How to ban?

I heard that in this forums, the starter of the thread can ban someone from the thread. How to do it?

I don't know where you heard that, but that ain't the case here. The only people that can ban members are Abe Babe and I. That's for a good reason, as I can imagine the caos that would ensue should any member be able to ban any other member :p

It's a vB hack. What it does is it changes the "Create new thread" screen by adding an extra textbox, and any usernames you put in there can't access that thread. It's good if anyone is being an ass in your thread, but if there is ever someone who isn't liked on the forum, everyone blocks them from every thread they ever make, which is like an unauthorised forumwide ban. That only happens (in my experience anyway) on larger forums, but it also happens between two or more members who have been involved in an argument, which could happen here.

Exactly. Take the religion debate in Off-Topic Discussion, or other priceless debates in the forums' history. People get annoyed at others, and no doubt, people will ban others. Which is why we leave banning up to the Administrative staff. Even then, banning isn't a common thing.

You can always add a member to your ignore list

This would cause major problems and fights. It's a waste of time. However, killing spammers is not a waste of time! Load your weapons!

I think we should have it as an automatic system then again..

Trust me Alpha, don't request that this be brought in. You'd be the first one on everyone's lists.

Alcar 02-11-2005 02:09 AM

We'd never allow it anyway ;)
