Sad news....

A tragedy that happend in Columbus, Ohio on 12/08/04 in a Damage Plan concert left 5 people dead...DIMEBAG DERRELL, Guitar player for damage plan, Nathan bray, a 23-year-old fan from Grove City; Erin A. Halk, a 29-year-old ; and Jeff Thompson, a 40-year-old . Wounded in the shooting were Chris Paluska, and John Brooks.

Nathan gale, the shooter rushed across the stage that Damage plan was performing on and grabbed Darrell , firing several shots into his head from a Beretta 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, he than shot 4 others and wounded 2 before someone shot him with a shotgun.

This really is heart breaking, they where musicians just trying to play for thier fans, this topic is dedicated to those who died on the 8th from this tragedy :fuzsad:

SeaRex 12-10-2004 06:37 PM

It was a cop that shot him, last I heard.

People are crazy.

I mean, I wasn't a big Pantera or Damage Plan fan or anything... but damn. People are f*cking crazy.

a flock of seagulls 12-10-2004 06:54 PM

heh, a barretta is a sniper rifle, not a handgun. but i dont really know guns. last time i checked there was a popular war game with a barretta and it was a one-kill sniper rifle that was really n00bish.

Disgruntled Intern 12-10-2004 10:16 PM

"I wasn't a big Pantera or Damage Plan fan.."

Yeah, damageplan sucked...But how can you not like Pantera? I've seen even the toughest gangsta mo fo's get down to 'walk'.

Come on Luke!

Facsimile 12-11-2004 01:35 AM

I was crushed as soon as I heard the news. Obviously, I made my signature as a memory to Dimebag. I was just in shock for so long.
And today I head the whole story: The gunman went up to Dimebag as he was playing, put him in a headlock (not aggressively, but as a friend would do) and he shot him about five times in the face.
This is a terrible tragedy, and I can say I shed a few tears when I heard that part.

Mojo 12-11-2004 02:54 AM

I also was schocked when I heard the news. I am a guitarist, and a former singer myself, and I have also preformed in a club. And with the current state of social terror in the Netherlands, that could've be me, or one of my friends.

And a Baretta is a handgun. Ask Ferill.

dripik 12-11-2004 04:37 AM

That's sad. Especially for the fans. :fuzsad:

And yes, Beretta is a handgun. A famous Hungarian singer shot himself in the head by accident with that weapon. So many people were mourning.

Leeum 12-11-2004 05:10 AM

I feel sorry for DD's brother, seeing his brother getting shot to shit. Just proves there should be more security at gigs, those big guys with the suits aren't enough, for popular bands perhaps armed security is an option.

Heh, I read something like that, in some factual magazine.

Some dudes watched some film, and in that film, they were playing Russian Roulette (with a revolver). So they was gonna re-enact it. With a semi-automatic handgun...

Oh, I fully recognize Pantera's awesomeness.

Just wasn't a big fan.

Barret make .50 cal Sniper Rifles.

Barretta make handguns mostly, they are Italian.

This is horrible news, makes me sick to the core.

It was in a night club. It wasn't a normal type of show, which is why there were no metal detectors up and stuff.

Security armed with firearms would be a huge liability. Not only that, but who's to say that a fan couldn't overtake said security gaurd and take his gun?

My point is that the world is full of gun-toting maniacs, and unfortunately, you really don't know who they are until they've put a few bullets in a persons skull.

There is no such company as "Barretta". But there is a company called Beretta.

Beretta make all types of guns in near equal amounts, and they have an American subsidiary, who made probably the most recogniseable modern handgun to this day, the m9 elite.

http://www.berettausa.com/product/pr...ifles_main.htm

As you can see, Beretta DO make and sell rifles. Lots of rifles at that. The weapon this guy was shot with could well have been a rifle given the popularity of hunting in America.

TheRaisin 12-12-2004 03:24 PM

Sorry, but what's the corrolation between Damage Plan and Pantera? I'm a little confused.

So the guy who shot the guy was a FAN?! Jesus. Maybe we should drop the word "fan" and just go back to calling them "fanatics". This sounds a lot like what happened to John Lennon.

Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.

AquaticAmbi 12-12-2004 04:58 PM

Very sad... I mean, I wasn't a fan either, but being shot in the face sucks for anyone.

Hmm.. On the news the other morning, I thought I heard that the band member who was shot was either in the cult or was the leader of one. I may be totally mistaken, so forgive me if I am. But if it's true, was his killer in the cult with/following him? I wouldn't see a point in the news mentioning that if he wasn't. Craziness...

Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.

The correlation is the now dead guitarist, who left Pantera and joined Damage Plan, followed by a wake of Pantera fans.

Pantera broke up and the guitarist and drummer, Dimebag Darrell and his brother Vinnie Paul, formed Damageplan.

I don't think this is correct... But I can't say for certain, but I really don't think so.
However the gunman was utterly and totally obsessed with Pantera. You know, the scary kind of obsessed. Maybe that's what they were meaning.

Statikk HDM 12-13-2004 05:17 AM

This is insane! I mean, what was the point of killing Dimebag? This makes no sense at all. I hope Gale fries for this violent, pointless murder.

Majic 12-13-2004 01:31 PM

If by "fries", you mean "Gets fatally shot with a shotgun", then he already has.

Abeguy 12-13-2004 02:09 PM

Yeah, the leader at my synagougue was once a big fan of his

he told us what happen

DarkHoodness 12-13-2004 03:28 PM

I haven't really been paying attention to this, but just something I heard on the radio show 2Sence:
Apparently the shootings happend on exactly the 24th Anniversary of perhaps the most well known assasination in the world. Former Beetles star John Lennon was shot dead on the 8th of December 1980:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...00/2536321.stm

Weird, huh? Maybe this is some really bad co-incidence or something.
- DH

Facsimile 12-14-2004 12:33 AM

Yeah I heard that as well. It is indeed odd. I think it was just a coincidence, as that's just when Damageplan happened to play at that club.

mawk 12-14-2004 02:17 AM

If they're saying the cop shot the guy with a shotgun while he had a hostage in headlock, then how did the cop avoid blowing the hostage to bits too? Even at a relatively close range you're still looking at a 12 inch wide spread at least...

Mojo 12-14-2004 07:57 AM

Hm, speaking of such coincidence, 911 days after 9/11, a Dutch controversial director was shot, and stabbed to death. It is believed one of the reasons he was butchered for, was his latest film, "Submission", about the supression of females in the Islam.

And dude, the one that was taken hostage was shot to death by a couple of rounds in the head. After that the cops shot the killer.

I remember reading it was a shotgun. Or maybe it wasn't. There's little twists and unique details to pretty much every story you read.

Statikk HDM 12-14-2004 01:38 PM

Fries as in "roasts in Hell." A synagogue leader a fan of Pantera? Come again?
Anyhow, after the news came on a somewhat-Corporate radio station in Watertown decided to play Pantera tracks pretty much non-stop for hours. That was the first time I listened to the same radio station for longer than half an hour without bitching about how poorly managed radio stations are. When the well-known tracks like Floods, I'm Broken, Sandblasted Skin, Cemetary Gates, etc. came on I was cranking the radio.

TheRaisin 12-14-2004 07:03 PM

A sad day for sanity in the United States. It never inhabits more than like three quarters of the population, but at least most of the time it doesn't yield such tragic results, or, for that matter, such wide-felt effects.

I could not call myself a fan, but I am sorry it happened.
