Don't believe the hype: Metal Saviours are Damning rock.
Man, I'm fed up with all the hype around bands like Lamb of God, Killswitch, Engage, Shadow's Fall, etc. The songs are lame, corporate b.s. and it is most certainly not metal. First off, the solos(If the bands even play them) are complete shit, and not just on the guitars. The drums are repetitive, with nothing dynamic going on. No fills, no time switch-ups, no skull-crushing breakdowns, just mediocre blast-beat after blast beat. It sucks. The guitar-playing is just a notch above competent and the songs are almost devoid of riffing and lead work. The bass work is also a cut above average but nothing to right home to mommy about. Not only that, the press is eating it up. Metal Hammer, Revolver, AP, radio stations, newspapers are coming out with lists of top metal CDs of 2004 and it is suckering people into buying CDs they know next to nothing about. I know because I fell into the trap and bought a Killswitch Engage CD and it blew. Lucky for me, I bought the remastered Symbol of Salvation CD and a friend of mine turned me onto In Flames so it wasn't a complete loss.

I haven't heard these bands, as I only either download music or buy CDs, therefore I don't listen to the radio, but my friend has similar views to you about them.
Have you taken this idea of a thread anywhere else? It might be more effective than this board, considering people here aren't that into metal. |
The problem is that 90 percent of metal has always been corporate bs. I don't think it's fair to condemn these bands because they don't follow a formula that you enjoy but I will agree with you that they do suck.

I brought it up for 2 reasons
1: My roomate is infatuated with "nu-metal" and it ticks me off. 2: I don't want other people to blow their money on a lousy, overhyped product. This thread isn't unreasonable. If someone bought a lousy videogame, book, etc. that a lot of people were saying was good I'd expect a warning. |
Oh, I agree. Numetal is just about the worst garbage on the market. I didn't mean to give you the impression that I thought it was an unreasonable thread.

Only in the last few years. |
How old were you in the 80's?

I'm very sorry to have displeased you. |
WOW! I think you may have gotten the wrong impression on that. I wasn't trying to be an ass. I'm just saying that growing up in the 80's I was submerged in the most terrible cockrock ever made. Metal was much worse in the 80's than it is now. I'm not displeased with you and you should probably at least put your cd's on ebay instead of throwing them out. No. No need to thank me. It's my pleasure.:)
|
Yeah, I'm not going to do that, it was more of an exaggeration for effect. Please do give some examples though. Because the only thing I can think of what you are speaking of is hair metal, and that's rock anyway, so it's not counted.
|
Metallica-The most overrated band ever. Megadeth. Judas Priest. Anything Sebastian Bach ever touched. and many more that I have tried to score from my memory.
|
Megadeth and Metallica BAD in the 80s and early 90s? Are we talking about the same bands? To make sure that we are indeed talking about the same bands I'm cranking Rust in Peace and Ride the Lightning on my drive home. The whole period from about 1980 to 1991 was like the golden age of metal and I don't see how anyone could hate it.

Mindless drivel. It's music that tries so hard to be important it ends up being obsolete.

Exactly. It's just given that extra weight because it's true.:)
