Stranger has 2 Forms intresting

I watched the X Factor video and they said that Stranger has 2 Forms one of is Disguise and the other one looks like a bull in the X Factor video Concept Arts. So if I am in a bull form I can ram someone and run really really fast? Disguise form is the one in the Trailer. Anyone knows how exactly will the 2nd form look?

Wil 08-26-2004 07:55 AM

It may be that this idea was scrapped. From the look of recent things, I'd say that there's definitely something going on with Stranger, something that involves "coming to grips with his true identity," but don't assume everything you saw in the X-Factor special has survived it this far into the game's development.

But if Stranger does assume his centaur form in the gameplay, I would guess he becomes stronger, faster and able to jump further. I would also think his horns would attract the attention of anyone interested in selling them.

Stranger 08-26-2004 07:58 AM

I guess we have to wait and see to see how the 2nd form looks like :) Can't wait!!

Software Bug 08-26-2004 08:36 AM

I dont think stranger has 2 forms or OWI keeps that a secret because te x-factor where just Production arts

Shell Man 08-26-2004 09:06 AM

...

I don't think it was scrapped, considering the big poster that we've seen showing Stranger snarling with huge horns growing out of his head. (In the Lorne interview video.)

Xavier 08-26-2004 09:10 AM

in the XBN article they menion some posters where Stranger has a mistical look, It's probably the same we saw in the X-factor

I think it's still going to be in the game, or else why show it to the press?

Esus 08-26-2004 10:19 AM

In OWI, on some photos, we definately saw a centaur steef on an enormous poster on the wall. I am adamant this it was the centaur form, you could see its back body and its horns.

Xavier 08-26-2004 10:31 AM

in the XBN they refered to him as a minotaur...
I think this definatly points to a second form

Esus 08-26-2004 10:36 AM

However, we must remember that minotaurs are exclusively Bi-pedal.

Volsung 08-26-2004 10:54 AM

Good point Esus. I wondered whether they made a mistake, or whether Strangers' "other form" has been relegated to the growing of horns. The more recent pics have shown nothing of the body. But that could (hopefully) be wrong.

Xavier 08-26-2004 10:59 AM

ooooh that's true
excuse-me I'm confusing with centaur
sorry about that

Stranger 08-26-2004 11:02 AM

If you can turn into Centaur Form in Oddworld Stranger that will kick soo much ass !!

Here's the exact quote so everyone knows what we're talking about.

:

Various posters around the office and references by Lanning allude to a beast of near-mythical proportions, which one can assume will be encountered in the game’s final confrontation. Expect to see plenty of obscure glimpses of this beast in the game’s forthcoming promotional material. The mythos starts here, then.

thank you Oddguy
that's exactly what I was talking about ;)

I guess we won't know for sure before a long time since OWI stays misterious about the twists and shifts of the story.

Wil 08-27-2004 08:50 AM

Lorne called Stranger's design a "minotaur" in X-Factor. Tee hee hee.

I dunno. In the first two games, Abe could transform into Shrykull, and in Munch's Oddysee, Munch was supposed to turn into something big and angry Ã* la The Hulk (not Ã* la Jekyll and Hyde - Lorne confuses his myths and classic tales often, it seems, heh). It would be a bit weird if Stranger just suddenly altered from being bi-pedal to being all centaurish in the middle of gameplay. I hope there's something different about it from such a simple concept.

Esus 08-27-2004 09:35 AM

Do you mean like pressing a button and suddenly being all centaur? In way you could switch between Abe and Munch in MO?
I always thought after the 'revealling' cinematic mid-way through game that an inhabitant spoke about, you would remain as a centaur constantly onwards.

Cyber-Slig 08-27-2004 10:41 AM

Maybe it's in his mind. It's impossible to morph instantly.I have the suffering and you can change into an evil undead hulk thing.Turns out it was in his mind.Same could be with stranger. He goes berzerk and thinks hes suddenly mutated. If it's not in his mind he could maybe turn into a cacoon or something and morph?Or maybe you play as the bull version in certain areas.Who knows

Oddsville 08-27-2004 06:28 PM

Mabye Lorne wanted to include the part of MO the he had to cut out as Max said; the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of idea. It's possible that he could have just put it into this story becuse he liked it so much...just a thought.

Shell Man 08-27-2004 11:17 PM

Well, thats really been an ongoing theme in Oddworld anyway. Characters that are more or less than they seem. For example, the Glukkons and Sligs are less than they seem because without their suits and pants they are pathetic. In contrast, Abe is just a scrawy little guy who can turn into a powerful god.I get the impression that while Stranger tries to be more of an industrial type character, he's hiding his more natural, beastly persona.

Nate 08-29-2004 01:26 PM

I really don't think that the transformation is in his head. It would add nothing to the gameplay if he just thought he was a centaur but still had the strength and powers of a normal bipedal steef.

I doubt that he will be able to switch between bipedal and quadropedal at the click of a button. Something has to trigger it, either a one-off event so he's like that for the rest of the game or something similar to the way Abe has to earn the Shrykull power.

BTW where did the word "minotaur" come from? Was it actually in the article or was it just someones slip of the tongue?

Oddish 08-30-2004 02:11 AM

Stranger might be hiding his real self. A natural beast, and disguase himself to blend in the crowd.Mabey his medical problem is to strong to handle and then get's to him, by Strangers soft side or weakness that he has bured deep inside him. Mabey strange his hinding some feelings or something similar. What could happen is that his tranformation could kill him, if he's to weak to handel it.

I think that he's been that beast before. If you ask me his medical promblem is very serious then.

Volsung 08-30-2004 08:16 AM

Where is the phrase "medical problem" coming from? I must have skipped it, somehow. I do recall that OI has said Stranger's weakness would be mental, not physical, so perhaps part of his problem is that he considers what might be a natural transformation as this "medical problem" that's been stated. You know, hunter becomes the hunted; "am I a man or a beast?" Stop this de-evolution; etcetera, etcetera. It could be Steef's are supposed to become the Centaur or minotaur type thing, and he thinks that the transformation would degrade him, or even just make him vulnerable.

I just realized (but this may have been covered before) that the images we've seen of the transformed Steefs are generally tranquil (exceting the roaring poster). Maybe the physical growth of the horns also represents a transfer of power from physical to spiritual. But who knows. I'm curious about what kind of hip and elbow joints would allow for the bi-pedal (walking) to quadrapedal (running) switch. He must have a kicking skeletal structure.

Oh, and I always assumed the transformation would happen once and remain the same for the rest of the game.

Nate 08-30-2004 12:39 PM

Its in the eurogamer video; Lorne said that Stranger is saving money for medical treatment. Something life or death.

Software Bug 08-30-2004 07:03 PM

but if youre need a medical treatment how can you go on adventure to collect some money??:D

Esus 08-30-2004 10:23 PM

Why would his medical problem slow down his mind or physical abilities? Anyway, it could be in the very early stages.

Volsung 08-31-2004 07:36 AM

A medical problem, by definition, is an abnormal state of affairs within your biological system. Generally the effects of the abnormality are negative (hence the term problem) and so we assume that this will degrade performance. But it MUST be in the early stages for him to be doing what he's doing. If it was really bad off he'd have little buckets out asking for money. Oh, and just so we're all sure; Do we get the impression that Stranger is keeping this medical problem secret from the townsfolk? (not that running around shouting about your diseases is a good way to get work)

Oddish 08-31-2004 07:46 AM

I wounder if he knows what cure will cure him, if he did ,he could of just stole the medicine or is it something diffrent.

Nate 08-31-2004 12:51 PM

Unless its an operation. And I get the impression that Steefs are highly moral creatures so he would not want to steal the cure. Although in the game you can beat up the hickens for their moolah.

Xavier 08-31-2004 10:49 PM

I've got that impression too NDW...
by the way the hickens' official name are Clakkerz ;)

Nate 09-01-2004 12:33 PM

:banghead: :banghead: I knew that. :banghead: Forgot.
