I got my Art of OW book ...

Just today, I recieved the first of my Art of Oddworld books [I ordered all three editions]. The softcover version arrived, and I was all anxious to look at it.

Sadly though, it has been sealed. So I have to *try* and wait until my other two versions arrive and see if any of those are unsealed, as I'd like to keep at least one copy sealed mint for collectors reasons.

Anyone else recieve a copy yet, or am I the first one?

Abe Babe...

oddguy 11-12-2004 08:57 AM

I only had enough moolah to order the Limited Edition, and those are being shipped later that the other editions...so I'm still waiting. I should be getting it around January or February.

Software Bug 11-12-2004 10:15 AM

I have ordered all versions also but i havnt recieved anything....

Oddsville 11-12-2004 10:24 AM

I only ordered the Limited Edition aswell so who knows how long it'll be before I get mine.O_o
Oh and congratts Abe Babe, I know it must be torture to just have the book as well as be the known first to own it and not look through it.

Wil 11-12-2004 10:34 AM

Hey, lucky Abe Babe, well done. Way to defy temptation.

Just a reminder that the contents of the book should be discussed in the Spoiler Forum for the consideration of those who would rather wait to be surprised by the contents of the book (despite Ballistic having thumbnails of each and every page).

January or February for the limited edition? Awww; I'll probably have Stranger, er... 's Wrath by then.

Oddish 11-12-2004 10:59 AM

Wow, you finally got it. Well I aint got mine yet but since it's a hardcover I think it might come earlly December. What a geat oddworld winter.

Cloverfield 11-12-2004 11:21 PM

Ack ... it is torture! It's sitting on the desk here and I keep looking at the pretty cover!

I think I got mine so quickly because I'm in Australia and probably most people here would have ordered either the limited edition or the hardcover versions ... unless they are crazy like me.

Abe Babe...

Fuzzle Guy 11-13-2004 02:55 AM

I might be getting it for Christmas, if I can wait that long!

Same here, I thought it be best for getting it for chirstmas, but it's such a long time.

Fuzzle Guy 11-13-2004 12:00 PM

Just think of it this way, a little bit more than a month to go...

Miss Odd 11-13-2004 02:59 PM

Can you actually walk into a bookstore and buy this book? Or do you have to order it online...?

I walked into Borders and asked them if they had it, and they said it hadn't been released yet...

What?!

Alcar 11-13-2004 09:00 PM

Borders doesn't know what it is talking about. Ballistic has said many times that their books are sold independantly through themselves, so Borders must be lying.

You have to order it online, and it is sent to you in the mail.

Alcar...

Cloverfield 11-14-2004 01:23 AM

I know they've said that ... but isn't it a little strange to only sell a book online. Especially to an audience which is primarily made up of teenagers. I think it would be a better move if at least the softcover version were sold in store. I've seen many art books in stores, and you'd get people who aren't aware of the book buying it on impulse because they have played the OW games but didn't know about the book [i.e. someone that isn't a huge fan].

Also the fact that not everyone has access to a credit card. Which has always been a long time gripe for me, from when I became a fan of FF music and found the only place to get official soundtracks is online.

Abe Babe...

Wil 11-14-2004 03:21 AM

I do concur with your points about the number of sales due to impulse buying and the potential for unavailability of credit cards, Abe Babe, but Mark Snoswell has already said “It's just too expensive to supply Amazon or go through general distribution at present.” For the full story, I think there's an interview in which he explains it well. I'd just like to iterate my thanks to Mr Snoswell at this point. ;)

EDIT: Wow, I didn't know that <s&t; was struck through text! *changes <s to <a*

LuLu_Fund 11-14-2004 01:05 PM

I can't friggin' afford it! I soooo want the book. I have a new job in the city though, so maybe I should save up real soon...

I second that.

I got an email telling me mine has been shipped, but it hasn't arrived yet. Didn't one of the interviews say that the books were being shipped from China or somewhere?

*cries* well that just means that I can't get it at all.................

Oh well, I didn't think this would be available to the people who don't have the access to credit cards :P

Mark Snoswell mentioned that they had shifted their production to Hong Kong. Though I'd imagine, or hope, that they stockpile them in their headquarters in Australia.

Book #2 has arrived!!! I got my hardcover version today! That is sealed also, so I'm thinking of opening up the softcover one as that is the least expensive of all of them.

Yay! I'm like the only one on OWF with their art books!!!

Looking at the packaging, it appears they have been shipped from Australia, as it has a "postage paid Australia" thing.

Also, on the instore thing ... I do remember reading that now. Maybe some smaller stores might put in their own orders through the Ballistic site ... like we have a specialist bookstore in Melbourne here that does a lot of art books. That would probably be the only hope non-credit card people would have.

I would suggest opening the hard cover - in my experience, floppybacks end up having their covers warped and their spine creased. Fine if you only want it as a reading copy, but I imagine you'd want to keep them all in the best quality possible.

That would be great, but then the price of the book would increase, as the book shop itself would want some profit.

Nate 11-15-2004 12:39 PM

Wow. Wow. Wowee. Looks like I'm the first forumer to open up their book. I was having a crappy day yesterday until I got home and found that package full of love sitting outside my bedroom.

I won't say too much here because we'll start a thread in Spoilers but I will say that it has everything I wanted and more. Only a little about Stranger but also some hints on the direction that Abe and Munch are heading.

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY - ORDER THIS BOOK NOW!

You won't regret it.

Oddish 11-15-2004 12:53 PM

Thats great Nate-dog-woof. Cannot wait for mine. Where abouts you live?

look at his details under his name: Melb. Australia.

Oddish 11-15-2004 01:03 PM

That makes sense.

odd chick 11-15-2004 02:04 PM

I'm so sad. I may not get to have my book now because my credit card is not accepted at Ballistic Publishing =(

Nate 11-15-2004 03:27 PM

Do you know where your parents keep their wallets?

There is a link on the Ballistic Publishing site for bulk orders which also has some information about becoming a reseller. So it's stores like that I mentioned that would probably use this method [doubt it would be seen in major chain stores for the reasons already mentioned]. It also lists the discounts that are given based on how many books are bought and possibly more discounts if you are reselling. I hadn't noticed this little link on their site before ... guess I never had a reason to look at such.

Maybe if anyone who cannot order through credit card contacts Ballistic and asks about where they can buy it from, they might be able to tell the person of a reseller in their area.

Abe Babe...

Alcar 11-16-2004 02:27 AM

You're in luck! There are resellers based throughout the world.

Miss Odd, you're in more luck, because there is one in Melbourne! Check out Ballistic's own Resellers page here: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/resellers

Do we have any idea when the LE's will be shipped?
