Stranger's True Nature

I needed an excuse to post this:

:

Set in a new frontier of the Oddworld universe, players step into the role of the Stranger, a bounty hunter who captures outlaws in order to collect the all-mighty greenback.

Yes, I know greenback is slang for paper money, but could it be a kind of pun, a take on gorilla silverbacks? Part of Stranger's design is gorilla, after all, and if we are to assume that in order to hunt this "ultimate bounty" Stranger must come to terms with his true nature, isn't it reasonable to presume the two might be related?

not really stranger face looks like a gorrilas nothing else but i suppose its fair to say they COULD be related

Oddish 08-29-2004 08:10 AM

It would be interesting if you was related to someone. Lorne said that the ending will be a suprise.

I wonder if that creature on the logo will be in the game.

It is most likely to be the head on his boat

Who wrote that quote about the greenback? if it wasn't OWI then its meaningless. Even if it was it probably still means nothing, just a cool way of saying something.

As Max the Mug stated in the quote, it was written by the gaming media company, HappyPuppy. I believe the quote is merely the author adding more stylistic devices to his work. I doubt Lorne, or Oddworld Inhabitants, would have released such a covered-up piece of information to a relatively inferior gaming source.

Then again, maybe Lorne purposefully let it slip to them ;)

I meant whether happypuppy was quoting lorne. But he probably just made it up himself to sprinkle a little fairydust. ("Its like we were on our own island" "but New York is an island")

Stop trying to make so much of a coincidence:p Trying to decipher nonexistent implications is a futile effort, and will only make you more antsy:p

mmmmm...delete this if its been mentioned elsewhere, but, has anyone got any ideas on why Stranger is dying? Lorne says he is ill, possibly terminal ill, and thats the reason for his bounty hunting and hoovering, so save money for the cure. I'm guessing this will tie in with some subplot, perhaps poisoning or the like. Just thought I'd throw it open to see what your overworked and twisted minds come up with :fuzconf:

Incognito 09-09-2004 07:49 AM

I don't think anyone has ever suggested that Stranger is dying, I remember it as something like "medical condition" I think. Anyway, yeah I think that the "condition" may have something to do some sub-plot. I don't think Stranger's been poisoned or anything like that. But then again I could be wrong.

The Gungrave 09-10-2004 02:45 AM

It would give it some urgency and alot of empathy for Stranger if he WAS dying, or mutating, the sort of thing OI seem to like to emote in their audience, dontcha think?

Oddish 09-10-2004 05:19 AM

His Health bar is always the same, and if you get low health, then is there a way to cure that? Or dose it just go down and you die?

Xavier 09-10-2004 09:27 AM

you can shake yourself and get health back, a bit like MasterChiefs armor...

Oddish 09-10-2004 09:31 AM

I had no idea. Where the hell did get that from,Xav?
