Newbies of posting, come here.
New newbies of posting, before you go out there and post, maybe you should watch this flash.

What a load of crap... but it gets the point across
|
I for one, say that we should adopt this flash animation (with the permission of albinoblacksheep) as our posting rules. :D
Damn I wish I had this back when I was a mod... |
Or, we could also read the forum rules, and my suggestive topics.
|
Or we could do nothing orrrrrr die :dead: al done

The rules may be boring, but they keep this place from becoming a completely totalitarian society. I don't think many realise, but without the rules, the Administrative staff would simply do whatever, whenever. With the rules, we set limits on ourselves, and other leaders on the forums.
If there were no rules, I'd have this place so banned, it'd only be me, Abe Babe and hobo talking in here ;) So please be nice to the rules - they've been nice to you ;) Alcar... |

Oh... Nice flash... |

I imagine that about at least 80% or more simply skip the rules/agreement at the beginning, only to learn the rules by breaking them later and discovering the consequences. I think that this format could possibly stem that to around 50% at most. Thus reducing moderator workload. I propose that in stead of the rules at the beginning of the registration process, you sit through a flash video outlining the rules, before it lets you continue with the registration process. All in favour, point a gun at Alcar and force him to implement it. ;) |
I personally would skip a flash movie about rules, man I didn't even watch the one linked to in this post. Most new users will most likely know the drill with forums, and will know how to act appropriately on forums & to other users.
Sorry, flash movies do not appeal to everyone. And I think a flash movie about rules is a silly idea :) I prefer the written rules, easy & simple to follow. They've always worked.. Btw, hi. Everyone have a nice Xmas? :D |

Not every forum is the same either. Some of them have really very different rules. So often users will come to a forum thinking that what they are doing is ok just because "they were allowed to do it on blizzforums.com" or whatever. And the flash movie wouldn't allow you to skip it. You would have to sit through it, or at least wait for it to end before it would allow you to carry on. One forum I used to post on actually had a QUESTIONNAIRE! The success of your registration depended on the answers you gave, and if you answered too many incorrectly, you were denied access. BTW I'm not trying to push my idea really hard I'm just trying to get you to understand it better before you tell me that it sucks. :) |
