Happy Halloweird!

Half a month late it may be, but I'd like to wish the Forumers a Happy Halloween and treat them to a fantastic Trick or Treat costume my travels have lead me to:

Hehehe. Sapphire spent a long time working on this fantastic costume, and we thought everyone would love to see it. Her dedication is betrayed by her craftspersonship - those nails are sewn into the fabric, and that mask is simply stunning, I can tell you. Here are some more images:

Sapph's a great artist. Here is her DeviantArt page. Take a browse, you should find some great Oddworld stuff amongst there at least.

Fantastic! How did you guys make that, cos as you know I'm doing my Oddworld film soon, and need Muds, so, what was the mask made out of?

Oddish 11-14-2004 09:00 AM

Yup I saw that:) It's realy Great!

Fuzzle Guy 11-14-2004 10:42 AM

How long did it take for you to make that, and can you answerer my question above please?

Wil 11-14-2004 12:12 PM

Well, it wasn't me, Fuzzle Guy, it was my friend Sapphire. I'll ask her your questions, though. :)

Sapphire very kindly wrote out a long methodology for the construction of the mask, so I'll simply copy and paste it here:

:

First, my roommate put two layers of plaster gauze strips on my face
and the top of my head(I used plastic wrap to prevent it getting
stuck to me, and a shower cap, leaving the nostrils and eyeholes
uncovered. When it dried, I could remove it, and had a base for the
rest of the mask that would fit snugly.

Then, I put a layer of paper mache over it, to build it up. This I
don't think was entirely necessary, looking back on it, but it
smoothed out some of the plaster lumps, and is lighter than plaster.

for the eyes, I used some cotton stuffing wrapped in plastic(but you
can use any round object) and formed clay around them, leaving the
stuffing in there to stop the eyeball from sagging. It sits just
outside of my real eye, so that I could use the wrinkles to sort of
hide that. I used clay to form the shape I wanted for the face (my
nostrils are inside the mouth) and smooth the head out. I also
added clay ears.

Then I painted it with acrylic, two layers, and added details and
fixed some things I didn't like about the mask.

For the ponytail, I cut out the pattern in fabric and stitched it
shut, then turned it inside-out and stuffed it. Sharpies worked
well for coloring, but do it somewhere ventilated... yikes.

Glue it on, plus stitches, and voila!

She also reminded me that while she did help design the costume and worked on hand-stitching a detail, most of the work was actually done by somebody else.

That's a great costume, it made me laugh. Better than what I dressed up as. (A dark Fairy) I just put a wig on, some goth make-up, fishnet tights and I made some black wings and a wand.

awesome!
I like the head shape:)

Oddude_ 11-21-2004 05:42 AM

Two words: AMA-ZING!
It almost looks like an original work by Oddworld Inhabitants!

Sorry for the late-ness, but I must congratulate Saphhire on her fine craftswomanship. I hadn't noticed the thread until now.

Great work!
