I'm a little busy at the moment, so I'll quote from the Meetle / Mug page of Oddworldian, while it was online. Credit obviously goes to Sydney :)

:

At birth, these creatures start as a small grub often referred to as a larvae. At this point in the life cycle, their outcome completely relies on their diet and how they are trained. If you choose to feed them a diet of vegetables and seeds, the larvae will grow into a Meetle.

Meetles are peaceful and resemble the order of earth Insecta known as Coleoptera. The Mudokons have been known to use Meetles as air vehicles working in a similar fashion to hot air balloons; they have inflatable bodies. Meetles are often used as animals of combat that can be fitted with a variety of different contraptions, each serving a different purpose. Often they are used as terrestrial vehicles as well as being air-borne.

If larvae are fed a diet of animal meat and are trained with aggression, the larvae will undergo metamorphosis and emerge as a Mug. Mugs are aggressive and Glukkons equip them with weapons and armour.

does meetles have the function of ELUM now??

Xavier 08-07-2004 10:34 AM

you mean you can ride on them...
well perhaps, but I doubt it will be as fast and as easy as the Elum

At least meetles can fly, and mabey there might be meetles who swim.Like a boat.

Possible. It was never determined whether Meetles only ever had herbivorous and carnivorous outcomes, the first of which could become a balloon, or whether there were a number of different resulting forms a growing Meetle could develop into. One wonders what, precisely, the Meetle would have to eat to become a balloon or a boat.
