"Stranger" is the official title? / Will EA have any involvment...

Ok so is "Stranger" the official title, or is it going to be changed? To me, it sounds awesome the way it is. Don't change a thing.

Will EA have any involvment with Oddworld to change parts of the game?

Like EA might take things out or whatever? Can they do that as a publisher?

Thanks.

1) We don't know if the title is going to change, I like it the way it is
2) They can maybe change a couple of names or irevelent things, but I don't think so
3) They chose the release date, they also handle the marketing campaign of the game, and I suspect they are the ones who asked Oddworld to also release the game on PS2

Stranger sound's a bit boring to me. Mabey a name of country, Like Troy.

Xavier 07-05-2004 11:26 AM

how about "Oddworld: Stranger"
there is the name of the "country"

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 11:34 AM

I don't think the continents are broken into countries on Oddworld. Thus the game would be named just "Mudos" which would be pointless seeing how as all the previous games also take place on Mudos.

Oddish 07-05-2004 11:42 AM

Mudos is a continent, it may have country's. The envroment has river's, and locations.Or something like Wild Wild West.(eeee!)

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 11:54 AM

Well, I guess there's always Necrum, Paramonia, Scrabania, etc. I suppose those fall along the lines of different countries but I never really thought of them that way.

Nate 07-05-2004 12:34 PM

I always thought of them as being general regions, like the Sahara Desert - there isn't an official line of where the desert starts and ends.

also regarding EA's power over the game. It says in AIA
:

The PRODUCERS Scot and Josh have been keeping communication between production and the execs through the weekly leads meeting. Josh has been editing together a 2 minute story reel of Stranger for the EA execs to see.

so obviously EA has some input, or at least approval over the game. Its probably more a veto power than any actual artistic control

Xavier 07-05-2004 10:25 PM

Josh mentioned here is probably Josh Heeren, who is Floor Producer for Oddworld's 4th game. read his interview here: http://www.oddworld.com/oddworld/com...ts18_bio.shtml

this guy works for OWI since at least Munch's Oddysee, so I doubt he is suddenly working for EA

Producers and Publishers aren't te same.

and when they said editing, I think he was making a trailer with lots of intresting bit in it, to amaze EA once again

Nate 07-06-2004 12:28 PM

Yes, thats just what I meant. Josh from OWI (as a producer) put together some bits and pieces of Stranger to show off to EA execs from around the world

Xavier 07-06-2004 10:37 PM

hmmmm, yeah that's how I understood it too.

what kind of Veto do you think they can put?

Nate 07-07-2004 12:46 PM

I meant they could probably not say to OWI "hey we think the game would be great if you added some dirty great topless hickens with tits out to HERE" but if OWI had put in something they considered inappropriate they would be able to say "take out that glukkon with the eerie resemblance to Dubya or we won't publish the game". Or to put in another way; they can take things out but not add them in.

disclaimer: This is my guess based on general knowledge about the publishing industry. As Shultz would say "I know nothingk!..." about the relationship between OWI and EA. Or anything about topless talking chickens.

Oddworld's political boundaries are not identical to Earth's. Mudos is something between a continent and a country. At first it was just called a country (and given a size similar to that of Nigeria), but they've been calling it a continent for ages. Either they upped the importance of Mudos (thereby going against original official word), or just haven't been paying attention, like much of Alf's amusing drivel.

Come to me and I'll call it a country. :p

Software Bug 08-07-2004 05:53 AM

i agree wih max. BUT that theyve calling it a continent is it true>>??<< because i never heard abe or munch say the word continal ,
on the map oddworld they say continal of oddworld so this could be right.

Wil 08-07-2004 10:27 AM

Abe and Munch have never called it a continent, but then they've never even refered to Mudos. However, the old Oddworld.com described it well in its History text:

:

Another thing to understand about Oddworld - specifically with regard to size - is that the stuff we're seeing now (and will continue to see for a while) is taking place in a very small part of this planet called Mudos. While the breakdown of territory on Oddworld has no real parallel in our world, it's best to think of Mudos as a sort of country - its social landscape is sculpted from a variety of lifeforms (i.e. Glukkons, Sligs, Mudokons, etc.) that may not (and probably aren't) representative of the whole of Oddworld. Think of it as the dirtiest, most morally bankrupt city you can imagine (kinda' like Bevery Hills, without all the face lifts and tummy tucks).
