Old and New
Warning Spoilers!!!! http://www.xboxyde.com/news_1214_fr.html credit goes to oddblog I'm trying to find those pictures without the logo Spoiler: Gloktigi inside!!!! |
The gloktigi looks awesome. I really love Oddworld cg movies.
|
Gloktigi? Boooo-baaaah....!
...well, come on, it does look like something off Boobah. ;) Not saying it's not cool, just... yeah. |
Reminds me of a character from Lilo and Stitch... ;)
|
I think the gloktigi looks absolutly awesome!!!
I wonder if he is parasiting a creature or not... |
Hey, did you guys see a wild steef head(not sure if it's Stranger himself) mounted on a wall...just like the bad ending of MO?
-oddguy |
we are not sure anymore the species are called Steefs
I think that Gloktigi hates those kinds of animals and I don't think this is an end movie |
Yeah, I didn't think they'd make an identical bad ending(if Stranger's Wrath even has one). Just making an observation.
Anyway...shouldn't this thread be in the Spoiler forum? -oddguy |
well, this as news report should be here
but discussing the screens should be in the spoiler section |
My eyes have expirienced multiple orgasms. Now my vision is blurry. Thanks alot.
The only problem I have, is that all of the silly little minions look exactly alike. |
Wow, just like Sligs.
|
Well the sligs don't individually cloth themselves:p
Modern technology could at least stand to randomize a few different variations on an individual. Ripped/dirty, ones without hats, etc... It's not like outlaw bosses have masses of identical uniforms lying around to hand out. |
Yeah, just like the clakkers(are they even called that???). They look exactly the same, well apart from them being female or male. I dunno, the enviroment doesn't look very different. Are there going to be different enviroments??
Anyway, i love that Gloctigi :). Is he going to be the Bad-guy? i mean the REAL bad-guy? |
There will be plenty of environments, T-nex! The scorched waterless plains and dustbowls we've already seen, river valleys, lush forests, snow-capped mountains, underground caves, sprawling industrial complexes, and even a sunken ship!
And the main antagonist might be Mr Sekto, as named but not described by Raymond Swanland in his designer diary. Whether that's the fellow or not is unknown. |
Oh wel scuse me... it's just that all those screenshots looks like it's the same enviroment... Does anyone have screenshot other than just brown and grey mountains???
|
Yeah, most screenshots have been of the first region of the game, which is that environment.
Here's a lush forest. Here's the Mongo Valley. This is part of Pack Rat Palooka's junkyard home, I should think. An underground catacomb. More underground goodness within. From this page you can download the Stingbees in Action video, which shows a snowy environment. Enjoy! |
Oh ok, thank you. I was just afraid that it would be the same as MO. You know, the same two enviroments again and again.
|
That Gloktigi looks absolutely stunning. Though the environment he is in is even more intriguing, in that it is rather modern looking, and he is wearing a suit.
Good find Xavier. Alcar... |
Awsome, the Gloktigi is very exciting to see. Great images! Seems to have some depht.
But I still don't understand whats up with the CG graphics, it looks like it has a bit of the gameplay graphics in it, why? |
No it doesn't. Some of the in-game movies are real time cinematics (such as when he leaves the first town and is given his crossbow, or when he talks to the outlaw who is scared of Boils Booty). That means that they're using the in-game models, like rts games do. A lot of games do this nowadays. However, Stranger also has some pre-rendered cinematics, such as the opening movie, his transformation, the ending movie, and that one with the gloktigi (dunno it thats the ender or not...).
|
No, I'm talking about the cinematics(Phone call), not in the acual real time. If you look very very carefully, the background looks like it's from the real time graphics.
|
Some of the movies are pre-rendered mixed with game-engine backgrounds. Lorne said he was using this system in some of the movies. It was in an article that I can't find now, but most of us read it.
Anyway, here's a prime example of the mixed mediums... http://media.xboxyde.com/gallery/pub...5/537_0037.jpg As you can see...the character in the shot, as well a the phone and I think the beam there, are pre-rendered. But look in the bacground. The wall, the barrel...those are game engine graphics. -oddguy |

Things like that screen you've got there are fully pre-rendered cinematics, possibly using in-game backgrounds, but the actual movie is pre-rendered. If you look as real time strategy games, such as Age of Mythology, they included many cinematics within the gameplay. These cinematics used pre-made animations (obviously, like every movement in the game), and all the cinematics were real time. of course, the black bars come up, but everything that happened in the cinematic was 'triggered' at certain points in the cinematic. For example, as three second the main character may start dialogue one, playing the sound file of that dialogue, and simultaneous putting up the subtitles and playing the particular animation. These real time cinematic were able to be made by the player (through a very complicated means) in the editor, because they were real time and just used a lot of commands to make characters do what they wanted. I've made some of these myself, and I can tell you that it has taken hundreds of 'takes' to get all the screen characters to do everything at the right time. One of my major problems, I remember, was making the character face the right direction at the right time, but I digress... |
A great big pile of 'Holy Crap!'.
Amazing pics, especially that Steef head. |
I remember reading an article like that as well. It was part of Oddworld's ingenious coding and overall design. By mixing movies with in-game graphics, and in-game techniques, you can make the movies and manipulate the movies a lot faster. Instead of spending hours manipulating a simple mistake, maybe in calculating the time one does an action, you can change a piece of code in under a minute, and it'll be done there and then.
Very nifty if you ask me. Alcar... |
Its called machinima. Same thing as the Red vs Blue people do (though more complex, of course)
|
Here's that article where Lorne talks about machinima.

By the way, thankyou oddguy for that link. I couldn't find it :p Alcar... |

The rendered textures look very nice though. |
