Im planning to get it ASAP (to me thats tomorrow). Seince I have a few errands to take care of I'll stop by and pick it up. Then scan some pic's as fast as I can, someone will most likely beat me to it however.

MojoMan220 08-11-2004 06:19 PM

Oh good, When they said October I thought we would have to wait months! Somebody scan those pages quick, I need new info!

sligster 08-11-2004 06:24 PM

DAMNIT! I just went to the store and they don't have it in yet...

wait.. is it out yet?

Sekto Springs 08-11-2004 06:40 PM

Oddguy already posted a thread with the same link.

Dipstikk 08-11-2004 06:40 PM

Yeah! I'm so getting that after Hurricane Charlie is gone. If there's anything left...
*dramatic music*

I thought they were going to put a whole new Stranger pic on the cover! Oh well...

sligster 08-11-2004 06:44 PM

ok... I was just confused as to why their releasing the October issue in August.

Nate 08-11-2004 09:13 PM

the different mags used to compete over who could have their editions out earlier in the month. Then they started releasing it in the last week of the previous month. Things snowballed and now we have the october issue in august.

Its quite common and I think its just one of the reasons why the human race should be exterminated for terminal stupidity.

Alcar 08-11-2004 10:21 PM

I think it's entirely stupid and moronic. I think a week or less before the beginning of a new month is fine, but more than a month?! I went investigating to see if people had reported it wrong, but alas, nothing turned up. Even the official XBN site doesn't mention anything about a magazine date.

Either way, it's great to see Stranger appearing as a cover story for a magazine. First Polygon, now XBN! Fantastic! Although, I was expecting a better cover. Alf's Anonymous said that Raymond Swanland was creating a cover piece, perhaps XBN deliberately chose to use the older Stranger image. I've also sent my father out hunting for the magazine on his way home, I informed him that it was probably only available in the USA, but it couldn't hurt to look.

I hope I will be able to find it, or else I will just have to wait until someone scans the pics.

true Alcar, that's an old picture, but maybe the background is new, ok it isn't very much.
Or maybe there is another mag

Fuzzles! 08-13-2004 08:38 AM

That's a really encouraging sign...thank you I must pick that up!!! :)

ANN NEELY 08-18-2004 07:01 AM

I heart OW!

I got the magazine last night! If I can get the scanner working, I'll scan the pages. :)

Wil 08-18-2004 07:25 AM

Hey, that's great news ANN NEELY. :D

Don't hesitate to get that scanner working! We've been waiting a long time see the article. I'm surprised no one else has got it yet.

Oddsville 08-18-2004 09:34 AM

Well I just bought the magazine aswell and all I can say is that pics are great. There one of a forest type of enviorment and it looks incredibly detailed. Just like the Spooceshrub forest level begining we saw in MO. Im going to post some pics in a few minutes then possibly put up a transcript later.

Edit- Ok I got a couple scanned I just need a site to host them now.

Esus 08-18-2004 10:09 AM

pic host :D :D

oddguy 08-18-2004 12:01 PM

I've had the magazine for a few days now, but decided against posting pictures after AA's recent warning of needing permission for that G-Phoria video I was going to post. The same applies to a magazine I expect.

However...Alcar has been e-mailing and trying to get permission.

Alcar 08-19-2004 12:31 AM

Yes, you aren't allowed to post any of the screens without permission from Xbox Nation. You'll have to contact them, though I doubt your chances of getting a response very quickly. I emailed them twice, to two different addresses, the first one nearly a week ago. I haven't received a response from them at all yet.

Posting such images will be deleted, and a warning issued, as doing so without the proper permission from Xbox Nation puts us in the direct line of fire for copyright / privacy law breaking. As oddguy mentioned, we still haven't been able to post the G-Phoria movies. And it's been even longer XBN that we've been waiting.

Alcar...

Wil 08-19-2004 01:02 AM

This has never stopped us scanning in pictures before. XBN's delayed responce clearly demonstrates how concerned they are over the matter. What's the sudden obsession?

Alcar 08-19-2004 01:58 AM

We've never had Alf or Alf's Assistant come in and say we couldn't put up videos or images. Before then, yes, we've been free to do it. Now, however, as soon as it is posted, I'd expect a swift message from Alf / Alf's Assistant for us to take it down.

If you remember, all official Oddworld fansites must follow a set of rules set by Oddworld Inhabitants. They've been lax on it before, so I don't know why the sudden interest in privacy / copyright laws. Either way, it's a right pain to have to email for permission. But Oddworld Inhabitants have the power to 'ex-communicate' us.

I think the problem lay primarily with video recording a television program without the programs permission.
We've already scanned and shown loads of Stranger stuff from various magazines, so this shouldn't be no different.

Actually, that was on my mind the entire day. That Oddworld Inhabitants were referring primarily to videos. Especially those taken straight from a Television show. I guess the Magazine companies can't afford as good as lawyers as the TV companies ;)

I guess you can post them, to anyone that has them. Has Max mentioned earlier, they seem not to give a cow about it - what from their lazy response times. I guess we can finally release all the stuff we've been waiting to release :D

I noticed this:

:

You have a culture with an ax to grind, and they’re mad at those that have been their oppressors. There’s also something noble about helping the little guy, especially when you can see how these underdogs have been mistreated by a bunch of fortunate ignoramuses

I think we can probably assume that the underdogs are the Salamanders. After all the hickens don't really sound like underdogs - they've got the money to hire Stranger after all.

But what if Stranger's big realisation is that he's been on the wrong side all along? What if the oppressors are actually the Hickens? Maybe they've been mistreating the Sals (imagine 19th century villagers, suspicious of gypsies) and are building the dam themselves. Obviously the outlaws have something to do with it because The Looten Duke said "Blood may be thicker than water, but water's where the Moolah is at!" but maybe the whole thing is more complicated than we thought.

This is pure speculation I know, but tell me what you think...

Volsung 08-24-2004 09:21 AM

That's the beginning of an interesting theory, Nate. It could be that the hickens are rudimentary industrialists, and the outlaws are simply competing for the resources. Maybe they aren't even really Outlaws at all, but because the hickens have towns, perhaps the "civilized" majority, and enough money to hire enforcement of some kind, they've decided to get rid of the new guys. (and or old guys, meaning salamanders and blobs) It could be a racial thing, the hickens feel that only hickens can be judicous resource managers and all other species need to be subjugated.

Out of character, but possible. It would reinforce the idea that exploitation is perpetuated by ignorance. If the hickens believe in a unilateral definition of "civilization" then its quite possible a naive adherence to outdated beliefs would justify the eradication or removal of competitors. Sort of a "manifest destiny" thing.

That had nothing to do with the xbox nation exclusive. But they did include a little bar of all the live ammo things and their uses. To stay a little more on topic....

caracal 08-24-2004 02:58 PM

I think...you all need to stop speculating about the plot, or you are bound to get disappointed by the actual plot, I say this because it's happened to me several times, get your mind off of it, think about the plot when you already know it...not before.

Xavier 08-24-2004 10:33 PM

caracal, I'm with you about that!
stop speculating too much, and base huge theories about the plot of the story, how could you know?

BTW, you should type "Blood may be thicker than water" in google
I've got 16,900 results for 16,900 "Blood is thicker than water" only :p

Nate 08-25-2004 12:45 PM

well it is a famous phrase.

Caracel you're completely right. As I was writing my last post I knew that I was breaking my self-imposed 'no-speculation' rule but I did it anyway.
