Best Rock Band In The World: Nominations

Okay, I think its time the forums had a little something to vote for...... Yeah. Anyway, I was thinking a best rock band in the world awards. Each person can nominate ONE band and up to THREE songs which you think makes them the best band in the world. The nominations will stop on the 19th of September.

I nominate Placebo, for:

Every You, Every Me (Lyrically this song is the best. And the riffs are so simple, I dont know hat makes it so great!)

The Bitter End (C'mon, who doesnt like this song?)

Days Before You Came (Swift, fast, amazing. The riff gets stuck in your head for ages)

Get Nominating!

Easy...

I nominate Muse and as for the songs...

-Bliss (The.Best.Muse.Song.Ever.Period.)
-Hysteria (Just great!)
-Eternally Missed (So...sad...somehow... Desperate, even..)

Viva la Muse!
Yah!

Fez 08-29-2004 10:25 AM

I love you Henna. Well chosen.

The Red Muse 08-29-2004 10:37 AM

Thankye :) You too, sir, seem to have a great taste in music! ;)

SeaRex 08-29-2004 10:45 AM

What the hell? You can't nominate a band twice... what's the point in that?

I nominate the Ramones. Not only were they highly influential, their music crossed genres and Rock 'n' Roll boundaries. Plus, they're just a damn good rock band. Their attitude was excellent. I don't care what anyone says.

Beat on the Brat
Rock 'n' Roll High School
I Wanna Be Sedated

Good point!
*gives cookie*

...well.. Damn...

Now I don't know what to nominate :crying:

Life is meaningless!

Majic 08-29-2004 11:50 AM

Oh, this is a toughie. The Who? The Beatles? Pearl Jam? Give me a minute here kiddo's, as I need to sort ot my priorities. And I still don't understand this whole "Muse" craze... I've heard Hysteria multiple times, and am relatively familiar with it. The song has a horrible chorus, and the riff gets old after the second listen. Surely, that song isn't one of the pinnacles of their creativity and rocking abilities?

Big_Bro_Slig222 08-29-2004 11:53 AM

Guns & Roses, for Sympathy for the Devil. They've made some other good ones, but SftD is probably their best work.

Majic 08-29-2004 05:36 PM

Pearl Jam for:

Betterman
Black
State of Love and Trust

Jeebus, I had to leave off so many. So many indeed... I could easily list another 10-15 more off the top of my head. May even have to change my song list, later.

Hobo 08-29-2004 11:07 PM

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, but not for most of their mainstream songs:

I shall choose.

1.) Venice Queen (a tribute to their drug helpey person who died of cancer, without which the band would be in a much worse state, lovely song, with lovely lyrics)

2.) My Lovely Man ( A tribute to another dead guy who helped form the band but OD'd on heroin, much more noisy and fun than Venice Queen)

3.) (Normally it'd be under the bridge, but as I've got 2 meaningful songs, I'm going for something loud and random) Nevermind ( A loud jumpy, short song just to remind you who they are)

Must also commend these songs for being cool, but not cool enough:

Under The Bridge (pretty)

Give It Away ( Insane random song about stuff, very fun to listen to)

Fortune Faded (Live only though, studio v. is crapola)

Pretty Little Ditty (nice instrumental that just chills you out)

Around The World (Best Bass Intro EVER)

And Their Cover Of Black Cross by .45 Grave off their Live IN Hyde Park Album (Insane Metal.punk crossbread with lots of stuff)

EDIT:

I agree, I'm going off muse a bit, i don't know what it is about them but there's something that doesn't put them up there with Hendrix, RHCP and Guns N Roses in my opinion. And the fact that Matt scream alot and some of the songs are criminally bad (I'm looking at you Ruled By Secrecy)

Alcar 08-30-2004 02:27 AM

Obviously, I nominate my favourite band, Garbage. The three songs I nominate are:
  • Only Happy When It Rains
  • The Trick Is To Keep Breathing
  • Milk

Alcar...

Statikk HDM 08-30-2004 10:49 AM

Anthrax
Belly of the Beast
American Pompeii
Efilnikcufesin(N.F.L.)
Ian is probably my favorite rythm guitarists and Benante is a monster at the drums, he's like a thrash-styled Pert on crack.
Now that's heavy metal, for rock its really close between Black Sabbath, Queen, and Zepplin. My head say Zepplin but my heart says Queen. Queen is like the best ****ing band to play poker to.

Majic 08-30-2004 01:30 PM

I'm sort of wondering why all of the sub genres of "Rock" are grouped together for the individual award. The Ramones, The Beatles, Sum 41, and Nirvana can all be considered rock. But do they sound anything alike, or even contend for the same sound? Not really.

SeaRex 08-31-2004 12:30 AM

Yeah. But it's the soul of the music, Majic. THE. SOUL. The spirit of rock 'n' roll, baby.

You know, the only reason I could think of that these random groups should be put together in a single contest. That soul.

Xavier 08-31-2004 12:53 AM

I nominate Rammstein with the songs:

Sonne (from the Mutter album)
Ich Will (from the Mutter album)
Du Hast (from the Sehnsucht album)

I wish I could nominate other bands :p

paramiteabe 08-31-2004 02:37 AM

Hell dude I say the "Doors (The End)"
There is nothing like Jim Morrison the electric poet

What else ah yes Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon in (Time) I think thats the name of the song.

Me to, Beatles would so be up there:p

paramiteabe 08-31-2004 02:47 AM

Yes Beatles are most definitly up there infact they are probabally the greatest rock band of all time even through death. But most of the credit goes to John Lennon since he started the band.

Mac the Janitor 08-31-2004 04:04 AM

THE AQUABATS

1) Giant Robot Birdhead - one of the most musically complex and creative songs I have ever heard. Also my favorite song.

2) Danger Woman - Oh man...so fun to go crazy to.

3) Comic Book Man - a combination of the two above reasons.

Hobo 08-31-2004 04:08 AM

Fez, I hope you're not planning to make a vote with this, as we're all gonna vote for our own nominated bands, and then no one else will get a vote.

Mac the Janitor 08-31-2004 04:11 AM

Muse is going to win. No doubt about it. This forum is 100% Muse groupies and you all know it :p

Hobo 08-31-2004 04:17 AM

Yeah, I had a bad feeling something like that might happen, not good. As they do not have as much talent (in my opinion) as many other bands but are rated just as highly

Statikk HDM 08-31-2004 06:46 AM

I agree with Majic. So far a german metal band, a thrash band, an arena-rock band, a radio-friendly punk band, and a 60s band have benn nominated so its way to diverse to decide.

Fez 08-31-2004 07:19 AM

ACUTALLY. I was going to make a vote, and I was going to vote for RHCP :p

But now, I wont, so there :p

Leto 08-31-2004 01:33 PM

I nominate Muse, for
Hysteria (It was stuck in my head for 3 months...)
Darkshines(Sounds like crazy cowboy rock guitars!)
and lastly, Feeling Good (Sounds like an old 50's song)

TheRaisin 08-31-2004 03:04 PM

R.E.M. Most definitely. Songs... hmm lemme see.

1. Nightswimming-- This is simply one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
2. Everybody Hurts-- Who hasn't seen and loved the music video for this one? Best MV ever. And an excellent song.
3. The River-- I think that's the name of it. Well, it's the last track on "Automatic for the People", if that helps. Automatic for the People definitely shows R.E.M. at their best. All three of my choices are from that album.

Fez 08-31-2004 11:12 PM

It is, it's a cover of Nina Simones Feeling Good.

Fuzzle Guy 09-01-2004 09:40 AM

Eum, don't really like rock, but if I had to choose or be shot it would probably be Robbie Williams, due to his song Me & My Monkey (I like monkeys)
