The Mask

I'm sure you've all heard of 'The Mask' by seeing the hit 1994 movie.

But did anyone actually read the COMICS? The comics were before the movie and were the birth of The Mask and all his hosts (Stanley Ipkiss, Lt. Kellaway, etc.)

Once again, has anyone read one? I have. In my opinion the comics are much better than the movie.

The movie should have been like the comics, with the gore and dark humour. But, what can ya do?

Also, don't even mention anything about Son Of The Mask (2005). It is going to suck. Suck so bad that it will suck the whole movie industry into its shitty bowels, then digest it and crap it out.

(By the way, does anyone have a site with scans of The Mask comics? It's been a while since I read one).

Oddish 12-03-2004 10:26 AM

Never heard of the comics.

Why is Son Of The Mask going to suck?

Okay, maybe I went a bit too far with that. I mean, I just think it won't be good.
But who knows?

Anyway, The Mask comics were made by Dark Horse Comics. Go to the following link to find out more on The Mask comics:

I'm currently looking for comic scans. As soon as I find 'em, I'll let you know.

Hey, that's an offense to filmmakers like me, although yeah, it'll probably suck!

Hardly...
Yeah, the Son of Mask will suck. From the looks of the teaser, if will certainly suck.

The Mask was great!! But the Son of Mask........um.........that is a whole other question. I think it looks, oh how do I say it, craptastic lol

Al the Glukkon 12-03-2004 03:16 PM

Why do they even make movies like that?Rhetorical question

Alcar 12-03-2004 03:57 PM

I haven't heard anything about the Son of the Mask, but then again, Australia is behind in the movies by about half a year. Though I can't imagine the movie being all that good, maybe it'll rival The Mask a tad. Haven't seen the comics either, though the precursors to most movies, games, or shows (etc) are usually always better.

I haven't seen an awful lot :|

I haven't read the comics. But then I've never seen a comic, so...
I liked the original movie.
I had heard of a sequel. Straight off I knew it would be horrible.
It's kind of like drugs:
"Okay kids, lets get this straight.
Don't. Do. Sequels."

Fez 12-05-2004 02:21 AM

Its gonna suck, badly. The Mask is one of those great films that you just dont do a sequel of.

Martian 12-05-2004 07:27 AM

Well, they should have done a sequel, but it should have followed the storyline of the comics.

In the comics, Stanley's girlfriend, named Kathy (I think), put on the Mask and killed Stanley. This is what they should have done for the sequel - the story of Kathy wearing the Mask.

Now I really REALLY do not know where they came up for the idea for Son of the Mask, or what kind of moron thought "Hey! Let's make a sequel to The Mask with a stupid CGI baby dancing". Terrible.

Just shows how bad films are getting this lately. Hollywood need some new ideas. VERY GOOD ideas.

I have one thing left to say to those film-making companies:
If You're Going To Do A Sequel, Do It Right.

Disgruntled Intern 12-05-2004 09:45 AM

Dark Horse puts out nothing but shitty comics....And the mask series was no different.

The movie was crap, the comics were crap, and the sequel is sure to follow suit.

TheRaisin 12-05-2004 12:08 PM

Dark Horse published MegaTokyo. Shut up.

I don't really see how The Mask is in any way different from the rest of Jim Carrey's crappy typecast performances (although he has, in later years, taken some better roles). I thought it was great the first time I saw it, in the early years of elementary school. It sucks.

A sequel to The Mask, I'm sure, will be equally crappy.

I honestly can't stand most comics. I've only found a few that I like, and they're usually Japanese manga. And those, of course, are either a little stupid because they're aimed at a young audience, or completely perverted because the people that make them have NO SHAME!

There is one exception, however. MegaTokyo! Volume Three to be released in the near future under the DarkHorse lable! :D

Disgruntled Intern 12-05-2004 04:04 PM

The only decent Jim Carrey movies are 'The Majestic' and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'.

Everything else he's done has been utter crap.

Nate 12-05-2004 04:45 PM

The Truman Show was pretty good. Though admittedly it works mostly because of everyone else's performances. Ed Harris is great in that one. *thinks* Actually Ed Harris is great in everything.

SeaRex 12-05-2004 08:48 PM

I agree. I also liked the Truman Show. I haven't seen The Majestic...

I think Jim is pretty much dead though (not literally, obviously). Like Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey was just a flash in the pan. He's stale.

Disgruntled Intern 12-05-2004 09:09 PM

Interesting that both Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler had such mediocre careers...Yet both starred in one brilliant movie each.

You know, Eternal Sunshine and Punch Drunk Love.

Nate 12-05-2004 09:25 PM

I've always said that the right director can make the worst actor do magic. eg Leonardo Dicaprio in Romeo + Juliet. Thats the only one I can come up with off the top of my head but there's more I've noticed over the years.

Disgruntled Intern 12-05-2004 09:53 PM

His finest role was in 'What's eating Gilbert Grape?'

I mean he played a retard with a heart of gold for christs sake.

Nate 12-06-2004 01:54 PM

yeah, but a) I haven't seen more than five minutes of Gilbert Grape and b) I'm talking after the point that he stopped trying to act and started coasting. That point probably being the Academy Award nomination for GG.

Statikk HDM 12-10-2004 01:27 PM

Jim Carrey is a rubber-faced hack and very little of what Sandler has done is tolerable. When will these twats go away? On topic, though: The Son of Mask is going to be horrid. Also if they were going to make a sequel why wait a freaking decade? This seems like something that Carrey and others had to be begged to do.

Disgruntled Intern 12-10-2004 10:17 PM

I liked Rubber Face, actually.
