Strangers' Wrath Review!
Ok, that's what it says, but the thing is, this is the closes thing I could get:
http://www.gamestats.com/objects/568....html?ui=watch But the acual review artcles won't load up... It's not the offcial score just yet. |
Wow! Great find Oddish! So for now it's an 8.5, huh? That's pretty good, but I hope the final score will be higher.
Edit: The other pages wouldn't come up for me, either. |
Hmmm, I can't get to it either, if you mean the EGM review. However, I did spot that the review gave the scores 8·5, 8·5, 8·5, as already reported on OddBlog.
|
That's not very good considering they gave Munch's Oddysee three 9.0's or something like that.

We'll find out like in a couple of weeks

When I first heard about EGM's score for Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, it was at another forum. This forum happened to bad mouth EGM so much for their inaccurate scores that I didn't place any faith in such a low score of 8.5. Strang'ers Wrath is up there in the 9's!
As for the article, you aren't meant to read it. It was in one of their magazines, so they aren't exactly going to put it on the internet without you paying first. The links are merely meant to direct you to the EGM homepage. Alcar... |
anyway, even if those rates aren't accurate, it's still better to have an 8.5 then a 6.2 ...

Some things in this post could be considered the most minor of spoilers. ;)
Good news, everyone! Genki Katchum over at GameFAQs has kindly scanned in the two-page review. There's a few new screenshots in there, including one of Stranger wielding a Stingbee Blast and maybe a Riot Slug in a snowy environment with a lot of electrical activity flying around, a bounty selection screen, and best of all, a giant image of a Gloktigi! Page 1 | Page 2 The text in the main article is clear enough for me to read, though it strains the old eyes a lot. The heavy image captions are trickier. Apparently the Gloktigi follows you around and fires sticky goo at you, which you need to shake off. In New Yolk City also, a caption mentions that you need to look out for a fortune-telling machine and a black something which I can't make out. All very interesting. |
OMG! the Gloktigi looks AWSOME!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!!
|
I'm not sure I like the idea of 'final bosses' and such. I was hoping only the bounties would be bosses, because in a modern-esque world, business executives don't start having punch-up's with the local terrorist. Of course, the final boss may well not be the final bad guy who may indeed die (or at least be put out of business :p) in the end cinematic.

Good work Max.
Mabey the Octigi is trying to take control of Strangers' body. |

Though its not a perfect 10/10 review, its good to hear an appraisal from someone who has played the whole, finished game and can actually criticise its bad points. Thank goodness they're only minor. |
I'd like to first make a note about how people will view the scores. I know many people will avoid the game becuase it got a "8.5".
And its sad becuase I wish scores were taking off gaming forever. This is more of a personal beef about games than Stranger, becuase when a game gets a score its almost as if it gets labeled on a game and therefore either sells the game or doesn't becuase of a score. But I did read the comments, which is what I'm after (scores have no substance people), and in fact Shoe's wording would of made his score to a 9.5. If anyone actually gives a damn. But quite an informative read with screens. I'm not an EGM fan, probably becuase of how much I hate how Dan Shu ruined the magazine. |
Why is it a review? Shouldn't it be a preview?

Read it again. Its clearly a review and not a preview. They've played the whole game (or at least given that impression) and they give a score. Thus it is a review.
Seeing as SW has gone gold we should expect to see a lot more reviews in the coming months. And hopefully a demo. EDIT: Dualist posted his post after I had already begun writing mine so we kinda say the same thing. |
I know, but the game hasn't even been released. They can still give a score, but it would be a score based on what they've seen previewed. Previews are made for when the game hasn't been released, while reviews are done when the game has been released, and the entire game has been played.

Okay, three posts in three minutes. I'm guessing that Alcar hadn't read mine but I'll repeat what I wrote anyway.
SW has gone gold. Ipso facto it is finished and nothing will change. Thus they can send out copies to reviewers whilst EA is organising the marketing and production of the disks. |

EDIT: LMAO beaten by a minute. :P |
Its defintely a review.
I've always hated having scores for things. Games, films; it just annoys me. Especially as my friend takes the score his film review magazine give films as the word of God. Idiot. |
