Hi All! I've made a new Oddworld Forum!
Hi guys, I just wanted to tell you, I've made a new Oddworld Forum and I hope when it's ready, you'll all post there too! the site is http://oddworld.conforums.com and when it's ready I'll tell you all! Meanwhile, you can check it out and I hope you all post on there too! THX! Oh yes, and btw I'm the admin and my username is pure_odd and when it's ready hopefully I can make some of you guys mods too!

Well, the idea is fine, but i just don't see why we'd like to have a new one! I mean this one i fine, and sorry for saying this, but the site isn't very good. I mean it has a lot of comercials... Wich is kinda bad. And Abe Babe has put much efort in making these forums(i guess). But every one could make a forum like you did. I really don't want to offend you, but it's pointless making a new one. If you can prove me wrong, then fine by me...

No offence, but I have to agree with T nex here. If you want to dedicate your love to oddworld it might be better to start a fan site instead of a forum and maybe connect a forum to it later on when you have some steady vissitors. Just a thought though, Im trying to get my own forum of the ground.

But Havoc is right, there are many places you can host your site for free, or you could also just pay for one. It's really not that espensive. |

Your hostile reactions to peoples opinions are rather disturbing.
You have quickly hosted your forums on a free server They are unskinned I could produce better looking free forums in minutes from now. It is very unlikely that you will get members - well, not many anyway. Change the skin, it's really bad, not to mention drab and boring. Change the forum host, it's really bad. Why you flame the people who mean no offense and apologise for giving their opinions? I have been relatively blunt and truthful (though you may see it is a flame, you've seen everything else that way... :fuzemb: ) only because you non-sensically flamed Havoc and T-Nex for giving opinions. |
I know some people like to visit multiple forums, but I like where I am.

People, people, don't argue. This thread was going to recieve negative comments, as it was posted here, at this forum, in a thread promoting another forum of the same nature as this, but that doesn't mean you have to become so aggressive and defending. Don't be angry that someone doesn't like your opinion, just accept that they have their own opinion too. You ain't got a chance in the world of changing it, either.
mudokon, it's great that you want to start up your own Oddworld community. I've tried with other games I like, but they usually end up closing. I don't really have the time to juggle the management of more than one forum, especially seeing as this forum is relatively large. I wish you the best of luck though. Alcar... |

Why would It be a rip off of the OWF? There where forums about oddworld long before this one was set up (although this one was founded not to long after AO) and this one is no "rip off" as you call it.
And to Mudokon, setting up a forum is not a bad Idea in general, but do make sure you offer stuff which make ppl want to come back. Get a nice skin for it, make some interesting catogory's, be interactive with your members and make a lot of advertisement. After you done all that, Waiting is the key. While you keep making advertisement it will take a couple of months before your forum get realy active. So you dont have to get mad at us for trying to help you, most of us don't want to be a member becouse we like it here, but we will try to help you set it up. Good luck on it! |

Wow. You really need to do something about that depression. I used to be depressed as well, so I know what it's like. Let me just say that life is worth living. I know it may not seem like that now, but you'll be glad you're alive after you get this problem under control. I take Paxil CR and I'm doing great! :D You should really see someone about your depression. Please! :crying:

But why..? I feel like I have nothing to look for and I feel like my life sux big time. I dunno..What's the point in living? It's like being in hell. I mean, I don't kno y but no one likes me and I only have a handful of friends that are also depressed and have so many problems and I don't know what's soooo wrong with me. I feel so low and blue always......... I wish I could just crawl away forever and die.

hey... What's the problem exactly, what are you so depressed over??? I've been very depressed too sometimes, feel that no one loves me :( But now i feel better, things are going better. One time i've thought of suicide, but just think about it! Suicide is for stupid humans who doesn't anything, they think they can just get away from problems, they only thinmk about themselfs. They don't know how much théy hurt their family and friends if they take their own life. Every day i feel an anger that just have to get out with. But i don't have anyone to talk to :(
But there is something good in life, you can't just run away from problems. Well, good luck with yer life :) Hope you'll feel better. |
Just look at it this way, A deprassion is temorary and will go away after a while... once you take your own life, there is no turning back amigo...

I used to be depressed and hated my life cuase i am realy not confident and i just could'nt live like this. But now i have new friends and that makes it easyer and you could do some sort of sport or exersice that would help you.
mudokon, mabey you could make an oddworld site, but the hardest part is making an oddworld site thats diffrent from other ones.If your site is very very very excelentay and it will blow you away! then if your lucky enought you might turn out to be a Fan of the month. :) I don't have an website program, so i dunno how :| |
Regular depression is pretty normal in our culture these days, especially at the middle to high school age range. Unless you've got a certifiable condition called something like chronic depression the feeling of general malaise and worthlesness typically goes away after about six months. It sounds like Oddguy had a clinical condition, but probably you'll be fine as long as you don't do anything drastic. The more extreme steps you take to either feel better or worse, the lower the depression sinks.
Basically just take it easy. If your feelings persist for too long, you might want to see someone about it. If you seriously entertain thoughts of hurting yourself, you should definitely talk to someone authoratative about it. Try your parents for starters. Also, get out in the sun, man. Studies have shown people are happier when they get more light, and when they smile. Strange but true. Another Oddworld Forum is a fine idea if you've got the sand and skills to make it worthwhile. I'm sure that while many of the current members here enjoy the elevated conversation (sometimes) there are plenty of fans of a more casual nature who'd like something even more laidback. The possibilities are out there, just figure out how to get to it. And thats the extent of my pep talk. Good luck. |

That was a really good pep talk. I've also heard about the light and smiling treatment. Another good one is exercise. Working out causes your body to release endorphins, a chemical that makes you happy. A maintained workout schedual causes a regular dose of endorphins to be in your system, which will keep you at a good level...mood wise. Yes, definitely exercize.
Many people have naturally low seritonin levels, so they feel bad all the time. Drugs raise your seritonin levels, so this is a main reason of resorting to drugs. It's the only thing that can make them feel better. But aerobic exercize also releases a rush of seritonin into your body too...that's why most physically fit people aren't on drugs, because they don't need that extra seritonin boost. This is what people are referring to as the "runner's high". I run 3 miles every day and when I don't, I just feel...blah. It really helps. |

I know I'm a bit late with this its... all said and done basically (you've posted some great things here guys)
But just want to mention that if you want to chat Mudokon... just PM me... I know that I find it really difficult to talk about my feelings but writing them (typing them!) helps me to open up!... Infact... I used to keep a journal and write my thoughts and feelings in it... if the stuff I wrote was a little "dark" shall we say... I used to rip the pages out and burn them (safely!) It was great... a real feeling of release! Try writing stuff down... you don't have to show anyone... but like I said... if you need a listening ear... or rather "reading eye" I'm ya gal! :kiss: And don't worry... you're perfectly normal to feel this way... don't be ashamed of it... it'll only make it worse. What I'm saying is, that people will only go to a forum if it's A: the only one around, or B: the best one around. Doing B is nearly impossible, and is usually only possible if your forum was the first on the scene. People will not change to another forum when the one they are already on is the best of its type. Here are a few top pointers: You need originality. As much as you may want to make an Oddworld Forum, or Oddworld fansite, there is no demand for them and your efforts would be wasted. Try to think of something else you could do. Something you've tried to search for on the net and just reached a dead end. That is where your potential is. Now that you've got your idea, you can start to build up your website around it. Things like guestbooks, about me pages, and rules are the LEAST visited - omit them if you can. Instead of "links" type in "useful links" - this helps your visitors realise that they might find more of what they are looking for if they check them out. Also, when composing your website, remember that visitors have a short attention span, keep the text down to a bare minimum, and don't put more than you need anywhere. Think about what they will be looking for when they get to your site, and make it easy for them to reach it. Don't make them have to go through miles and miles of pages before they get to what they want. Keep in mind that Updates are rarely read, and are only read out of boredom - don't waste too much time on them. And flashy little graphics all over the place looks horrid - animated construction workers are a big no no. Don't create content or sections just for the sake of filling up space. Put what you need where you need it, then sculpt that into something attractive. Readers won't pour over every part of the page, they will skim it, keeping their eye out for key words. Make sure you think about this, and try to cut it down so that visitors can read what they need to know as quickly as possible. Remember, appearance is something that can be worked on later. Your layout should be purely functional, and help with accessability. At the end of the day, an ugly site that's easy to use, will end up getting more hits than a pretty site that's hard to use. Be conventional - make things blindingly obvious to visitors. Don't try to be a pioneer by putting your navigational links somewhere strange. Put them where the user can expect to find them. The same goes with content. You want the user to feel "at home" browsing the site. And that's about all you need to know. Feel free to copy and paste this into a notepad file for later reference. You can always PM me if there is any more you wish to know, although I think I've pretty much covered everything here. Hope you find it helpful. :) |
