I've got a broad musical palette - I can listen to everything from rock and roll, hard rock, and speed metal to chill out, classical and golden oldies, going through most things in between. The only things I'd say I'm not so fond of are a lot of techno and hip-hop stuff that's done nowadays. They just seem so dull and repetative, and totally without energy or mood. There are, of course exceptions.
Utada Hikaru is fantastic. :D |
I've got a lot of bands that I've been following for a long time, most of them are heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, or Anthrax and the others are sort of like jam/funk bands like Faith No More, Primus, Govt. Mule, Phish, Parliament Funkadelic etc. I'm not really that much into rap except for "old Skool" stuff like Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A, etc. and the preference is clearly towards West Coast Gangsta rap.

I like Outcast a lot. They make music so different from everything else. I want to buy the CD, but i can't find it in the stores :( .
I also like Enya. Her music, is more relaxing. I just like to sit down and listen to it, without doing anything, or while i'm drawing and computing. |
R'n'B and HipHop

I listen to all kinds of music. I kinda like it all (as far as country goes though, I only like the Dixie Chicks. Everyone else just gets under my skin.) I guess my favorites are Punk and New Age.

I am a huge fan of electronic/synthesizer music. Not the crappy dance-techno type, but I mean the real awesome kind, with a melody and all. It all depends on who you listen to - it can be a hit or miss with synth music. Some artists are absolutely amazing (Digital Unicorn, Lederhosen Lucil, The Moog Cookbook, Eric Serra) but some are horrible (DJ Encore, need I say more?) I really enjoy 8-bit, bit music, but sometimes that restricts the artist too much. So 16-bit is cool in my book too.
I am also a big fan of 1st wave and 2nd wave ska, the occasional unique rock and roll, orchestral music, classical piano and a bit of (I hate to use this term) punk. Not today's standards of "punk" (i.e. Green Day, Blink182, Yellowcard, etc.) but some good ol' fashioned cookings, like Bad Religion and the Dead Kennedys. So yes that is my life story. |
Frank Zappa
P-Funk Miles Davis John Coltrane Primus Ween Dylan Banowetz. Mmm, that's good shit. Marilyn Manson is terrible. Muse isn't very good either. (now preparing for a wave of angry Muse-fellating posts) |
I'm not much of one into metal or hard rock. S'pose that makes me outcasted here. Somewhat. Ish.
I like, for the most part, "good" rock. Good, being used as a reference to uniqueness, decent sound, intelligent playing, and incorporation of inspiration instead of blatant inference. It's easy enough to lay down a heavy drum beat and fill in some chords/vocals. It's hard to create and capture a sound of your own. I also have a taste for some of the "punk" out there, similar to Mac, and ska is alwas good. Good ol' classic rock is also nice. I adore classical music, and the occasional out of the ordinary band. Short list: Pearl Jam Collective Soul Bush (First album, at least. It's blatantly generic, yet so well done you can't hate it) Stone Temple Pilots Billy Corgan's good stuff. Good early stuff in Smashing Pumpkins, crap later on, good stuff in Zwan. Less Than Jake The Who The Beatles Soul Coughing Bad Religion The Rolling Stones Emerson, Lake & Palmer C.C.R. Van Halen The Allman Brothers Blues Brothers The Suicide Machines (Once again, everything after first album is crap) Polyphonic Spree (On principle, mainly. "Light & Day" is catchy enough, but not much else appeals to me. But methinks I would enjoy seeing the group in concert. C'mon, a 30+ person pop band. Can't get better than that.) And lets not forget the mighty Layla sessions. The result of drugs and musical brilliance is so greatly impressive. It's title track is surely one of the best rock songs ever. Mmm... Ear candy. So, what don't I like? Generic "punk". Generic "ska". Generic "rock". Really, there is no defining line. But there's a good deal of poo out there. For the most part, I don't like metal. Or, at least vocalization in it. Rap/Hip hop does virtually nothing for me. Most pop is laughable. Heavier rock is good, to a point. But I typically enjoy a much lighter atmosphere for music. Ah, what else. Some country is good. Some isn't. And no electronica style music, please. Some synth is quite cool. Much sucks. Just like some synth in rock music is cool, and some isn't. |

metallica, slipknot, sum41 and nirvana
but unfortunately is well im starting to like crap bands, such as outkast, heeeeeey yaaaaaa! black eyed peas with the perverted woman and three of a kind with babycakes (c'mon like who doesnt like the video for it...) |
The Rasmus
The Darkness Slipknot - ill push my fingers into my eyes :P (yes its called duality) Blink182 Nirvana RHCP's Mostly rock and heavy metal. |
Duality was actually fairly good quality. I gotta hand that one to Slipknot.
Still don't think it redeems them though. |
I might as well. Everyone else is doing it.
The "main" bands I listen to. Every now and then I'll come across something else that I like, but not frequently enough to list it as a "favorite band." Despite the fact that I can almost always segregate my favorite bands into a particular genre, I'm actually rather open-minded when it comes to music. The Misfits (feat. Glenn Danzig) Green Day Dead Kennedys Jello Biafra Circle Jerks Black Flag (feat. anyone but Henry Rollins) NOFX Rancid (Before Tim turned into a pussy.) Bad Religion Flogging Molly (or the slightly less cool Dropkick Murphys) G.B.H. The Toy Dolls The Exploited The Soviettes (Or Tsunami Bomb... or any fem punk band. They all sound the same.) Pinhead Gunpowder The Network The Aquabats! Shonen Knife The Pillows MC Chris I'll stop now. That's more than enough. You guys don't care about my local bands... I'm sure you've never heard of them. Heh... If you can't tell, I listen to punk (call it what you want, but you have to call it something), random rock, and some slightly obscure pop/J-pop. Bands I'm just... meh... "OK" with: The Adicts Nekromantix Danzig EDIT: Argh! Must quit adding bands! |
I've recently started listening to Depech Mode, they are quiet good. Personal Jesus and I Feel You are the best so far.
|
i mostly just listen to rock.............
