EA Games' Official Site & New Screenshots / Movies

Credit goes to Oddworld Universe.

EA Games' has finally added a game section for Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. I doubt this is the mini-site Oddworld Inhabitants were talking about, but it is interesting that EA has got it up there. Along with the site, are ten brand new screenshots. You may notice that on the site, the date of release says 26th January 2005. Where as everywhere else, says the 25th. Rather weird.

These screenshots are absolutely amazing. I can't believe the detail on the images which appear to take place in a massive greenhouse. There is also a movie EA has provided, at: http://www.eagames.com/redesign/game...?id=vid&res=hi

You can view the EA Games site at: http://www.eagames.com/redesign/game...world/home.jsp and the images I have attached below.

Very well found!!! I reported it on oddblog and gave you credit.
Those screens are absolutly superb!!! This is Oddworld as we all love!

Cloverfield 11-13-2004 04:53 AM

Those screens are impressive! Looking much more like the Stranger I saw at OW studios. The first bunch released seemed to be lacking something ... but these ones are awesome!

Ah, memories! I played some of those areas!!! :fuzblink:

Is it just me, or does the sign in the last screen shot say New Yolk City? C'mon, now what's that?

Alcar 11-13-2004 06:04 AM

It's creativity at its finest ;)

But that is nothing new. I've seen it on an image before. And I do think Oddworld could come up with better names. I'm not all that impressed with "Gizzard Gulch" either. It sounds like a "level", more than a "region". *sigh* It's all these little things that ruin the experience.

That banner looks kool. The screen shots are very nice too, You can get choped & sliced. That is New Yolk city, it looks more like a town. The 4th image I like very much, with that big mechancle thing. And that trackor agian!

do you guys notice that the smiles are all Red :( X's?

Fabulous new screenshots! The ‘greenhouse’ has a super atmosphere, even if they're only screenshots. I have to say I love the swings doors in the first image - I admit it was wrong of me to judge their creativity from early storyboards. I'm not sure about the tractor, though. The top looks a bit jeep-like, but it seems rather Earthly.

I'm liking most of the names in Stranger so far. ‘Gizzard Gulch’ sounds like a great place name to me, as does ‘Dead End Pass,’ which was mentioned a while ago. That second one is just funny to me. ‘New Yolk City’ I find hilarious because, essentially, it's piss-take of Clakkerz being chickens. I don't mind it being a location on Oddworld, either. Now we can pretend that ‘New York City’ as seen in a Daily Deception was a typo or too small to read accurately.

I'm alive. Here's my eleven cents.

What makes "New Yolk City" any worse than "SoulStorm Brewery"? Seriously, I think most of the people on this forum hold OWI to standards that never even existed in their other games. One letter less and scrab is crab. Slig is slug. Slog is is dog. Its clever, not a sign of OWI lack of creativity. Would you prefer things to be called Plurmong or Neebloarja?

I like what I've seen so far. Hopefully the gameplay is lives up to what it should be. That's really all it comes down to for me. If the game is fun, it is a good game. One thing I don't like is the disracting way the ammo looks at you. But I guess I could just switch to third person.

Hmmm. You have a point, but one that I've heard iterated many times before. Personally, I just dislike "New Yolk City". I like the creativity of slig = slug, scrab = crab, slog = dog, etc. But "New Yolk City" just registers too much of a cliche (over use, such as Oddworld's affection with the letter 'z').

You might recall that I was one of the defenders of Munch's Oddysee. I saw the beauty in the game, as a general game, but I saw the uglyness in it as an Oddworld game. Also, those names you created off the top of your head (I assume), are quite good. I wouldn't mind seeing them in the game.

Oddworld has always mirrored our world to show us the error of our ways. Slavery, Animal Testing, etc...
So New Yolk City could have Clakkers peeing in the streets, gold watches being sold for one moolah and Stranger getting mugged. Oy the possibilities. Most likely though, it's just a fun play on words. I don't see anyone mocking New York after 9/11.

In what way is ‘New Yolk City’ a cliché? I don't know of any similar parodies, and I've never heard New York City being called ‘New Yolk City’ in any way. I can understand it may seem a bit of an Earthly name, but that's all.

dripik 11-14-2004 04:01 AM

Interesting screenshots. They are looking good.
Well, these names may sound strange at first. I remember when I first saw the new creatures and their names of MO. They looked strange. I wondered how they will fit in the game, but now, I like them.

Which is why I supplied the text in brackets after I mentioned ' cliche'. New York is used in so many games, it's overused. Thus, why I used the word 'cliche'. In my perspective, it's an overused saying, or in this case, a word, that has lost its appeal for me.

Generally, I'm impressed with the game. But there are always going to be those things that I dislike.

Why the hell shouldn't they? I respect what happened on 9/11 was a terrible tragedy, but doesn't mean that New York is totally off limits to all humor.

Anyway. I hate the new subtitle. It's crap.

[/My Two Cents]

I don't really see how that's relevent. New York City has never been used by Oddworld, so can't compare to the overuse of ‘z’.

It's not as if NYC is actually in the game - it's just the name of a Clakker City. The name of a city can't be a cliché, either, because it's a proper noun. ‘The Big Apple’ could be a cliché, I guess.

Esus 11-14-2004 06:24 AM

I'm pretty indifferent to New Yolk City. I think I'd prefer if it wasn't called New Yolk City, but I won't hold it as a particularly bad thing.

Xavier 11-14-2004 11:43 AM

I wouldn't call the "new yolk city" a cliché thing, more a little refrence, like an easter egg...

I realy think it's funny

Oddish 11-14-2004 12:05 PM

Ooh ooh, I just found an erro.. or a clue?
http://www.xboxworld.nl/images/content/26926.jpg
Look at the right side, and you'll see text coming from behind. it says "ea", Electronic Arts!

*walks away*

Xavier 11-14-2004 12:14 PM

I realy doubt it's realy the "ea" from the Electronic Arts :p
but well noticed

Esus 11-14-2004 12:24 PM

I'd say that was chance. t3h luck, so to speak.

Oddish 11-14-2004 12:33 PM

I think the site is the offcial site for Stranger's Warth, because is dosent say it on oddworld.com anymore. I think Munchonthis.com is a better lookin site.

Xavier 11-14-2004 12:51 PM

well it's the page of oddworld official publisher... I don't realy get what you are trying to say?

Wil 11-14-2004 12:57 PM

Oddworld.com's Stranger info page promised the official site wuld be coming soon. Some people apparently took as read that there would be a mini site (as in MunchOnThis.com to Munch's Oddysee), when all we've got is a games page on the EA Games website.

I don't know I'd like such a site for Stranger... Usually I love them, but I almost can't picture one for Stranger... weird.

Alcar 11-14-2004 10:27 PM

Not even what I have attached? :(

I've had justgotstranger.com registered for a while now, and the design in the attachment had been made around the same time. Thus, the inclusion of the PS2 logo. It looks crap in the JPG, because the compression was rather high (I used paint rather than a commercial image editor). Just to make sure, everything is copyrighted, etc.

Also, if you direct your attention to the EA Games' Stranger mini-site, you'll notice that one of the bullet points reads: "Live ammo... literally! Collect nine unique types of "live" ammunition including Chippunks, Fuzzles, Thudslugs, and Boombats."

Specifically, I'm intrigued with the word "nine". As far as I'm aware (though I could be mistakened), there are only eight types of live ammo. So, once again, EA has stuffed up again, showing us how wonderfully committed they are to Oddworld Inhabitants, or there's been a new ammo type added.

Alcar...

Cloverfield 11-15-2004 05:51 AM

Isn't making a site that looks like an official site not allowed? o_O As we have to put disclaimers and copyrights on our fan site pages saying we are not associated with OWI, blah, etc.

Anyways, back on subject ... the Munch mini-site was developed by Microsoft and not OWI ... so depending on what EA want to do, they may develop their own Stranger mini-site which is separate to what Oddworld.com do.

Abe Babe...

Xavier 11-15-2004 11:02 AM

true, the vykkerslab site was also made by microsoft from what I heard...
the design looks absolutly awesome Alcar.
plus they removed the "mini-site coming" sign from oddworld.com

There are nine ammo types...only 8 are Live Ammo. The 9th would be the sniper darts. I know you know that. It seems EA just got confused.

Here's a test page I put together when I was bored one day.

it sums it up very well

That's a mighty purdy si(gh)t[e], but it's not the kind of Shockwave site that springs to mind when official mini sites are mentioned.

I wish I could be bored. If it even looked as if I might, I'd jump on the opportunity to do online Oddworld work I've been hankering to get on with for ages.

Oddish 11-15-2004 01:12 PM

I thought the sniper darts were replaced with the Wasps,or is he still keeping the darts, but dosen't seem to use them.
