Icons/Avatars linked to the internet???
Hiya,
I was just wondering why you can't link your Avatar/Icon to an internet address, rather than uploading it. This would solve the problem of some Avatars/Icons being to big to upload. If it's too much trouble don't worry about it, but if you could do that it would be good ;) ~Miss Odd |

It's not the problem of upload space on the server, it's the download time on the receiver and the bandwidth of the server. vBulletin just doesn't allow remotely hosted avatars by default. I don't know for sure, but I think the reason was because of image failure checking, or image size / dimensions checking, that could only be done on the server side rather than an off-site server.
Yeah, it could be anything :p Alcar... |
Actually, Invisionboard allows you to link to an avatar that is not hosted on the forum. I'm not sure how it gets around the image checking and the like. But with vBulletin it takes the URL and then uploads the image into the database instead.
Different forums, different methods of handling something I guess. Abe Babe... |

You must enter a URL and you cannot browze for them. |
So it's not possible...? Dammmmit... Oh well ;) Maybe later on when vBulletin upgrades :P
