Warcraft - Oddworld resemblance
just a thought... Stranger's animal form looks alot like the Keeper of the Grove hero from Warcraft 3. .........just a thought...
|
What? Just because Stranger has a centaur type design? I don't see the resemblance.
-oddguy  |
centaur with horns.
hmm same design idea but nothing more |
I saw the second image on display at Blizzard's E3 booth, but it didn't strike any resemblance to Stranger for me. It appears to be more based on a mythological creature, where as Stranger's form seems more unique IMO.

Are we even sure that the centaur form is still being used? I mean, that'd be one helluva transformation to go from having 2 legs to 4. Not to mention painful.
I wouldn't be surprised if OWI scrapped the whole centaur idea somewhere along the lines. |
Nope, OWI could indeed have gone a whole different route since the X-Factor was filmed. They commented at the time on how they wouldn't comment on that direction.
|
He quoted "The horns aren't completely finalised, like to run some tests first", meaning that the four-legged form may be scrapped depending on what Lorne thinks. But if they did scrap it, they'd be scrapping alot, seeing as of all the gameplay and CG they finished with him involved. But, if the form is scrapped, wouldn't the whole "get to know him and find out he's completely different" scenario be pointless?
|
The two concept images certainly look somewhat similar, but I doubt Oddworld Inhabitants purposely copied ideas. Though they do draw things from different sources. But, as far as I knew, wasn't Halo one of the in-house favourites at OWI? :p

No, we didn't see any gameplay with the 2 legged Stranger. Just an FPS segment that's inconclusive.
|
Check the X-factor preview video. The scene where he's being shot at and running away, he clearly only has 2 legs. And I said CG anyways, not gameplay.
|
hmmm, I guess we will have to wait for announcements, but the 4legged for looks very good
remember everything that we saw may be cut, so don't have too high hopes ;) |
I like the Stranger design now, and I'm still looking forward to the centaur-like transformation. I hope they keep the idea.

The Centaur design was the best bit about Stranger, i'll be really displeased if they do scrap the idea.
Saying that, i'd rather see it scrapped then have some amazing transformation come about or Stranger throw a cloack off himself to reveal a Horses body - 'cos that's just a tad unbelievable. |
they won't change it now, not after its one of the few things we know about him...
|
Esus, I'm not sure the fact they showed us something is a proof it will not change...
the design of some guys on the christmass card has changed |
:
What do you mean by that? |
Not by much yeah there are subtle changes in the designs of some characters but not by much from my point of view. Stranger still remains the same and I believe the centaur design will still be in the game. Lorne himself said we are supposed to get connected to him before we find out who he really is. Thats whats Stranger is all about right?
|
That's what it was about then. That was 21 months ago, though. Even when X-Factor was televised, all that material, and all those ideas, were over 8 months old. I seem to remember at that time OWI refused to comment on what direction the game had taken since the footage was shot - which somewhat implies that they could have taken any number of directions, some of which do not involve centaurish designs and transformations. I realise it must be hard to imagine, but just look at that time frame again. We're approaching almost 2 years since that.
I just really don't want anyone to get upset if they do exclude something from the game that we've already seen. It happened with Munch - much of the early info we were given was accompanied with taglines such as "this may change in the future," (thinking about it, I don't remember Lorne of all people ever uttering that), and yet everyone was utterly unprepared for just how much was 'missing'. I dare say shedloads of what we'd heard about was left out of the game for reasons other than technical difficulties and deadlines to meet. |
I hear ya, Max.
Well, even if Stranger doesn't transform into a centaur design...I love the newly released pic. So as long as he stays that way...I'm happy. -=[oddguy  |
Yes, even though it's doubtful (in my mind anyway) that the centaur design is in the scrapping-path, I honestly like Stranger's two-legged form over the other.
|
I liked the centaur design in the concept art, but the short gameplay footage of stranger in centaur mode(shown on X-factor) scared me off. Looked like he was tapdancing with his hooves. Not the graceful movements I'd imagine someone with a horse body to have.

I hope the movement of Stranger is like Jak's, fluid. I think it would fit Stranger's character. You know?
|
Exactly. I've always admired the way Jak moves. I love the way his arms move when he jumps. Very cat-like.
That's why it bugged me when Abe jumped in MO. He just curls into a little ball. Blah! AO/AE got it right though. -oddguy  |
I think if Stranger had the same fluidity as Jak in Jak II, Renegade it would be so cool! Jak moves seamlessly from one move to the other, and I havent encountered a single glitch with it. I agree with SligSlinger though, I think his two legged form looks best. (Like in the attached pic). I think it would just be harder in general to make a seamlessly moving character that had four legs. Like the pic, for example, how could something with four legs get in that position? It would be a glitch fest waiting to happen
|
But if it wil be the "same" as Jak & Jak II it wont be a special species for oddworld.
I mean if they are both the same idea , same things it wont be a nice game. Off course OWI want to make a "special NON seen" creature and not that somebody notice like : hey thats a cool game it looks like JAK III!!!!! |
Erm, you seem to have gone into your own little moo-moo land there. We said 'if he moves with the same FLUIDITY as Jak', not 'if he moves like Jak' or 'if he looks like Jak'. We never said anything about the games resembling each other in any way, or the characters being the same. An elfy person in Oddworld? I think not. Read the posts properly.
