Earthsea

I'm interested to know if anyone watched the Earthsea miniseries and whether or not they thought it was as terrible as I did. It was like they went out of their way to make it s uck. They got every single thing wrong. They even got the names wrong. My God it was awfull. I've had watery bowel movements that I've enjoyed more.

I watched the first 10 minutes and could tell it was a stinker. Dear dude, can't people come up with original ideas? I mean...prophecies and crap are waaaay overused.

Anyway, I turned it off after 10 minutes. It didn't impress me.

The books are brilliant, though. They had absolutely nothing to do with this movie. The author, Ursula K. LeGuin actually spoke out against the movie. That's how bad it is.

That is so lame. As a writter, I'd hate it if my works were put into a movie without my creative control.

Can you supply a guide for the ignorant including what the book is about and how the movie screwed it up? Don't hold back, give us a good rant.

There is just too much. It isn't even the same story. It's characters from the books put in completely new and completely made up situations.

I watched the show having never read a single Earthsea book. My sister and mom kept pointing out how there were gaping differences. My sister and I also focused on the poor production quality-- e.g. a troop of soldiers running into a small cloud of thick fog and instantly losing their way, despite the fact that they were on a straight bridge no more than thirty feet from the people they were trying to attack.

The one cool thing, though, was the Nameless One that gets released and takes on the form of Skiortch the sailor and he looks really awesome. And the thing where What's-His-Face the Chubby pours sugar on the table in these little clumps and then they become little mini islands in this little tiny sea. That was cool.

All-in-all, major suckiness.
