2+2=Dam Inspiration
You know how you can have all the information you need to have a stunning realisation but it doesn't happen for a few months, until its stewed in your brain enough that ideas start seeping across and melding into one another?
[I don't know if that makes sense or not, so I'll just get to the point] I'll give you the information. See if you can come up with the conclusion before the end of the post. 1) Dam. Big Dam. Dam bad. 2) Natives in conical straw hats (can you see where I'm going here?) 3) Art of OW book spoiler: the dam has an oriental style. (have you got it yet) Conclusion: Lorne is referencing the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in China. This is a huge 2,150m long and 185m high hydroelectric dam on the world's third longest river. Its budget is $US25 billion although some people are saying it will end up costing $75 billion - in either case the world's most expensive construction project. Its extremely controversial because the lake formed will be 600km long and will displace up to 1.9 million people. It will also have major environmental and cultural/archaeological impact. Curses, I should have seen the connection earlier. Especially seeing as I was discussing this particular topic (the Yangtze construction) not too long ago. Good spotting Nate_dog_woof, and let's hope that Lorne acknowledges this as an inspiration when he is asked this oh-so-often question.

Never spotted that, but then even though you've just mentioned this Yangtze river, it only rings the smallest of bells. If it's true, then it's a brave parody on the part of Lorne and OWI - I commend them for it.

true true NDW...
plus lorne was talking about "displaced people that were under the threat of genocide" in the latest interview displaced because their homes are now under the water, and genocide, well because nobody cares and let them die |
