Those jerks at Angelfire!

As some of you may know, angelfire used to be the coolest free-web-space place around. They used to let you host images on their site and link it up for display anywhere. Well now they obviously changed their mind. My banner now isn't my banner anymore. It says, "hosted by angelfire." That's really annoying. Look at what happened to poor OddBlog!

No, my inhousemedia has always been the coolest :p

...but I can see what you're getting at, Whenever I get on Oddblog it always has advertisements like "Start your own blog today and we'll send you a free sporty tote-bag!". Damn pop-ups! Shoot Merlin down I say!

Hobo 05-07-2004 03:42 AM

Ah. bollocks. They figured out I use my site for hosting everything.

Mac the Janitor 05-07-2004 04:32 AM

You guys, use http://www.photobucket.com. It's so much better.

I was just going to suggest that site Mac, I have all of my photos hosted on Photobucket, have for over a year, it's great.

Hobo 05-07-2004 07:40 AM

Bah. I use my proper paid website to host stuff.

www.hobnobgoblin.co.uk

Filled with stuff that I hate.

oddguy 05-20-2004 08:21 PM

I took your advice, Mac, and finally got around to getting a PhotoBucket account. My banner is back up! Yay! How could I ever repay you, Mac? Come here you! Let's go to zee bedroom! :D

Sl'askia 05-21-2004 12:51 AM

uh...I used to use angelfire a couple years back and they have never allowed you to hotlink pics from their sites in my experience.

Bedroom?

Come on oddguy, you know I prefer the elevator.

I had an Angelfire account for a few years and they allowed me to hotlink from them no problem. This was also about 5-6 years ago so they may have changed their policy.

I was able to hotlink. I hotlinked all the time, up until they went and changed their policy on me. I had to re-link all the pictures I had linked on Oddworld-Web yesterday. That really pissed me off, and I'm not even finished. Grrrrr! :flames:

Anywho, OddBlog is still covered in that angelfire stuff. I wonder when they'll fix it?

Aaah I figured as much. What a pain in the a$$. Glad that photobucket is working for you though. I just love it.

Esus 05-21-2004 09:10 AM

I should really change my sig one of these days... But I have to design a new one first.

Alcar 05-21-2004 08:47 PM

I would of thought Xavier could fix the problem, but either he hasn't noticed, or he can't. And Max is taking some time out as it appears (though I could be wrong, but he ain't on the forums anymore).

As far as I knew, Angelfire never allowed off-site hosting either :|

Alcar...

Xavier 05-21-2004 11:06 PM

I should tell Max about those problems, he is the boss... he will know what to do for those pics... :p

yuk oddblog is horrible

Hobo 05-21-2004 11:23 PM

Ah. That'd be because I was hosting the background on Angelfire. I can now host it on my webspace that I paid for if you want. I'll talk it over with you on MSN

That irritating Macromedia Flash popup doesn't exactly improve the already awful layout now does it. :fuzblink:

Hobo 05-22-2004 06:57 AM

Extra cash per year to fix the pop ups? no thanks. My firewall blocks it so I don't see it anyway. Yay.

Wil 05-22-2004 07:03 AM

Good job Xav brought this to my attention, or I wouldn't have noticed it. No amount of not having cache or hard reloading will get rid of the perfectly functioning background from my end. And I'm not about because of GCSEs and other comitments taking up so much time and energy. You all seem to getting on just dandily, though.

hobo and I are sorting it out now. In fact, it should be done. Lemme know if not. Cheers one and all.

Your firewall doesn't block anything except viruses and trojans attempting to gain access to your computer. I think you'll find it's your Internet Explorer settings disallowing Flash.

And by the way - your hosting provider must suck - I can get full banner/ad/popup free DOMAIN and hosting for just $10 a month. That's 20gb transfer, 1gb disk.

Beats the shit out of crappy Verio.

Hobo 05-22-2004 08:57 PM

No, Norton Internet Security has a built in Banner and Ad blocker. So that's why I can't see it. well, I assume that's it as when i turn the ad and pop up blocker off and visit the site it appears. The rest of the time, it doesn't

Codek 05-23-2004 12:10 AM

Norton is shit.

McAfee is way better - at least that doesn't practically take over your computer.

Esus 05-23-2004 08:45 AM

woo, go www.asmallorange.com
Knocks ya'll right outta the water.

That still isn't better than the one I was talking about.

$10 a month for a .com/net/org domain name, 500 POP3 email addresses, 800mb disk, 20gb transfer/bandwidth, NO popups, no adverts.

asmallorange.com HARDLY knocks that out of the water when it doesn't even offer domain name registration.

Wil 05-23-2004 10:58 AM

Aside from the background, OddBlog doesn't look up to scratch in your screenshot, oddguy. The banner's below the archives, which I imagine leaves a huge empty gap in the upper left of the box. That's obviously my fault for pushing for the highest screen resolution possible, but if people are getting duffed layouts, I'll add sorting that out to my list of things to do over the summer.

Esus 05-23-2004 11:03 AM

@Death: well... you get unlimited emails and subdomains. Domain name registration is easy enough somewhere else, you just use aso to host it.

Sekto Springs 05-23-2004 11:12 AM

You guys should just use mine, it costs nothing, and is pop-up free guarunteed.

Screen resolution wouldn't be a problem if you people could just be bothered to put the correct $!@#ing image size syntax in the script.

Are you saying you'll let people use the webspace you pay for?

SS has an inhousemedia account. He can host files on his page for you.

It's a relatively stable system, and from what I read at the statistics, there has never been any downtime...
