Great find Xav!

That Vykker isn't drawn by Farzad anymore

it's because Farzad doesn't work at OWI anymore...
and it had to be designed (at least the clothes) for the new game

Yes I know that.

I like the way outlaws look.

Awesome Xav! (*reports thread on OWJ*)
My fave piece there has to be the vykker, followed by the moolah... :D

Xavier 12-24-2004 12:46 PM

*uploads hi ress version of the vykker...
for the rest, just sing up :D

Alcar 12-24-2004 12:51 PM

Wow! Exceptional discovery! :D

I absolutely love this stuff! I'd say the Vykker is also my favourite.

That vykker look's old to me, mabey that's why it has that green skin, and wrinkles under it's eyes. The cloths seem to be old fashioned.

I wonder why you don't give credit to OddBlog... :fuzemb:

Anyway those are my favourite artworks too!

Esus 12-24-2004 12:56 PM

I didn't see your asking for it to be directed to Oddblog :p And I had to re-write certain parts because I initially thought they were only available in this thread through you personally. *edits*

Xavier 12-24-2004 12:59 PM

No problem :D
I simply put "credit goes to OddBlog" in my post, that's my way to ask to other reporters to link to my site when they report what I found and posted on the forums first.

EDIT: I like the new design of your site very much!
*goes mention it on OddBlog :p

Xavier 12-25-2004 10:13 AM

I know this is dubble post but I simply had to mention this:
The Vykker has no stiches on his legs!!!

The Vykker has no stiches on his legs!!!

Maybe the Vykker is younger than the ones in MO, hence the absence of leg stitches and pinky skin and those yucky visible veins.

Anyway, good find and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Volsung 12-28-2004 12:24 PM

Holy bejeesus. The artwork. It is...the words...Pleasurable adjectives go here. The goodness, the coolness...the sheer oddness of it all. Sweet.

On another note, this is the first time I've been truly struck by how "human" Stranger seems. It's probably just the postures, though. The videos are quite different. (Do the chippunks even HAVE legs?")

1) well yeah he can look humanoid, but he has some monkey, lion, horses parts too :D
2) well hum, I don't know

Stranger 12-28-2004 01:03 PM

Awesome concepts thanks =D

Alcar 12-28-2004 01:22 PM

Perhaps creating a humanoid protagonist was purposefully done. We know Oddworld are now looking at doing Citizen Siege, which puts us directly on a future planet Earth. But perhaps they tried to incorporate that into Stranger. I understand Oddworld Inhabitants have said they'd never put a human on Oddworld, but never mentioned anything about humanoids.

While I enjoy the new images, I still can't understand how an obviously avian species like the Clakker females were designed to have breasts like a mammalian creature. Since female birds don't have breasts, why would they? They would have no need for lactation, as I'm pretty sure that birds can go right to solid foods when they hatch.
Ah, well. I don't know why this is racking (haha, "rack.") my brain so much. I'm a man of science, and the little things get to me.

On another note, I like the new Vykker surgeon. He looks good in a pale color, like an undertaker or something. I kind of wish all Vykkers looked like that, it suits them. The tophat looks awesome, along with his enhanced-view monicle (tri-nicle?). I'm not too sure why he doesn't take better care of his clothes, he looks like a hobo (no relation to our quite possibly beloved Mod.)

In response to Xav's second post and the various stranger poses, is it just me or does his crossbow keep switching arms? I mean, left arm or right arm, not "whatever." We've seen it on the left arm, it stays on the left arm. Got it, OWI? Good. Glad we could have this talk. :p :D

Yeah, he does, near the bottom of his right leg. And I think he's still close to Humphrey and Irwin's ages, just really pale.

-Do the chippunks even HAVE legs?

-Abe was quite human-like in build as well. Same placement of bones, most of the same muscles, the head and limbs were a little different, as well as a few obvious anatomical differences, but if not for them then he wouldn't be much of an Abe. Munch, however, was less familiar in shape, but that could have been to put a contrast between he and Abe.

-I believe they do have tiny little front legs. You have to wonder, though, what's with the trend of small, rotund creatures on Oddworld. (Biologically speaking, not gameplay-wise. I already know what purpose they serve in the game, don't worry.) They seem to serve no other purpose besides being perilously hurled at people by a Steef, and franlky folks, that ain't much of a life.

The same as on Earth. Buggerall. Or to perhaps distribute seeds of plants.

(like Squirrels burying nuts) or to provide food for others (Slugs and Slurgs)

Volsung 12-29-2004 08:42 AM

I was thinking of Abe when I mentioned how human stranger was, and I decided not to mention it in relation simply because I was talking about the stances of stranger. He seems very "action-hero" in the way he stands in the drawings, aand I just wondered if that was part of the decision to make this game more appealing to the masses. Mudokons are relatable, but even when they stand still you know they aren't human, (perhaps its the relation of neck and head) Or it could just be that Strangers "Oddness" is masked by his clothes, Muds are half-naked at all times. In any case, I may not have made the distinction between humanoid and human-like in the manner I'm thinking of.

And its the back legs I'm curious about, I've yet to see evidence of them. But I could have overlooked. And Rich seems the closest to an answer on the rotundness problem.

As for only steef hurling them at folks, I've been wondering. If there are purchasable upgrades that fit directly onto the wildlife, doesn't that mean someone else has seen the ability of the animals to be used as cannon fodder? Just a thought.

Fuzzle Guy 12-30-2004 03:54 AM

When I looked at these yesterday they weren't oddworld, I wonder why that was? must have been someting wrong with the IMG.

I like the Moolah and the Vykker.

Wil 01-01-2005 06:20 AM

I'm still loving the Moolah, and the Live Ammo sketches are adorable. I've gained a new respect for the Thudslug, seeing how it can roll up and unfurl - quite nifty! The Vykker Doc is great, too. His costume is suited to the American frontier design theme. I'm still not digging the remarkable number of humanoid and fuzzball species in the game, though. That includes Clakkerz.

Otherwise, a great find Xav.

...just in defence of OWI for a minute... ;) (and you could ask the same thing of the newts. ;) ) Pigeons feed their young on milk, for a short while, although it's made from the lining of their crop/gizzard/whatever (think: like seabird feeding its young on regurgitated, partially digested (?) fish) and there's a bird on the American plains (a sort of grouse, I think) that has air-sacs on its chest that look similar to breasts. :P Mind you, it's the male of the grouse that has them, and for displaying.

The way I tend to think of alien species is that - well, they're aliens, Earthly constraints would be unlikely to force a species along similar lines - who says a bird WOULDN'T evolve along similar lines to a mammal? I mean, if you go far enough back, birds and mammals came from the same stock, and then you have convergent evolution... blahblahblah... And just because they LOOK like breasts doesn't MAKE them breasts, they could just be fatty deposits from a sedentary lifestyle, like men can develop. *shrugs*

Or maybe it's just to make them more amusing and rotund. :)

Fuzzle Guy 01-05-2005 08:37 AM

I have reported these on Abe Mania
