Featured: Brave New World (XBN Transcript / Scans)

Credit goes to both Oddworld-Web and Oddworld Universe.

Featured: Brave New World (20th August 2004)
In conjunction with Oddworld-Web, we are both proud to present the first transcript and images of the recently published Oddworld: Stranger feature article in September's issue of Xbox Nation. This neatly typed feature, transcripted and scanned by oddguy (of Oddworld-Web), formatted and presented by Alcar (of Oddworld Universe) contains never before seen images of the next Oddworld game, and an insight into the development and creation.

Finally, we've got it up! We've been waiting for ages to get this up and done. And we both spent hellish amounts of time getting it completed. Oddguy and I both hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did.

Disclaimer: The custom Live Ammo cut-outs belong to Oddworld Universe and Oddworld-Web (as they are our own modifications). They took forever to properly do, and we want the respect of them remaining our property. The scans may be used, although credit must appear to both Oddworld-Web and Oddworld Universe.

Brilliant work. Great screens, great article, and really great live ammo pictures. :)

oddguy 08-20-2004 05:38 AM

It was absolute torture to see you guys asking if somebody had scans of XBN and knowing that I did, but kept silent as to not spoil the surprise. :crying:

Anyway, I hope the opporitunity presents itself to have another Oddworld-Web/Oddworld-Universe Feature in the future. Not too soon though...Alcar had a lot of trouble getting those Live Ammo pics to look good. ;)

I offer you both a great big round of applause, because that is great work. I actually managed to read the article earlier, but the presentation and work on the images are supreme. Top work, guys.

I do notice it's hosted on Oddworld Universe, though. I had hoped Oddworld-Web would get it, since that hasn't had any real crowd-pullers in a while. Oh well. Well done to you both once again.

MojoMan220 08-20-2004 05:50 AM

Wow, that forest area looks jaw-dropping! I can't wait to read the article. Thanks a bunch!

oddguy 08-20-2004 05:53 AM

The Live Ammo images are pixelated to fit Alcar's background on Oddworld-Universe. I very well couldn't have hosted the feature on Oddworld-Web with the pictures having brownish specs on a black background.

Lovely, just lovely, thank you Alcar!

It was oddguy too. A very large part of it was done by him :) I know the pain of typing transcripts, and he deserves a great deal of praise. I just did the images and made it fit into OWU's feature's styles.

It's great to see that everyone loves it! And yes, you can expect more joint projects in the future sometime. Though not often. Otherwise the novelty wears off :p

Alcar is too nice. He did a lot of work aswell.

Anyway...look at this page.

"Don't mistake Oddworld for a BioWare adventure; while your actions have consequences, they will not affect the outcome of the game."

What's this all about? Has Oddworld canned the idea of having both a good and bad ending?

Discuss!

Alcar 08-20-2004 06:11 AM

Yes! I'd forgotten all about that quote. It made me somewhat confused, as Lorne made it clear to everyone in the EA Press Event, that even little things like annoying Clakkerz too much would offer different outcomes later on in the game.

I honestly believe Mr. Shamoon has accidentally wrote the wrong thing. Does anyone know of BioWare? Is it very linear? Or is it a game where actions have consequences?

Alcar...

oddguy 08-20-2004 06:23 AM

BioWare is the developer behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic...or KOTOR as some call it. I'm sure you've heard of it. Anyway, I've played the game, and it is quite good. Deep storyline. There are sometimes multiple choices for a certain situation and such.

Really though, I'm quite confused on what Shamoony is talking about. Oddworld is all about consequences. If he's saying that you can go beat up clakkers and not get a bad ending if you continue that behavior...that is just lame.

Esus 08-20-2004 08:37 AM

I think it means becoming more truely evil and actually having alternative end gameplay.
In KOTOR, the end of your game depends on whether you're evil or good, and you play that ending.
In AO/AE/MO, out actions didn't technically change the outcome of the game. The levels were still exactly the same, but they did change the outcome of the cutscenes.

Perhaps Stranger won't have multiple ending cutscenes, I'm just speculating.

I love the new pics!
can't wait to have them in good quality!
so much to read!

I think I will buy the magazine tomorrow, and have it all!
why did I have vacation just now?

Dualist 08-23-2004 06:13 PM

Thank you god for fans, espicially you guys! Man the article and everything was awesomely done. In fact I may just pic up the XBN mag no matter what even if I did see the scans...I want to see that forest shot upclose.

Thanks again guys! :D

I just have got the XBN today!
this article is very well written and I'm glad to finally know what Live ammo is what...

but I realy wonder what this building could be :fuzconf:

Statikk HDM 08-24-2004 06:14 AM

Mckenna says that
Abe was weak. Weak? That brother was ripped to shreds! Another thing, 5000 voice clips? How cool is that? One last thing: Learning about zappflies was great. Really good job Oddguy and Alcar!

oddguy 08-24-2004 09:19 AM

Yeah, I know what you mean. Abe had to be pretty fit to run full speed off a ledge and catch the other side. Also, he did a lot of climbing and jumping. I think he was in good shape. But, I think McKenna means that Abe wouldn't do well in a melee type situation...when Stranger could.

I thought Statikk was implying that McKenna has overstated Abe, that he was weaker than McKenna said... *shrug*

Wil 08-24-2004 11:06 AM

Depends what the phrase "That brother was ripped to shreds!" is meant to mean.

I had always wondered that. Abe was supposed to be weak, yet was always seen leaping about the place like a little blue maniac. I suppose he's got stamina and agility but no strength. Mudokons would have to be durable to work under the Glukkons.

caracal 08-24-2004 03:51 PM

in the context of videogame heros Abe is the flimsiest most pathetic guy ever, Abe just has the lowest strength acceptable for a VG character, I think that's what she meant

Xavier 08-24-2004 11:29 PM

that's true caracal... I also believe she wants to point out Abe is not strong enough to directly damage his enemies (guns; melee atacks)

caracal 08-25-2004 08:39 AM

Yeah, I think that's most definitively what she meant

I did have a lot of fun slapping the hell out of sligs in AE tho, you can go away impune if you do it in the shadows :p funniest thing ever, I even rescued that one mud in the first path of AE by bitchslapping the slig, and gamespeaking the mud out of the scren while the slig was knocked down

oddguy 08-25-2004 12:05 PM

I see what you guys mean. Also...Abe lived the "one hit and you're dead" rule that most old-school games followed.

-oddguy

Do you know many old school games with the "one hit and you're dead" rule?
I only know Oddworld... :fuzconf:

caracal 08-25-2004 02:30 PM

every sidescrolling shooter in history for one? :p

or take pac-man....contra

Xavier 08-26-2004 08:09 AM

was duke nukem like that?
I allways tought all the old school games had an "energy bar" feature
silly me :D
