Wow, great stuff. CVG are right, I'd wager even Oddworld non-fans would be hard-pressed not to enjoy this interview, with Lorne's great insights into the video game industry, creativity, and the morals in our world. The full interview also elaborates on Citizen Siege's place in criticising our world as opposed to Oddworld's efforts to do so, so if you're still wary about CS (and I practically hope you are), then Lorne does make it sound better, giving it its place.

Its still up in the air whether Citizen Siege will be the next game after Stranger or not.

On the one hand, there were strong rumours that EA had already signed OWI to make Stranger 2.
On the other hand, why would they announce another game if they were not intending to make it any time soon?

I don't think we will CS anytime soon, It is my experiance that Oddwolrd is top prority, plus why would they want to change something that has made them so much money, people just don't do it. I think the next games will Oddworld related, plus I got this feeling that when SW comes out people are going to go crazy over it, because really this is Xbox detail at its finest. I think CS is more of a director idea more than a game in the works. But this is just what I think and i could be wrong, but it just doesn't seem like that would really be possiblity in the near future but more a game to be done once Oddworld is done (which may be never looking at all the games they want to put out. CS is a director idea the same way the habitales (read the back of your AO manuel if you don't know what this is) are a directors idea that may eventually find there way into public gaming

Oddworld has been top priority for OWI until now, but until now they've never had anything else to produce. I also don't think OWI are afraid of working on Citizen Siege after Oddworld has brought them so much success. Lorne Lanning has commented on how the videogame industry seems to strive on familiarity and that it's hard to bring out new IPs when publishers (such as Microsoft) are so happy to bring out new games that rely on the same old characters and gameplay over those that features new casts and settings (such as Stranger). When Lorne made these comments, he may have had more on his mind than just Stranger's Wrath.

On the other hand, it is just a developer's idea at the moment, and there's been nothing said on the viability or certainty of the project. Lorne often hints at what the future will bring for Oddworld and OWI, and the sequel to Stranger was just such an example. As far as I'm aware, EA said nothing on the matter, but Lorne hinted that concepts for a Stranger 2 were being discussed with them. I hope Lorne doesn't one day get bitten on the behind, metaphorically, for these predictions. I've already found people who think that ‘Squeek’ was just an early name for ‘Steef’.

Just as long as he doesn't go down the Peter Molyneaux route and hype a game so much that he has to apologise for it not being good enough after the release.

Lorne is such a cool guy. That was great interview. I especially liked his point about those "war in Iraq" games that have been coming out. I have the same stance as he does on that matter.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to whatever OWI produces next. Stranger 2, CS...it's all good.

Great interview :)

As for the discussion now at hand, I believe Stranger's sequel will appear next. Unless OWI does switch to the Xbox 2 for their next release - then I'm not so sure. Perhaps the Xbox 2 will have what Lorne considers ample technology to continue the Quintology?

As for Citizen Siege, I agree with Max. It is merely a developer's idea at the moment.

Alcar...

now I'm realy curious about what's going to come after Stranger's Wrath..
I guess we will have to wait 2 years, like we had to after Munch.

that interview was realy good!

Wil 12-22-2004 03:57 PM

Lorne has been issuing high praise on the Stranger Engine, saying how it will significantly reduce the production time for the next game/games. It would be such a wasted opportunity if this was never taken advantage of - I think that makes a Stranger sequel fairly likely.

Xavier 12-23-2004 06:03 AM

Yeah Max... I hope you are right...
and I realy hope they will reach the one game a year speed :D

The Shadowman 12-23-2004 01:22 PM

Yeha Xbox 2 sounds lke the kind of ample technology, cause look at how good Stranger looks, imagine xbox 2
