Industrialists....How stupid are they!

I wanted to ask these questions for a long time.I think industrialists could be the dumbest things on oddworld....why? Cos for a start why do sligs put up with **it from the glukkons? They could easily rebel and probably control oddworld with thier mass numbers....and also why can't they tell when another industrialists is possessed?Man they get a wierd voice , blue orbs and blue eyes.Has anyone else got answers to these or have they noticed things which are twice as dumb?

Havoc 08-26-2004 06:14 AM

Sligs are to stupid to even think of rebelling. And I guese not being able to see if someone is possed is just plain old stupidity.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 06:24 AM

I think it's fear that sligs don't notice it.If a slig said to a gluk ''Hey are you possessed?'' he would get killed probably. If he was possessed or not.Meanwhile another slig or some intern it would kill easily.Slogs they would shoot too.I doubt vykkers though. They are superior to the sligs. And vykkers could rebel but the population of sligs for the gluks is pretty big.Interns don't care about themselves and really do anything the vykkers say so they would'nt rebel.I think another way of stupidity from industrialists is the things they do for cash.If you told an industrialist he would get 3000000 moolah if he got possessed the stupid sod would do it and get himself killed.Surprisingly I think interns are the only smart industrialiasts.....They really don't care about cash they just wan't swimwear and music.Other than that they are idiots.Has anyone else spotted something Stupid?

Havoc 08-26-2004 06:32 AM

Ya... the factory's have chant supressors all over the place, exept for the CEO offices...

How stupid can you get?! :P

Esus 08-26-2004 06:33 AM

Possession is very rare, and the blue swirling parts are just a gameplay feature, so the player knows who is possessed. Even though the end movie of MO says differently...

Lets look at the reasons of why sligs obey glukkons: They give them money. They give them housing. They make and give them mechanical legs. They give them weaponry.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 06:35 AM

Well spotted ;) yeah its stupid its like

Glukkon : Ok I wan't this company to live and have lots of cash so make sure theres lots of chant supressors but don't put one in my office so I can be possessed okay guys?

that is dumb. Also this is incredibly dumb but why do glukkons not blow up in MO? Infact u can't even kill glukkons.I know 2 ways how to kill them and they are invincible.I find that annoying and Esus I suppose that could be true but there eyes turn blue and they have a strange voice which is easily noticable. And I think they do see the orbs.In the end movie Valet Wipes and slaps at lulu which looks like hes trying to get rid of the orbs which he must have thought was fireflies or a bugs. And the glukkons don't give the sligs anything it's the vykkers. The sligs could easily enslave vykkers.Vykkers don't have a big population

Esus 08-26-2004 06:49 AM

Perhaps Abe's powers of possession are greatly developed, meaning he doesn't have to blow up a victim if he doesn't want to. Also, the glukkons in MO that he left were all bankrupt. They were no/little threat to Abe and his mudokons, so perhaps he saw no reason to purposely blow them up? Also, if he did blow them up, the newspapers would know the glukkon was possessed. Perhaps Abe wanted the newspapers to think that the glukkon donated his money out of his good will?
If the newspapers suspected Abe of possessing the glukkons to give Lulu money, they maybe the authorities would kill Lulu for conspiring/working with terrorists? Not killing the glukkons after possession made it look as though the glukkons were not possessed by Abe or anyone else.

The Magog Cartel supply the sligs with their necessities. The glukkons are a major part of this. You need intelligence to enslave a race. I think we're pretty certain that the sligs are not very intelligent, the vykkers are intelligent - and - sligs need the higher pwoers to produce them with their necessities, such as fuel for their mechanical wings and legs. It is unlikely they would know how to produce such things.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 07:00 AM

Then why kill dripik , phleg and aslik ? It was obvious they were possessed that way.And abe could have killed them.He could have blew up the gluk possessed a slig and made it look like a murder. And it would also end a company meaning big trouble for the industrialists. And could'nt the sligs force the magog to give them the stuff? They could easily hold maggie prisoner and get whatever they wan't.Skillya would be in charge then. And sligs with free will could mean some havoc. They would doze off but they would mainly try to enslave all of the other creatures on Mudos.I doubt they would get far on distant lands.I mean if sligs just wen't on a full scale assault on muds etc mudos could be dominated in weeks possibly days. This could be done without rebelling if the glukkons were'nt too fancy with slig servants and had strict rules for them.Ofcourse in order to rebel they would have to be really careful and kill abe first. If abe possessed or killed skillya the sligs would die in a few years and they have no offspring.Making them screwed. So I think I see now why would'nt rebel

Esus 08-26-2004 07:10 AM

:

Then why kill dripik , phleg and aslik ?
I just explained this. he wasn't skilled enough at possessing at that point. Why don't all the security guards and policemen in the world rebel? They could take over the world!!!!!!!11!!11oneone!11

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 07:12 AM

Yeah but the aren't insane and thier job is to stop the law from being broke :p whereas sligs are power-hungry mud-beating pigs

Esus 08-26-2004 07:13 AM

No. Sligs arent't insane and their job is stop laws being broke. Even if those laws seem immoral. Sligs aren't power hungry.

dripik 08-26-2004 07:22 AM

Well, I spotted that some of the Glukkons at the Gabbiar Auction have originally blue eyes, so it's maybe not a weird thing for Lulu. The blue orbs... Well, maybe the other Glukkons thought it's an extra for Lulu's clothes. :D I think they don't realy care of these details. They were concentrating on the auction.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 07:32 AM

Yeah but they all read the daily deception so they would know Lulu's eyes were orange

Volsung 08-26-2004 07:44 AM

The Possesion "tells" like blue eyes and floating orbs around the possessed are probably meant to be taken as "for the players eyes only". We need to know when he's possessed and when he isn't or the loss of control would be harder to pinpoint. I don't recall the Valet ever swiping at the orbs around Lulu, but if he did, it probably just goes into the same category as the "aura" remark. OI made a joke.

Do we actually see the three Gluks blow up? I can't remember. But they don't need to have not been possessed for that, as the factory blows up anyway. They weren't going to be making it out of there no matter what happened.

As for the nature of Sligs, we learned from the scrapped Albino Slig idea that sligs are normally peaceful, and that the sligs we see throughout the game all come Skillya, an exceptionally bad mother. The sligs need love and acceptance, and she sells them to the cartel, who treat them horribly, but fulfill that need for societal acceptance nevertheless. As we saw in the games, the Sligs (who are stupid) are absurdly loyal to the gluks, whom they probably see as father figures, or even perhaps saviors. They'll gun down their own brethren and beloved slogs on the say-so of a Glukkon. So its unlikely they would turn on them.

Another answer tied into that is the idea that they love guns, which they're too stupid to make and rely on the Glukkons for. It is kind of a stretch to see them being smart enough not to hurt the glukkons but too dumb to figure out how to make the guns and pants. But not that much.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 07:49 AM

I think the industrialists would see the blue eyes and funny voice etc . They obviosly don't care or pay attention. And what you're saying is when skillya ages and dies the next slig queen could a bit more loving to her kids they will be good boys ;)

T-nex 08-26-2004 07:51 AM

Lol...

New stupidity: Why the HECK are there transport thingy made especally for Abe and Much in the factorys, when they don't want them to escape? And why don't the Glukkons get rid of the birds?

Volsung 08-26-2004 07:52 AM

In theory yes, but the new queen would have to be raised away from the old, most likely. As for the voice, Lulu could have just had too much to drink. We don't know that any of them had heard his voice before that anyway. Except for the Valet, who could think that Lulu just had a really good idea.

The birds, seemingly being partially unreal, (As in general birds don't become portals) are probably just drawn to the presence of mudokons. And if I saw a circle of birds my first thought wouldn't be, "Oh no! They'll become a portal through which my slaves could escape!" The glukkons clearly aren't familiar with Mudokon Mysticism.

For the MO transports I have no excuse.

T-nex 08-26-2004 07:56 AM

No but Glukkons have cameras everywhere, they can see that abe uses the birds to make Muds dissappear

Esus 08-26-2004 10:14 AM

Just a gameplay feature like the possession visibility. You can be sure such teleports wouldn't feature in novels or movies ;)

Volsung 08-26-2004 10:52 AM

:

Right. This is probably just another symptom of the crunch-time on MO. Well-played.

As for the birds, don't we run them off and find them returning? They aren't bound by natural physics, so I think it might be harder to get rid of them than just running them off. Probably some kind of portal suppressor would be required.

Esus 08-26-2004 11:12 AM

perhaps there's a point of mystic energy in certain points around the land (which the glukkons built their factories over, like the wells) and birds are naturally attracted to these points?

Cyber-Slig 08-27-2004 03:27 AM

Which would attract the birds. The gluks either don't care about them or they weren't there before

caracal 08-27-2004 05:57 AM

sligs are humans at heart...you probably have a friend that is crazy about always getting the lastest processor PC or the lastest cellphone, palm, console, etc. that is too worried about having more than everyone else to actually get a life.

that is what sligs represent, they mind is too busy thinking that their buddy got a new armor upgrade, or a new uzi and they didnt, to even think about why the magog gives them weapons, or how they could get weapons whitout them, or even consider the thought that the world is unfair.Besides, the gluks dont even allow them to sleep, they have to do it undercovers to get away with it...if you are underslept you cant ever think right, I imagine they'd be too busy trying to get sleep to do any philosfical thinking, and the few moments they are fully awake, they are spending all their energy thinking about the next upgrade.

how much weapons they have is all they are, if they dont have the biggest weapon, they feel they are a failure, and get depressed, so as all the sligs always know someone who's got more than them, every slig is always too busy thinking about how to get the next upgrade, and still sleep to think about anything else. I think the most long-term thinking they will ever do is if their fav team will win the championship :p.

that's for magog-owned guard sligs anyway, I dont really know how the newscaster or valet's employment works.

and yeah, pretty much every race in woddworld is majorily stupid, but that's OW's message, every race represnts one of our aspects, and OWI's showing us all how stupid the world is, by using humor and characters we dont take seriously, it's the oldest thing in the world, Jesters were the only ones allowed to tell the truth in the court.

And their representation isnt even all that exagerated, you could find an example of all of the cruelties going on in oddworld in some part of human history. it is particularily amazing for me how similar we are to vykkers...I think vykkers even fall short at representing the cruelties human scientists get away with.

besides, gluks and vykkers are nobodies anyway, even maggie has to report to the chroniclers, the chronichlers are the highest in the chain of command of OW as far as we know, sligs could never manage a factory well enough to put up with the chronichler's demands.

Esus 08-27-2004 06:20 AM

To be honest, I didn't like the fact that the valet and newscaster were sligs. I thought they should be a new race, one which prominantly features on Mudos TV. People don't want something as ugly as a slig giving the news or butlering a roch guy.

Stranger 08-27-2004 06:22 AM

Sligs are the stupidest one in Oddworld, they keep falling for same thing. They make me laugh most of the time lol.

Fuzzle Guy 08-27-2004 06:26 AM

On MO the sligs do notice that a fellow slig has been possesed. Either that or they just shoot you for the hell of it!!!

Wil 08-28-2004 02:35 AM

Sligs in MO don't notice, they just start shooting at you when you shoot them, or after you've insulted one three times. It's AO where, most of the time, Sligs can tell that their comrade is possessed. Alf has attributed this to Abe's lack of experience, which caused Sligs to stumble about and have a glazed expression.

Regarding Sligs as the Newscaster and Valet, I suppose in some ways it makes little sense as Glukkons see Sligs are being ugly (so why they'd use them to host their news programmes I don't know). But then, on the other hand, I don't know that creating a whole race just for media types would be useful. Each industrial species is meant to represent a factor of human society, and money-grubbing Glukkons, status-obsessed Sligs, sadistic Vykkers and head-in-the-clouds Interns all assume a definite role. Would a species dedicated to the glitziness and glamour of the media be so worthwhile?

Cyber-Slig 08-28-2004 06:00 AM

Well sligs are the only choice.A glukkon is too rich to host a TV show.Vykkers are too busy with experiments.Interns are too stupid and even if you did cut open his stitches he would probably talk trash. And I just noticed another silly thing. Why is it when you possess an intern (Its hard but I have even possessed an armoured intern) and insult a vykker with ''mpmmphmphh'' he will day ''What?I have never been so insulted!'' . Me and my friend laughed at that for ages. What is with that?

Fuzzle Guy 08-28-2004 08:30 AM

[QUOTE=Max the Mug]Sligs in MO don't notice, they just start shooting at you when you shoot themQUOTE]

But I don't go anywhere near them!

Wil 08-28-2004 09:24 AM

Cyber-Slig, either Vykkers can become accustomed to the Interns' muffled language (you can definitely hear that something is being said) that they can understand it, or OWI just plain didn't have time to program better interaction in the GameSpeak.

Fuzzle Guy, where in MO has this happened. I've never known Sligs to fire on each other without provocation.
