me I could prolly list more, but... there's too many songs.

DDR IS AWESOME.

Are the moves the same every time you do a song, or are they random?

Languor 01-06-2005 09:08 PM

The songs themselves have the same dance steps for each difficulty, but each song has a different set of steps. For example, if you were playing on a song called A, the Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy modes would each have a different set of steps, but they would also be different than the Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy modes for the song B. They aren't random at all. Each time you play you get the same dance steps.

This game is weirdly addictive and obviously embarrasing(sp?). Like other members of the forum , I am very awkward in movement/ everything. But the game is very good/bad. Indesicive!

sliguy101 01-07-2005 04:06 AM

That song is called "DAIKENKAI" if you just wanted to know, Languor.

Oh ok. Thanks. :)

Anyone know where you can buy DDR CDs (if you can?) in the U.S.? I've looked in several records stores but can't find them. I don't really want to buy them on-line if I don't have to... and don't really wanna download them either.

Wolfpac 01-12-2005 06:28 PM

I love watching people play DDR, but I suck at it myself. I have played it twice. And both times I just made it through on the beginner stage. But I'll try it again someday because someone gave me a tip on how to play it. Oh and it's a good workout too.
