New Console - Phantom
A US company called Infinium is producing a new console called Phantom. The big difference between it and the other consoles is that it is really just a very small PC - the controller is a keyboard and a mouse. You'll even be able to play against people playing on PC! The idea is that all PC games publishers will let their games be played on the Phantom as they need no modification to be ported. You just have to download them over broadband by subscription.
"So why don't you just buy a PC?" I hear you ask. The answer is that Infinium is giving the Phantom away for free! You just have to sign up a subscription. Still, we may be facing a repeat of the Xbox mod-chip scandal as the specs are pretty good. 40GB hard drive & 128 graphics card for more info go here: http://gamesindustry.biz/content_pag...e=new&aid=3420 So do you think this will work, or will Infinium be bankrupt within weeks? |
It will fail horribly.
Don't ask me why, I just know it will. |
I'm with Mac.
I never believed the thing was real in the first place. Now that it (probably) exists... I can't say that I'm very impressed. |
Yes, I also agree. Most people would find it difficult and annoying to play a game with a mouse.

Seriously, it's actually easier to hit stuff with a mouse and keyboard. You almost always need aiming aids with console FPSs. (I still like the Xbox S controller more than anything, though.) |

...Its true...Mouse pwnz teh Game Pad for aiming... in FPS's... in third person shooters, its alot better... Myah..
|
This is...odd.
|
it will fail horribly... simple as that.... although it would suck if it did well, and we all are proven wrong... cept for big bro slig, because he is right. it is odd...

I don't see much demand for this. . . Unless you have console gamers who like to play PC games like a console. . . But what'd be the point? You wanna do that, you can just put your PC on the floor.
Ah, I'm not making any sence, am I? I think I should get some sleep, considering it's 4am now and I've been up since 7am yesterday. . . But yeah, for manaul aiming, the mouse is a FAR better tool for aiming with. GTA: Vice City for example, has a firing range bit, where you've gotta completey destroy targets (which have 5 parts) to get points - 1 point for the close target, 2 points for the middle target and 3 points for the distant target. In order to get the rapid fire weapons bonus, you need to clock up a score of 45 or more in the firing range in Downtown's Ammu-Nation within a 2 minute(?) time limit, and you also get a limited ammount of ammo. On the PS2 version, it took me several attempts to get a score of 45, and when I did get 45 it was bang on the mark. However, on the PC version I was clocking up a score of 50 or more on the first attempt. This is because the mouse is a much better for aiming with, rather then the PS2's D-Pad or Analouge Stick. One thing I don't get - How do you play 3D shooters effectively with a PS2 game pad? - DH |

PC gamers would probably get into this system, but I don't happen to be a PC gamer...so I wouldn't buy it. Dude, I think there are too many consoles on the market anyway. It's hard to keep up. I just got Gamecube.

THIS WILL DIE! All investers will go bankrubt and the economic will change for ever! MOuahahaha! Oh....
Anyway, I thought it was just me having problems with the playstation game pads, geuse its just normal. Playstation just sucks :P. X BOX RULE's! |
I too thought it was an internet prank. I think it would have been better to stay that way, as I can't see it having any 'ground' with the competition.
Though, I guess we'll have to wait and see. It could become a hit! Afterall, Nintendo never thought the Playstation would take off, and it did, much to their dismay (especially seeing as they had actually co-created the Playstation with Sony). Alcar... |

Ah yes the phantom, i heard it quite a while ago. If i remember you can't buy games from the shop, you have buy online, witch is pretty bad idea, coz not all peaple have internet.
|
Thats crap, i'd prefer meh PC anyday.
|
It has a good idea...Buying games online. If Xbox Live incorporated that into their system, they'd rule.

Yes, but it's half-impossible and expensive. |
Watch this video.
http://www.e3insider.com/articles/fl...KBSKCOWII.htm# It doesn't look that impossible. -oddguy |
They'd probably have more success if they were a subscription service that let people download games onto their own computers, rather than setting up a whole new console.
