Vacation... hurray? (PICTURES - no 56k)

I'm taking a short leave of absence for a family vacation. Now, before you guys say anything, I already know you'll miss me. :|

We'll be going to New Orleans, which is cool. After that, I'll be in Alabama... for reasons that are only clear to my father. "There's a beach!" he says. Yeah, Alabama is also the gun-totinist, inbredinist, humidinist hell hole in the South. Hurrah.

Bah, I'll need this thread again in three weeks anyway...

Oh and all you other 'Merkans and holiday-enjoying types feel free to share your summer plans as well, aight?

New Orleans eh? Buy any Voodoo Dolls?

SeaRex 05-30-2004 11:14 AM

---------- 56K WARNING ----------

:

Buy any Voodoo Dolls?

Hell no. New Orleans is 90% trinket shop; it's the same crap at the exact same price in every damn shop. I came across two places that "specialized" in Voodoo, but they were just overpriced junk stands. However, I did find one shop that was truly authentic, but I didn't have time to go in... and to be honest, I was a wee bit intimidated. ^_^

But I found a cool comic book by a local artist, so hurray! Oh, and also... I FOUND HOT SAUCE!!! I lurves me some spicey food. About 12 bottles were bought between my father and I. No joke.

My brother took the picture. It's all blurry.

Anywho, New Orleans. Steamboat tour (lame), carriage tour (decent), fanboat swamp tour (cool), etc. Good food. But my favorite part of the trip was visiting a good ole' New Orleans graveyard; they have to bury their dead above ground because of tradition and the water tables. I'm guessing corpses wouldn't taste very good in the water supply.

Me standing next to the grave(s) of Marie Laveau, the Queen(s) of Voodoo. There were actually three of her, which is why she never seemed to die and could be in more than one place at once.

Cool ethnic grave. This one was for the Italians, I believe.

More of the Italian Sepulcher.

The cemetary gate. Like I said, this was my favorite part of the trip.

After New Orleans, we went to Gulf Shores, Alabama. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but the drive down there was scary. I saw at least five giant white crosses followed by church/compounds. When I say giant, I mean "six stories tall" giant. The crosses gave off a weird vibe, especially since they were pretty much the only buildings in the middle of Alabama/Mississippi. We seriously had trouble finding a gas station.

The water was a very pretty shade of blue and teal. Nice beach, too. Not much swimming because of the violent rip-tide, though. Once again, I made an ass of myself by trying to skimboard. I'm not showing you the pictures.

There was a water park down there. I really like water parks. I'm the dot screaming like a banshee at the bottom of the picture. That slide was insane.

The end.

Ooooh, I've always wanted a Voodoo Doll...just for fun, not torture! :D

Ahhh I love hot sauce. That store looks like heaven. It looks like this store we have here called Chilli Chillis. FULL of crazy hot sauces. I even bought one that had a skull on the top and a black hood and cape, and it was called The Grim Reaper Hot Sauce, and on the label it said "this is your a$$ now." It was delicious! :)

GREAT pics looks like you had a fantastic time! Welcome back!

Summer School.

Gone until monday.

I'm going to take a summer course at the Art Institute in Atlanta. It's in animation... I really don't know what to expect.

Bye.
