TheRaisin 12-31-2004 10:25 AM

What the hell is Anarchy Online?

Hobo 12-31-2004 01:07 PM

Some game thing that takes bloody hours to download. Dammit. *throws rocks at*

Al the Glukkon 12-31-2004 01:09 PM

I've always wanted to join, but I don't know.

Hobo 12-31-2004 01:30 PM

It's free though. but only for a limited time

sligster 12-31-2004 01:49 PM

I heard about this on G4... it's pretty damn cool... I can't dl it, though. Comp sucks.

TheRaisin 12-31-2004 02:55 PM

Again, I pose the question: what the hell is it?

Joshy 12-31-2004 08:51 PM

Its an MMORPG, Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, you control a character and interact with the worlds of other players over the net.

If you go on the site (http://www.anarchy-online.com/) and look at the screenshots, it's easy to tell you wont need much of a computer to play it.

It's all here my good man :).

TheRaisin 01-01-2005 07:01 PM

Cyber-Slig 01-02-2005 10:55 AM

*runs in with a megaphone*

EVE ONLINE IS BETTER!

*runs off dodging projectiles*

Languor 01-02-2005 11:12 AM

This actually looks mildly cool. I've been needing a decent MMORPG that can run on my laptop. The problem is a bad video cards... the laptop versions just aren't up to speed. I'll try this in a bit though.

Does BitTorrent contain any spyware or anything like that? I've heard of it quite a bit, but have never actually tried it...

mawk 01-02-2005 11:14 AM

Play Eve Online. It's better than Anarchy Online.

Is it free? Or at least cheap?

13 bucks a month, and the game client is free. The graphics are amazing and require very little power to look their best - for instance I've run them at full power with a GeForce Ti 4200, and not had problems.

You do need to download the graphics card drivers to get the most out of your card though, because the drivers are what allow you to set the anti-aliasing which smoothes things out.

Languor 01-02-2005 11:33 AM

I'll check it out sometime. I try to avoid games that are "pay-to-play" though. The only pay-to-play game I was ever really into was EQ. Now that is an awesome game.

Rich 01-02-2005 01:09 PM

If Alcar splashed out a lot of cash, and we got some OWI programmers, we could make the Oddworld RPG into something like that. Although when I say "a lot" I mean a very large amount. ;)

sligster 01-02-2005 02:37 PM

if you want a good MMORPG, then play World of Warcraft

although EVA and Anarch are pretty good, too

Yes play World of Warcraft, or FFXI if you want to p2p for a game.

Languor 01-02-2005 04:43 PM

I've got a friend who got WoW for Christmas, and he says it looks pretty awesome. For all of you that play it, I heard it's sort of like EQ. Is that true? I actually thought about trying WoW out... but I'm not sure.

it's a MMORPG, so yes, it is like EVA..... but in Azeroth (planet that Warcraft takes place on)

Cyber-Slig 01-02-2005 06:18 PM

Actually Azeroth is a country/region . I'm gonna buy it when I get my GeForce video card . Will it play with that ?

EQ has got nothing on Eve. ;)

If you do ever play eve though, pick it up and get used to it on your own. Ignore the chat channels unless there is something you really need to ask someone about, because you'll usually get really slanted and strange answers about things like guns and ships.

If anyone else is interested, then here is the link. Lots of screenshots and whatnot on the site to look at. www.eve-online.com

Languor 01-02-2005 07:18 PM

Haha. I had a lot of fun with EQ. Pretty cool game. I didn't get EQ2 though because it costs a ton of money and the system requirements are way too high. Well, not the system requirements... the "recommended" configuration. It's something like 1 GB RAM... 128 or 256 MB video card... extremely fast processor... too much for me.

I'll check out that Eve website later. As for WoW... dunno. Have to check in to that as well and see if it's worth buying and then subscribing for.

Hobo 01-03-2005 04:50 AM

If anyone is on AO look out for me and my crappy soldier called Ectar. I'm the one with a bright orange helmet and trencoat. I hang around Rome Blue a lot:p

A buddy of mine has played EQ2 and said it lasted for 1 day and turned out to be crap. So you're not missing out on anything. :p

BTW. If you're thinking of upgrading or getting a new computer, I have a tip for you.

My newest computer is able to handle almost anything, at 2gb DDR2 dual channel (2 x 1gb sticks) RAM, 256 mb ATi x800 pro Radeon, 3.8J ghz at 800mhz Pentium Northwood (older but better than that shitty new prescott thing) overclocked to 4.2ghz at 1ghz watercooled, and 400gb hard drive. I reckon I probably won't have to replace or upgrade the computer for another 8 years.

It seems excessive but it actually costs less in the long run, and involves far less hassle to run. You get to avoid upgrades completely, you just run it until it's completely outdated, then build a new one. It is expensive though, mine cost me in the region of £2500, which is almost $5000 USD. But if you can work up the money, I recommend doing it instead of gradually upgrading.

Joshy 01-03-2005 02:38 PM

Scores For WoW

Gamespot Review - 9.5

Gamespy - 5/5

MMORPG - 8.8

Scores for EQ2

Gamespot Review 7.8

Gamespy 4/5

MMORPG - 7.4

As you can see WoW is a far superior game to EQ2

For AO

MMORPG- 7.4
Gamespot-7.6
Gamespy-79/100

Holy crap that's expensive. And those specs just seem out of control. Yeah, you'd never have to upgrade for a long, long time, but I dunno if I'm quite willing able to pay that much for a PC. I really don't game as much as I used to... and I really don't game that much (considering I'm 16). I just don't have the time usually.

That must be one badass PC though.

Yeah it's awesomely fast. Even crappy slow windows stuff happens instantly. I love brute force computing. :D

It's funny cause after a while you kinda forget that it takes everyone else time to install things, start up programs, and perform tasks. When you use their computers it's like "how come your computer is so slow?". :p
