Oddworld Heads?

As some of you know I am doing an Oddworld Evolution film, and I need a Scrab head (Just one that I can fit on a pole, I will do the body digital), A Mudokon Costume, A puppet of a crawling Slig (Movable Mouth) and a Glukkon Costume, does anyone know how I can go about amking these? Cheap and easy Ideas would be great, althoug all Ideas would be appreceated, thankyou

Well you get bits of long carbord and cut 'em into long pieces, and make the main shap of the head, and then put news paper all over it and and put glue all over it so it can be stucked and hard. You gonna have to make e'm

Fuzzle Guy 11-14-2004 10:59 AM

I know I have to make em', I was asking how I could make em, of cause, I need them to look realisting, so maybe Paper Mache isn't the best of Ideas

Oddish 11-14-2004 11:17 AM

I don't have any ideas.

Fuzzle Guy 11-15-2004 09:10 AM

Thanks anyway, anybody else?

T-nex 11-15-2004 09:14 AM

what about clay? Clay is great, and easy to work with and make details

Fuzzle Guy 11-15-2004 09:25 AM

Thankyou, I'll look into it, just so you know, I can do a scrab head like that, but can I really do a mask?

T-nex 11-15-2004 10:58 AM

Well, i guess... but you could also use gypsum/plaster (whatever it's called)... We used to make plaster masks at our school. But we don't do that anymore... I don't know if you can detail it so much... Clay is very good, but if you need a mask, it might(will) becomea bit heavy... :S

Fuzzle Guy 11-16-2004 12:12 AM

Thankyou, I'll look into it, anyone else got any Ideas? How about a crawling slig hand puppet (Movable mouth)

Cyber-Slig 11-16-2004 03:37 AM

Use tights for the tentacle back the waist of the slig and the main body .. Fill them with cotton whool to beef up bits . Use tights as arms and beef up the hand area . Fingers could be done with anything . And for the headclay tentacles . And maybe you have some old folks with gasmasks ? Most have . If you can get one place it on the slig

T-nex 11-16-2004 09:03 AM

Or make your own gasmask, made of paper or black leather :)
Leather is cool to work with becouse it's thick and flexible. Just cut the shape of the mask and sew it on the puppet...

Fuzzle Guy 11-16-2004 09:19 AM

Thankyou! A glukkon costume, I want to stick as far away as possable from masks for that.

T-nex 11-16-2004 09:23 AM

Well, then how would you look like a glukken if you don't want a mask?

Fuzzle Guy 11-16-2004 09:26 AM

Something that you can use makeup for, what kind of things can you do, I dunno, maybe paper mache that you can stick to the face and then cover it with the same colour as face paint.

T-nex 11-16-2004 09:29 AM

well, you still don't have a big enough head to look like a glukkon. And you also need a big under-lip... I don't really understrand how you want it made. You want only some parts of it to be made of Paper mache, and the rest of the face makeupped? or what?...

Fuzzle Guy 11-16-2004 09:33 AM

The upper lip, the nose will be paper mache (Obviously with enough space for the actor to breath), I will extend the head with papier mache unless anyone has any other Ideas, and I will do the chin.

T-nex 11-16-2004 10:52 AM

Ah... What about your nose? It doesn't seem very glukkonlike... You could put some textile on the extended head part, aswell as the upper lip, then it would seem more texturized, and will not have all those sharp edges. But you obviosly have to paint the skin to make it look glukkon'ish.

As T-nex said, clay is an option... but it's really hard to maintain.
And you would have to have the right type of clay to give support to the structure of the statue/model-thing.
If you decide to choose clay, then choose some thing that has mesh mixed with the clay.
The basic "white clay" (as we a referer the clays in number at school, this one would be the number 254) is easy to use, but it doesn't keep it's form very well. With 254 you will be able to create smooth surfaces more easily that with a clay that has mesh mixed into it.

Meshed clays are more supportive, but they tend to break more easily during burning.

Burning is probably the most difficult problem with clay, because only then it will be water-proof...

Then you could glaze the clay, after it has been burned.
By glazing the clay, you can create different surfaces.
With is neat :)

That's all for now... I hope it cleared you with some things if you decided to choose clay as your material...

Thankyou Red Muse

T-nex 11-18-2004 06:24 AM

so.... What is the conclusion? Will you be able to make your costumes?

Fuzzle Guy 11-18-2004 08:59 AM

I will be able to make my costumes thanx to all your tips and help, thsnkyou,

-Fuzzle Guy

T-nex 11-18-2004 09:36 AM

well good luck then. And please remember to show us what you've done, when your finished :)

Fuzzle Guy 11-18-2004 09:38 AM

Don't worry, I won't forget. I'll post them up as soon as they're on the actors ;)

The Red Muse 11-18-2004 11:52 PM

Oh, I almost forgot; You can use paperclay.
Paperclay is a rather new invention, which you can order from some larger pottery stores.
It really quite much fun to use ;)
